Introduction In order to have an efficient flow of goods it is vital that the seller and the buyer have the same and correct information about the attributes of items, such as dimensions, weight, article number and shelf life. This data is sent electronically which provides an efficient flow of information. By getting item information in advance, the recipient can prepare warehouse and shelf space and update computer systems so that logistics are optimised and handling of the physical item is easier and quicker. It is essential that the information sent is correct and exactly reflects the item itself. Since the recipient prepares his systems and logistic routines in advance, considerable cost can be incurred if the item is not as described in the information sent. Remember that it is the supplier's responsibility to ensure that item information is correct. This guideline is a description of the Swedish adaption of the GS1 Trade Item Information and the Food and Beverage Extension. The guideline is intended for suppliers sending Trade Item Information to their recipients. The content will provide the knowledge and insight you need in order to supply correct Trade Item Information. Parts of the content in the document are also intended for system developers and recipients of Trade Item Information. In addition, system developers and recipients must also read the business document specification for the Trade Item Information and the Food and beverage Information. Figure 1 The figure shows an outline of the content in Trade Item Information. Figure 2 The figure shows an outline of the content in the Food and Beverage Extension. 12(95)

The benefit of Trade Item Information for retail stores In order for the store to be able to carry out shelf planning they must know in advance the dimensions of the consumer unit. It is important that supplier sends the right dimensions otherwise there is a risk that the items will not fit on the shelf. A store also needs to know how the items should be stored and handled. For example, an item which is to be kept in the freezer should not stand around at room temperature. The benefit of Trade Item Information for the consumer It is becoming increasingly common for consumers to seek information on items through their computer, smartphone or tablet. This places greater demands on correct Trade Item Information and Food and Beverage Information. According to the food legislation the consumer must also be provided with the same information about the food-stuffs, regardless of if they are bought in a physical store or in an online store. Texts for both shelf edge labels and till receipts come from Trade Item Information. Shelf edge labels help the consumer compare prices between different brands and package sizes. If this information, for example the comparative price, is wrong the consumer may choose an alternative item. The benefit of Trade Item Information when ordering, transporting and storing It is important that the Trade Item Information exactly reflects the item itself when ordering, transporting and storing. For orderable items the Trade Item Information is for example used: At time of order - When it's time to order an item the buyer needs to know how many consumer units there are in the orderable item. If the supplier has sent the wrong number in his item information, this can result in the wrong number being ordered. This can mean empty shelves or an over-order. To optimise packing roll cages - The dimensions of the item are used amongst other things to plan how the packages can be loaded onto roll cages. If the wrong dimensions are sent, there may not be any room for the item on the roll cage. For planning of transport capacity - Transport is often planned automatically by a system which is aware of the limitations on the weight of the load. If the wrong weight of an orderable item has been entered, this can result in half-empty trucks. For logistic units the Trade Item Information is for example used for: Choosing the right storage location - The dimensions of the logical unit are used to plan where the goods will be stored. If the logical unit, for example a pallet, is higher than the shelving, it will not fit and the flow of goods in the warehouse will stop. The next item in the queue may need to go into the freezer, but is ruined by not being able to get into the warehouse. The item information also contains data about the temperature zone the article can be kept in, so that the recipient knows if the goods should be kept in the freezer or at room temperature. Optimising ordering quantities - The buyer needs to know how many packages there are in the logistic unit in order to optimise quantities by ordering, for example, a full pallet load. 13(95)

