M. P. In this unchanging for weeks winter weather I present you with a new issue of ELEKS in a slightly different form than usual. I was inspired by the TOEIC exam I am in for on 19 February (those who are in the same situation know what I mean), a test of English. I expect that you will find the information in English useful, or at least interesting. An essential element of this issue is a new, bilingual text of THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM POLICY, easy to cut out. Hoping you will have nice reading Best wishes Editor-in-chief 2 - news bulletin January-February 2010

Mind mapping How do we plan development? How do we summarize a year or a finished project? How do we prepare presentations? How do think and take notes? Below we are presenting the way of thinking known as mind mapping. In contrast to the traditional way of thinking or planning, mind maps, using words, symbols, colours and other factors make an efficient use of both hemispheres of our brain. This way our imagination and creativity as well as logical and analytical thinking are active. Let s have a look at a mind map summarizing a year of activities of a company. unsuccessful operations new contracts earnings capital expenditure 3. financial statement costs and overheads dividend cost-cutting measures expansion 2. summary of operations sales positives 1. general overview modernization 4. research & development environmental issues technologies certificates and norms negatives Review of the year expansion plans new market needs 6. future outlook 5. strategies & plans competition economic climate new markets budget human resources A. Certification of the management systems in 2010 This year we are facing several important events connected with the assessment of the management systems by competent certification bodies. March a certification audit of the occupational health and safety system documentation for conformity with OHSAS 18001:2007 and PN-N 18001:2004; April a certification audit of the occupational health and safety system for conformity with the above standards; a certification audit of the quality system acc. to PN-EN ISO 9001:2009 and the requirements of AQAP: 2006, and an audit of the environmental system surveillance acc. to PN-EN ISO 14001:2005; April or May a re-certification audit of the quality system acc. to the requirements of KTA 1401. For smooth and successful certification and re-certification of the above systems the records of the management systems must be reviewed, records in the documents which are to be presented to the auditors completed, and our behaviour verified in respect of fulfilling the requirements of the management systems or legal and other requirements imposed on us by contract provisions.
