REALISTIC Stereo Three AM/FM Radio (120-1451) Features Faxback Doc. # 18906 Your REALISTIC Stereo Three is a complete solid-state 3-piece FM/AM Stereo System. Its size and styling will fit well in any room or location in your home or at the office. Each of the three pieces is finished in a walnut finished, mar proof surface. The stereo speaker cabinets house highefficiency permanent-magnet dynamic speakers and have been specially designed to match the tuner/amplifier, both in appearance and electricalacoustical performance. FEATURES Complete FM/AM Stereo System Bookshelf size Inputs for Phono and Tape Automatic Stereo Indicator Light Lighted Slide Rule Dial Stereo Headphone Jack Balance Control for Optimum Stereo Separation Built-In Antenna for both AM and FM, plus terminals for connecting an external FM antenna (for superior reception) Solid-State Circuitry with 18 Transistors and 16 Diodes (including 3 in power circuit)

REALISTIC Stereo Three AM/FM Radio (120-1451) Controls Faxback Doc. # 18905 CONTROLS: LOCATION AND FUNCTION Tuning - is used to tune the Receiver to the desired AM, or FM station, as indicated on the slide rule tuning dial. Stereo Indicator Light - lights up automatically when you are tuned to an FM station that is broadcasting a stereo signal. Selector Switch - determines the function of the receiver: AM for tuning AM stations. FM for tuning FM and FM Stereo stations. PHONO for using your Record Changer/Turntable. TAPE for using a Tape Deck. TONE Control - adjusts the tonal response of both channels. In the extreme counterclockwise position, the low or bass tones are emphasized. In the extreme clockwise position, the high or treble tones are emphasized. Adjust this control to suit your individual preference; or leave in the center position for "flat" or balanced tonal response. BALANCE Control - determines the relative volume of the left and right speakers. In the center position the volume from both speakers will be the same. Adjust this control for the most pleasing stereo sound. Optimum adjustment will depend on room acoustics, program material, listening position and personal preference. VOLUME On/Off Control - adjusts the loudness of the sound (controls both Channels) and turns power "on" or "off". Power is "off" when this control is set maximum counterclockwise.

PHONES Jack - plug in stereo headphones for private listening. When phones are plugged in, the speakers are automatically disconnected. We suggest Radio Shack Catalog Number 33-1038 or 33-195; your Radio Shack store has a complete selection of Stereo Headphones. On the Rear of the Receiver SPEAKER R and L Jacks - connect speaker cables between these jacks and the Speakers; connect R jack to the speaker positioned at the right of your listening position and L jack to the left speaker. PHONO R and L Jacks - are to be used when connecting a Record Changer/ Turntable to your Stereo Three system. The Record Changer/Turntable must have a ceramic cartridge to function with this system. Connect the Right output cable to the R jack and Left output to the L. jack. TAPE R and L Jacks - are to be used when connecting a Tape Deck to your Stereo Three system. Connect the Right output cable to the R jack and Left output to the L jack. Use a Cassette, 8-track Cartridge or Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck with these jacks. Your local Radio Shack store has a complete line of Tape Decks for use with your system. FM Antenna screw - are for connecting either the line cord antenna terminals (as supplied from the factory) or for connecting an external antenna for superior FM reception (use an "FM antenna" or a signal "splitter" in conjunction with your TV antenna). Check your Radio Shack store for antennas and antenna ideas. CONNECTING EQUIPMENT Line Cord - connect the line cord to a source of 120 volts, 60 Hz AC power (standard AC power outlet). SPEAKERS - connect speaker cables between the jack on the back of the speaker cabinets and the jack on the back of the Receiver (L for the Left speaker and R for the Right speaker).

FM Antenna - in most metropolitan areas, the line cord antenna will provide adequate reception. For superior reception, especially of Stereo signals, disconnect the line cord antenna and connect 300 ohm twin lead to these FM screw terminals from an FM dipole or other FM antenna. Or, you can obtain a "signal splitter" and use your present TV antenna. Check with your local Radio Shack store for help. Record Changer/Turntable - If you have a Record Changer/Turntable which has a ceramic cartridge, you can play records though your system. Connect the cables from your Record Changer/Turntable to the PHONO jacks and plug the line cord from the changer into a source of AC power. Tape Deck - If you have a Tape Deck (Cassette, Cartridge or Reel-to-Reel) with an output of approximately 1/2-volt, connect it to the TAPE jacks on the back of your Receiver. Plug the line cord of the Tape Deck into a source of AC power. Plug the line cord of your Stereo Three into a source of 120 volts, 60 Hz AC power. NOTE: Never operate your system without the speakers being connected. Felt pads are provided to prevent marring of furniture and mounting surfaces. Remove paper backing and press into position on the bottom of the cabinets.

REALISTIC Stereo Three AM/FM Radio (120-1451) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18907 Be sure all equipment is connected as described previously and as shown in the illustration. Do not operate the Stereo Three without speakers properly connected. Extend the AC line cord to its full length (to assure maximum benefit from the FM Line Cord Antenna) and plug it into a source of 120 volts, 60 Hz AC power. AM Reception 1. Set the Selector switch to AM. 2. Turn VOLUME in a clockwise direction to turn power "on". 3. Adjust Tuning control to the station you want to listen to, as indicated on the slide rule tuning dial. 4. Adjust VOLUME, TONE and BALANCE for best sound. FM Reception 1. Set the Select or switch to FM. 2. Turn VOLUME in a clockwise direction to turn power "on". 3. Adjust Tuning to the desired station as indicated on the slide rule tuning dial. The built-in AFC circuit (automatic frequency control) will automatically lock-in the station for drift free reception. The Stereo Indicator Light will automatically light up when you are tuned to a station which is broadcasting a stereo signal. 4. Adjust VOLUME, TONE and BALANCE for the best sound. PHONO Operation 1. If you have cables connected from a Record Changer/Turntable to the PHONO jacks on the rear of the unit, set the Selector switch to PHONO. 2. Turn power "on" using the VOLUME control.

3. Place a disc on your Record Changer/Turntable and activate it. 4. Adjust VOLUME, TONE and BALANCE for best sound. NOTE: Only a Record Changer/Turntable with a ceramic cartridge will function with this system. TAPE Operation 1. If you have cables connected from a Tape Deck with an output of approximately 1/2-volt to the TAPE jacks on the rear of the unit, set the Selector switch to TAPE. 2. Turn power "On" using the VOLUME control. 3. Place a tape in your Tape Deck and activate it. 4. Adjust VOLUME, TONE and BALANCE for best sound. Stereo Headphone Operation For private listening and for a unique stereo listening experience, plug stereo headphones into the PHONES jack. This automatically disconnects the speakers and sound is heard only from the headphones.