Basic concepts In this section the basic concepts of Trade Item Information are explained. The basic concepts are essential for the understanding of the rest of the content in this document. GLN (Global Location Number) Companies sending or receiving item information need to uniquely identify themselves. This ensures that information is always sent to the right recipient and that the recipient is certain of where the information came from. Global Location Numbers, or GLNs, are used all over the world for the unique identification of companies. Read more about GLN at www.gs1.org/gln. GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) Global Trade Item Numbers, or GTINs, are used to uniquely identify each product. This ensures that two items cannot be confused. The GTIN is also a key to the correct item information. It is extremely important that you use the correct GTIN. Remember that a single incorrect digit can result in the information being associated with the wrong item. GTINs must always have 14 digits in item information. If your GTIN is shorter, add zeros on the left. When the supplier numbers his items with GTINs, it simplifies ordering and correlating sales statistics, since each item has a unique article number. Read more about GTIN at www.gs1.org/gtin. GTIN Rules It is essential that the information sent is correct and exactly reflects the item itself. If the item is changed the Trade Item Information should also be changed. GS1 has international rules for which changes require the item to be given a new GTIN and which are permitted without the GTIN being changed. If an item is changed so much that the consumer is affected, then the item shall not retain its GTIN, rather the supplier must give the item a new GTIN. Here are some examples of changes which require the item to be given a new GTIN: Change of brand name. Change of package dimensions. Change of volume or weight of contents. Change of composition which can be significant for the consumer. Note that these examples are the minimum requirements and that there may be more strict rules under certain conditions. Read more about GS1 s GTIN allocation rules at www.gs1.org/1/gtinrules 14(95)

Change of brand name If an item s brand name is changed, the item must be given a new GTIN. The change affects the consumer since the brand name is printed on the shelf edge label. If the item was not given a new GTIN, it is not certain that the shelf edge label would be changed for one with the new brand name. If the brand name is wrong on the label, then the consumer might not find the right item on the shelf. Figure 3 If an item s brand name is changed, the item must be given a new GTIN. Change of package dimensions The outer dimensions of an item may be changed by up to 20% without the item requiring a new GTIN. If the item s outer dimensions are changed by more than 20% without the GTIN being changed, the buyer will have the wrong dimensions in his warehouse and logistic systems. There is then a risk that there will be no room for the item during transport, on the warehouse shelf, or in the store. Change of volume or weight of contents When the volume or weight of the contents is changed, the item must be given a new GTIN. If the item does not get a new GTIN, it is not certain that the old item can be differentiated from the new. In the store this can result in an incorrect comparative price on the shelf edge label. Figure 4 If the volume or weight of the contents is changed, the item must be given a new GTIN. 15(95)

Change of the number of items contained In order to differentiate between packages containing a different number of items, different GTINs are required. This means that if the number of items contained changes, the GTIN must be changed. Figure 5 If the number of items contained changes, the item must be given a new GTIN. Example: A box contains six bottles of shampoo. If the number of bottles is changed to 8, the box must be given a new GTIN in order to distinguish the different boxes in the warehouse and at ordering time. Change of item composition If the composition of an item is changed, for example from gluten free to containing gluten, this change will affect consumers who are gluten allergic. This means that if the composition of an item are changed, that is added or removed, the item must be given a new GTIN. Figure 6 If the composition of an item is changed, for example if ingredients are added or removed, the item must be given a new GTIN. 16(95)

Trade item levels Items which the buyer needs information about are grouped into three different levels: base level case level top level Each item at the different levels is given a GTIN. Trade Item Information is sent for every GTIN, since they have different attributes, such as different dimensions. Using the item levels it is easy to describe an item hierarchy, for example which consumer units there are in a case or which cases there are on a pallet. Base level Base unit level is the lowest level of a trade item hierarchy. A trade item at base unit level contains no items identified with a GTIN (children). A base unit level item is always contained in another trade item (parent), which can be at case level or pallet level. Examples of base unit level items are a bottle of mineral water or shampoo, or a bucket for the foodservice industry. Figure 7 Examples of items on base level. A trade item hierarchy can consist of several items on base level, for example mixed pack with different items packed together or if the hierarchy describes a mixed expo unit. Case level Case level is the middle level of a trade item hierarchy. A trade item at case level contains other trade items (children) and is also itself contained in a trade item (parent). A case level item can contain items at base unit level or other case level items. Note that there might be several case level items in a hierarchy. Examples of case level items are a box with six bottles of shampoo, a six-pack of mineral water, or a box containing four six-packs of mineral water. 17(95)

