English Updating to Windows 8.1 Before beginning Before beginning, prepare your Tesla W8 We suggest that you follow these preliminary steps to prepare your tablet before the updating: 1. Make a back-up copy of the files Although your files and applications are kept when you update Windows 8.1, it is advisable to make a back-up copy of the files by configuring the File History. We explain how to do this below: A. Configuring an external storage device for the File History If you are going to make a back-up copy for the first time, connect the storage device to the Tesla. A message will appear, asking whether you wish to configure the storage device for the File History. Click on it to activate the File History. If you have already made a back-up copy, follow these steps: 1. Connect the storage device to your Tesla W8 (external hard disk or USB memory). 2. Slide your finger quickly from the right-hand side of the screen, and then press Search. If you are using a mouse, position the pointer on the upper right-hand corner of the screen, move it downwards, then click on Search). 3. Select Configuration. 3

Updating to Windows 8.1 Before beginning English 4. Write Configuration History in the search box and then click on the lefthand side, on Save back-up copies of the files with File Histories. 5. Next, select the unit and press Activate. While you are making the back-up copy, you can continue using your Tesla W8. 2. Get the latest important and critical updatings There are some updatings that are necessary to be able to instal Windows 8.1. In most cases they will be automatically installed throughwindows Update. However, if you haven t got the automatic updatings activated, and need to search for them manually, or if you want to check when the last updatings were installed, slide your finger quickly from the right-hand side of the screen, and then press Configuration > Change configuration of PC > Windows Update. Temporarily de-activate the antivirus Your Tesla W8 comes with a default antivirus program installed (Windows Defender), but some antivirus programs can interfere with the installation, so if you have one installed, de-activate it temporarily. Don t forget to activate it again after installing Windows 8.1. 4

If you can t find the updating on the initial screen of the Shop,consult Why can t I find the updating in the Shop? 3. Press on Download. 4. While the updating is being downloaded and installed in the background, you can use your tablet to do other things. The installer will perform several checks to ensure that there is enough space on the disk, that the applications and equipment will function with Windows 8.1, and that you have all the required updatings. Make sure that the battery is charged, or connect it while the updating is being downloaded and installed. In some cases the installer may find something that requires your attention before the installation of the updating can proceed. In these cases, a message will appear, indicating what you have to do. note If the installation is interrupted for any reason, you can re-start it where you left off by returning to the Shop and downloading it again. 5

Updating to Windows 8.1 Re-start the equipment English Re-start the equipment Once the updating has been downloaded and the first stage of the installation has been completed (which can take between 15 minutes and several hours depending on the speed of the system and the connection), a message will appear, indicating that the equipment must be re-started. You will then have 15 minutes in which to finish the work, save it, and close the applications. Otherwise, the equipment will automatically re-start itself. You can also re-start it manually. Message warning of re-start warning Important: If you are going to leave the equipment unattended before it is ready to be re-started,don t forget to save your work and close the applications of the desk that you are using,thus ensuring that you don t lose anything when the equipment re-starts itself automatically. The equipment may have to re-start itself several times, depending on the configuration and on whether other updatings are required. While the updating is being carried out, the re-start process will take longer than usual (between 20 minutes and one hour, approximately). During this period you will not be able to use your tablet. 6

English Updating to Windows 8.1 Choose the configuration options 1. Accept the terms of the licence When the re-start has been completed, the terms of the licence will be displayed. Read them carefully, then click on Accept. 2. Configuration Here you will be able to personalize the configuration, but the quick configuration is recommended if one clicks on Use the quick configuration. 3. Start session If you were already using a Microsoft account to initiate sessions in Windows 8, the name of your account will appear, and you will not need to specify it. If, on the other hand, you were not using a Microsoft account, you will have to associate one or create one if you haven t got one. 4. Storage in the cloud of SkyDrive If this is the first time that you are configuring equipment with Windows 8.1, you will see the new options of SkyDrive. If you have other equipment with Windows 8.1 and activate the synchronization of configuration in that equipment,the SkyDrive options will be synchronized between the two pieces of equipment, and you will not see the next screen. 7

Updating to Windows 8.1 Choose the configuration options English SkyDrive options during configuration If you click on Next in this screen, your tablet will use SkyDrive s pre-determined configuration: The photos which you make with this equipment will be saved in the folder of local albums, and a low-resolution copy of each photo will be automatically stored in SkyDrive. When you create a new document, the pre-determined location where it will be stored will be SkyDrive. However, you can always save documents locally or in another unit. Windows will save a back-up copy of your tablet s configuration in SkyDrive. If something happens to your tablet, and you need to retrieve some information, the configuration will be saved in the cloud, and you will be able to transfer it immediately to the new equipment. Later on, you will be able to change the options for configuring the equipment. If you prefer to de-activate all these options, press or click on De-activate this configuration of SkyDrive (it is not recommended). Finally, replace your user s account with your new Microsoft account by pressing Change, to associate your files with SkyDrive. 8

Possible final updatings As Windows is continually being updated, it is possible that critical, new updatings will become available after your own updating of Windows. 8.1. Windows searches for these critical updatings as soon as the first configuration of Windows 8.1 has been completed, and if it finds one, it downloads it automatically.the process of downloading and installing these updatings can take more or less time, depending on which updatings are necessary.it may be necessary to re-initiate your tablet, once or several times, in order to complete the updating. 9

Slide your finger quickly downwards from the upper part of the screen or click with the right-hand button, and then press or click on Your applications. 3. Select all the apps that you wish to instal, then press or click on Instal. note You can also re-instal apps from the Start screen by pressing or clicking on the icons. You don t have to wait until the installation of the apps is completed. While they are being installed in the background, you can do other things. 11

Updating to Windows 8.1 Updating the BIOS English Updating the BIOS After carrying out all the previous steps, you need to gain access to the BIOS to update it, in order to have the best possible compatibility with the updating to Windows 8.1. Gain access to the BIOS with the tablet switched off. You can use either the touch-screen or a keyboard and/or mouse. 1. Press the increase volume key and, without releasing it, press the switched on key until a grey configuration screen appears (in English). 2. Click on Setup Utility 3. Click on Advanced in the upper menu. 4. Click on Chipset Configuration 5. Check the value of emmc Write Protection. If its value is Enable, press on Enable, and on the menu which appears, select Disable. If its value is Disable go directly to the next step. 6. Click on F10 (Save and Exit), which is on the right-hand side at the bottom, and press Yes in the window which appears. 7. Wait until Windows 8 starts up normally, and download the file TA131125vBQ1.00W.exe from a computer. You will then have to pass it to your Tesla W8, using an external storage device (hard disk, USB memory or SD card). You may have to do this in Administrator Mode. 8. Connect the storage device containing the file to your Tesla W8 and gain access to it from the classic Windows desk to execute it.you will need to have the Tesla W8 connected to a power supply. 9. The system will re-start itself and will proceed to instal the updating of the BIOS. 10. It is advisable to repeat steps 1 to 6, and to replace Disabled with Enabled in the emmc Write Protection field to assure ourselves that configuration values of the internal memory cannot be accidentally modified.remember to switch off the device before carrying out these steps. 12

English Updating to Windows 8.1 Updating the graphic card Updating the graphic card 1. Download the file folder Graphic.card(CLV_1170).zip from another computer. 2. Select the folder and copy it into an external storage device in order to transfer it to your Tesla W8. 3. Gain access to the external storage device from the classic desk of your Tesla W8 and execute the Setup.exe file. 4. Accept/confirm all the messages which appear during the installation. 5. Re-initiate the tablet to complete the installation. 13