Figure 8 Examples of items on case level. The case level is not always used, for example when the item at base level is large. One example is bags of charcoal placed on a pallet directly in the store. Pallet level Pallet level is at the highest level of a trade item hierarchy. A trade item at pallet level contains other items (children) but is not itself contained in another trade item. Examples of pallet level items are a pallet of boxes of bottles of shampoo or mineral water. Figure 9 Examples of items on pallet level. Summary If the hierarchy consists of only one item level, for example a washing machine, the hierarchy consists of only one item on base level. If the hierarchy consists of two item levels it consists of one item on base level and one item on top level, even if the top level is not a pallet or equivalent. If the hierarchy consists of three or more item levels it consists of one item on base level, one item top level and one or more levels on case level. 18(95)

Example 1. Trade item hierarchy Figure 10 Example of a trade item hierarchy consisting of one base level, one case level and one top level. Example 2. Trade item hierarchy Figure 11 Example of a trade item hierarchy consisting of one base level, two case levels and one top level. 19(95)

Trade item status A trade item can have a number of attributes related to how it is intended to be sold and distributed at different stages in the supply chain. Every trade item can have attributes indicating that it is a consumer unit, an orderable unit, or a despatch unit. Consumer unit A consumer unit is intended to be sold to a consumer or end user at point-of-sale. Figure 12 Examples of consumer units. Orderable unit An orderable unit is a trade item which is ordered from the supplier by a wholesaler, store, or similar. Every trade item hierarchy contains an orderable unit. In exceptional cases there can be several orderable units in the same hierarchy. Figure 13 Examples of orderable units. 20(95)

Despatch unit A despatch unit is a trade item, usually a pallet, which is physically delivered from the supplier to the customer. There is always at least one item which is a despatch unit in a hierarchy. Usually the pallet level item is the despatch unit, but if the trade item hierarchy consists of only a base level the base level is the despatch unit. Figure 14 Example of a despatch unit. Summary Note that the same trade item can have more than one of these attributes. An item which is a consumer unit can also be orderable (for physically large consumer units there may be no case level item). An orderable unit can also be a despatch unit (for example a display pallet). 21(95)

Trade item hierarchies A whole trade item hierarchy is described in the Trade Item Information. This means that every contained item at base, case and pallet level, and the relation between them, is described. For each trade item at pallet and case levels the items contained at the next lower level of the hierarchy must be specified. Trade item hierarchy, example 1 An outer case consisting of three different types of sausage: Salami (GTIN 1), 2 pieces Bratwurst (GTIN 2), 4 pieces Barbecue (GTIN 3), 3 pieces Figure 19 An outer case consists of three different types of sausages. The trade item hierarchy for the outer case is described in the groups Packaging hierarchy and Trade item hierarchy as follows: Packaging hierarchy o T4034 Quantity of children = 3 (GTIN 1 + GTIN 2 + GTIN 3) T4035 Total quantity of next lower level trade item = 9 (2 + 4 + 3) Trade item hierarchy o o o T2045 Included item or service, GTIN = GTIN1 T3361 Number of units in item = 2 T2045 Included item or service, GTIN = GTIN2 T3361 Number of units in item = 4 T2045 Included item or service, GTIN = GTIN3 T3361 Number of units in item = 3 24(95)

Trade item hierarchy, example 2 A box contains six bottles of glue (GTIN 1). For the homogenous case the hierarchy is described as follows: Packaging hierarchy o T4034 Quantity of children = 1 (GTIN 1) T4035 Total quantity of next lower level trade item = 6 Trade item hierarchy o T2045 Included item or service, GTIN= GTIN1 T3361 Number of units in item = 6 Figure 20 A box contains 6 bottles of glue. Measurement rules When you measure the dimensions of the package such as height, width, depth or weight, it is essential that you follow the measurement rules. The rules are there to ensure that everyone measures in the same way and that there are no misunderstandings. If the measurements of a consumer unit are wrong, there may not be room for the item on the shelf. If the dimensions of a logistic unit are wrong, it may not fit in its place in the warehouse. When the dimensions sent in the item information are those of the physical item then shelf planning will work and transport can be planned so that there is room for everything and optimal use is made of the trucks capacity. It is always the outer dimensions that should be measured since they are needed for shelf and transport planning. If instead the inner dimensions are used it may lead to that the recipient s shelf planning will not work or that the item does not fit in the bin. The general measurement rules for consumer trade items and non-consumer trade items are described here. 25(95)

Measurement rules for consumer trade items In this section it is described how a consumer trade item is measured. 1. Finding the front of a consumer trade item The side which has the greatest area and is also used to sell the item, that is, the side with the brand name on, is the front. Figure 21 The side which has the greatest area and is also used to sell the item, that is, the side with the brand name on, is the front If a package has more than one possible front, then the side that has the greatest height is the front. An example of this type of package is an item which can be placed both horizontally and vertically on the shelf and has at least two sides with the same area which can be used to sell the item. Figure 22 If a package has more than one possible front, then the side that has the greatest height is the front. 26(95)

2. Orientate the item to determine the height, width and depth The item is orientated so that consumer declarations, for example the package contents, can be viewed horizontally. Note that item name, brand name and logotype not always are printed horizontally or vertically on the package. When you have decided which side is the front the height, width and depth can be determined. If you look at the front of the item, then Height - from the bottom to the top Width - from left to right Depth - is from the front to the back. Figure 23 When the item is orientated so that consumer declarations can be viewed horizontally the height, width and height of the item can be determined. The height, width and depth for consumer items are defined by the side that is used to sell the item. The dimensions are defined independent of if the item is placed on a shelf, in an upright cabinet freezer or in a chest freezer. 27(95)

Figure 24 The height, width and depth for consumer items are defined by the side that is used to sell the item independent of shelf orientation. Figure 25 The lid of the butter package is defined as the default front since this is the side with the largest brand name. 28(95)

3. Measure the height, width and depth of the item After the height, width and depth have been defined the dimensions can be measured. Always measure the maximum distance, that is, include any parts that stand out such as tops, lids and complimentary products in the measurement. Figur 26 Always measure the maximum distance. Measurement rules for non-consumer trade items There are two alternatives for determining the height, width and depth of a non-consumer trade item: Alternative 1 Determine the natural base If text, arrows or other graphics printed on the item indicate a natural base and top then the natural base is used to determine the height, width and depth: Height - from base to top Width - the shortest side of the base Depth - the longest side of the base. Figure 27 If text, arrows or other graphics printed on the item indicate a natural base and top then the natural base is used to determine the height, width and depth: 29(95)

Alternative 2 - The natural base is not readily apparent When there are no case markings and the natural base and top is not readily apparent, then width and depth define the natural base and the measurement of a non-consumer trade item is as follows: Height - the shortest dimension Width - the next longest dimension Depth - is the longest dimension Figure 28 If the natural base it is not readily apparent, then width and depth define the natural base. Measure the height, width and depth When the height, width and depth have been defined the dimensions can be measured. When measuring a trade item the maximum measure should be recorded for any given dimension. It is essential to measure the package when it is standing on its own and not stacked. The package must also be in good condition and undamaged, that is to say not wet or broken. Note that items which are both consumer trade items and orderable items should be measured using the rules for consumer trade items. Display items, shrink-wrapped items and trays Display items are measured in the same way as other items which are not consumer trade items and the rules apply regardless of whether the display unit has an open or removable top. Consumer trade item can also be packed together with shrink-wrap or in a tray to be able to be transported. The same measurement rules apply to shrinked-wrapped packages and trays as other items which are not consumer trade items. 30(95)

Figure 29 Display items are measured in the same way as other items which are not consumer trade items More information Measurement rules for all package types are described in the global standard GDSN Package Measurement Rules which can be downloaded from http://gs1.se/globalassets/gdsn_package_measurement_rules.pdf. 31(95)

Trade Item Information - attributes The attributes in Trade Item Information are described in this section. The attributes are grouped in classes in a hierarchical structure. The attributes are described by an attribute number, for example T0153, an attribute name, for example Document command, a definition and sometimes additional descriptions. An example is specified for some attributes. These examples must be read independently and not in combination with other examples. Figure 30 The Trade Item Information is grouped in classes in a hierarchical structure. Trade Item Document The class is used for specifying Trade Item Information for a complete trade item hierarchy. T0153 Document command Definition Code indicating if the information is an addition, deletion or a change. Code indicating if the information is for a new item, deleted item, changed item or corrected Trade Item Information. Note that the document command applies to the whole trade item hierarchy. New: Used when one or more items in the trade item hierarchy are new and are being declared for the first time. Also used when the pallet level item is new and the case and base level items are unchanged. Deletion: May be used when the information provider removes Trade Item Information from his system in order to allow the buyer to make a corresponding deletion. Only to be used when the item is known to the buyer. Only to be used when the buyer has previously received 32(95)

information from the supplier that the trade item is to be discontinued (given in "T4015 Discontinue date"). Change: Used when one or more items in the hierarchy is changed, but no item has been corrected. The change does not require that the item is allocated a new GTIN, according to GTIN Allocation Rules. For example, when the storage temperature of the item changes. Correction: Used when the Trade Item Information of one or more items have been corrected. Correction means that previously submitted information was incorrect and is corrected, without any change in the item itself, for example correction of a spelling mistake in the item name. The code is always in relation to previously sent information on this item that is approved by Validoo Item. For example, if an attempt to register a new item is rejected by Validoo Item, the Trade Item Information should be corrected and resubmitted. In this case, the item is still a new item. ADD = New DELETE = Deletion CHANGE_BY_REFRESH = Change CORRECT = Correction Trade item header The class is used for specifying overall information about the trade item. T0151 Creation date time Definition Date and point of time when the business document was created. Specific applications for Trade Item Information This sections covers specific applications for Trade Item Information. Trade Item Information for the consumer Brand name, item name and package size The brand name, item name and package size together describe the item. They are printed on the shelf edge label and the till receipt but are also used at the time of order. Brand-name is an identifier that distinguishes your products from others Item name describes the items function and how it is to be used, for example Cornflakes or Washing powder Package size is the size printed on the package, for example 500 g or 1.5 l. Shelf edge and till receipt text The shelf edge and till receipt text describes the function of an item and how it is to be used. The shelf edge text may not contain the brand name or size since this would result in these being repeated on the label. The shelf edge and till receipt text is mandatory for items which are sold in retail stores and are barcoded. When item information has been sent correctly it should be easy for the consumer to read this information on the shelf edge label will stop in addition there will be no misunderstanding of which item the label should be associated with. Comparative price The comparative price allows the consumer to compare prices between, for example, different package sizes and brands. The comparative price is calculated using the price and comparative quantity. Here are the supplier has stated that a package of washing powder is sufficient for 20 washes. The price of the package in the store is 2.99. The comparative price is therefore 2.99/20 = 0.15 per wash. In this example the supplier has sent the wrong article information. The comparative quantity is stated as two washes which gives a comparative price of 2.99/2= 1.50 per wash, which the consumer considers to be very poor deal. Shelf-edge labels Shelf-edge labels help the consumer compare different package sizes and brands. This data comes directly from the Trade Item Information and it is therefore essential that it is correct. If, for example, the item name is wrong on the shelf-edge label, it can be difficult to find the right item on the shelf. This might mean that the consumer chooses another item. The following attributes are fetched from the Trade Item Information: T3337 Shelf-edge or till-roll text - Describes the function of an item and how it is to be used. The shelf edge text may not contain the brand name or size. Example Breakfast cereals or Washing powder. 83(95)

T0143 Brand name - Is an identifier that distinguishes your products from others T3338 Article size, text - Is the size printed on the package, for example 750 g or 1.5 l. T0147 Price comparison measurement Is used to calculate the comparative price. It is the store that determines the price which is not fetched from item information. Figure 38 The figure shows an example on how the information for a shelf-edge label is fetched from the Trade Item Information. Figure 39 The shelf-edge till-roll text is "Tvättm Sensitive", the brand name is "Superwash" and the article size is 750 g for the washing powder package. Shelf-edge/till-roll text The shelf-edge/till-roll text must not contain the brand name or size. If brand name and/or article size is stated in shelf-edge/till-roll text these attributes will be repeated 84(95)

Figure 40 The figure shows a shelf-edge label where brand name and the article size is included in the attribute shelf-edge till-roll text. This means that the attributes are repeated on the label. Comparative price Comparative price is calculated using price and T0147 Price comparison measurement value as follows: Comparative price = Price Price comparison measurement value Note that it is the store that determines the price which is not fetched from item information. Example comparative price The supplier has stated in trade item information that a package of washing powder is sufficient for 20 washes: T0147 Price comparison measurement = 20 T0311 Unit of measurement for net contents = PCE (pieces) T0145 Price comparison measurement code = PER_WASH Price = 29.90 SEK/package Comparative price = 29.90 20 = 1.50 SEK wash Item name and Shelf-edge/till-roll text for fish The Swedish and Latin names for the fish are stated in the terms Item name and Shelf-edge/till-roll text respectively. T0018 Item name Latin name, e.g. Salmo salar T3337 Shelf-edge/till-roll text Swedish name, e.g. Lax Trade Item Information for bake-off bread which will be baked in-store All items which are sold per unit must have a GTIN, even if they are unpacked and do not carry a barcode. The following recommendation applies for dough which is baked in-store and then sold to consumers: T4037 Consumer unit indicator = true (consumer units) T0137 Package type = 9J (unpacked) 85(95)

The supplier decides if it is the unbaked dough or the package that the dough pieces are packed in that is the orderable unit. Height, width and depth for the dough piece are measured as for a consumer unit. Trade Item Information for items of varying weight For items with varying dimensions such as meat, fish, cheese, fruit and vegetables where the quantity of products in a package can vary and the price varies with the quantity, trade item information is given as follows: T0186 Is trade item a variable unit: In Trade Item Information the term Variable measure item indicator is set to true to show that the item is variable measure. The indicator is a true/false indicator which is mandatory at all item levels since some items, for example cheese, can have a variable weight at base unit level but fixed weight at case level. T0154 Trade item identification, GTIN: A consumer unit with a variable weight is numbered with a variable measure number. Since a GTIN is always 14 digits in Trade Item Information, the 13 digit code should be padded with a leading zero. When a variable measure number is used in Trade Item Information, the four digits showing the price in crowns or the weight in kilograms are replaced by four zeros and the check digit recalculated. Note that it is only the consumer unit, at the base unit level of the item hierarchy, which is numbered with a variable measure number. Items at the case level and pallet level must not be numbered with a variable measure number but with a GTIN. T4017 Trade item width, T4019 Trade item height, T4018 Trade item depth, T4020 Trade item gross weight and T0082 Net content value: Measure and weigh several units to determine an average value for the item s dimensions and use these in trade item information. Trade Item Information for books and talking books Trade item information for books is reported as follows: T1124 Information provider, GLN -- GLN for the order recipient, that is the party the item is ordered from. Can be a trading partner or distributor. T0143 Brand name Author s name (last name, first name) T0018 Item name Title and publisher or imprint separated with /. T3337 Shelf-edge till-roll text Book title. May be shortened to fit. T3338 Article size, text Type of binding (hardback/paperback/carton/talking book) T4017 Trade item width, T4019 Trade item height, T4018 Trade item depth The dimensions of a book are defined by the front of the book. 86(95)

Figure 41 The dimensions of a book are defined by the front of the book. Trade item hierarchies Examples of trade item hierarchies specifically for loose items, display pallets and brewery pallets are described here. A general description of trade item hierarchies is described in the section Trade item levels. Examples of trade item hierarchies for loose items Apples sold by weight packed in a box Base level: Box of apples Case level: No case level if the boxes are on a pallet Pallet level: Pallet with a number of boxes Figure 42 The base level item is the box with apples and the top level item is the pallet. 87(95)

Baking potatoes sold individually packed in a box Base level: One unpacked baking potato Case level: Box of baking potatoes Pallet level: Pallet with a number of boxes Figure 43 The base level item is the unpacked baking potato, the case level item is the box and the pallet level item is the pallet. Example of trade item hierarchy for a display pallet A display pallet often consists of consumer units in opened outer packages. In the trade item hierarchy, the consumer unit is the base level and the display pallet is the orderable and logistic unit at pallet level. Figure 44 In the trade item hierarchy the consumer unit is the base level item and the display pallet is the orderable and the logistic unit at pallet level. 88(95)

Example: A display pallet holds 36 packages each with consumer units of cat food. Every package holds 9 consumer units. Item level Item Contained item Number of contained items Pallet Display pallet Consumer unit of cat food 324 Base Consumer unit of cat food - - Note that the opened outer packages must not be described as an item at case level since they do not have the same logistic attributes as unopened outer packages. If opened outer packages were described as if they were unopened, this might lead to problems in supplying retail stores. Example of trade item hierarchy for a brewery pallet A brewery pallet consists of a full pallet with two half pallets on it. On each half pallet there are two trays with 24 bottles in each. Four layers of trays and bottles are stacked on each other. At the top of each stack there is an empty tray which locks the upper layer of bottles. The bottles, trays and pallets have deposits which must be given in trade item information. Each item can have information on one or more deposits. Each deposit can be associated with a given quantity. Figure 45 A brewery pallet consists of a full pallet with two half pallets on it. The item hierarchy consists of three levels: 89(95)

Pallet level The pallet level is the full pallet. Dimensions and weight include the full pallet s height and weight Packaging type: pallet. Case level If a returnable full pallet with deposit is used, the deposit code for a returnable full pallet is given. The case level is the half pallets with the two stacks. For a mixed pallet, the item hierarchy has several items at case level Dimensions and weight include the half pallet s height and weight Packaging type: pallet. If a returnable half pallet the deposit is used, the deposit code play a returnable half pallet is given. Base unit level The case level item also includes the deposit for the 10 trays on each half pallet The lowest level of the item hierarchy is the base unit level, which in this case is a 1½ litre PET- bottle with beverage For a mixed pallet, the item hierarchy has several items at base unit level Deposit code for 1½ litre PET is given. This is how an item hierarchy with deposits looks for a homogeneous and mixed pallet: Example 1. Trade item hierarchy for a homogeneous pallet Item level Item Contained item Number of contained items Deposit /Quantity Pallet level Full pallet Half pallet 2 Deposit code for returnable full pallet / 1 Case level Half pallet Bottle 192 Deposit code for returnable half pallet / 1 Base level Bottle - - Deposit for PET 1½ l / 1 90(95)

For pallets which do not carry a deposit, Packaging type and Returnable package deposit code should be given. For example, for a single-use half pallet set T0137 Packaging type code to PX Pallet and T2244 Pallet type code to 10 ISO 0-pallet. Packaging material Packaging material must be populated when: The item s packaging material will be recycled and the supplier has not paid the packaging fee for recycling. Packaging material does not need to be populated when: The supplier has paid the packaging fee for recycling, or The item does not have any packaging material (e.g. a baking potato), or The item has returnable packaging (which therefore will not be recycled). Why packaging material needs to be stated In Sweden there is a statutory supplier responsibility for recycling packaging material. Since recycling is not self-financing, operations are financed through fees. The company that sells the goods to the consumer is responsible for ensuring that the fee is paid. The retailer therefore needs to know if the supplier has already paid or not. If the supplier has not paid the fee, the retailer needs to know in addition what packaging material is used in order to pay the correct fee. 92(95)
