ETP hub-shaft connections The ETP hub-shaft connections are today regarded as the natural range to choose for professional machine design. They represent the optimal cost/performance ratio and are available in a number of variants. They operate according to either the hydraulic or hydromechanical principle, which gives unique advantages when designing, in operation and when dismantling. This flyer shows a overview of the ETP hub-shaft connections. For more detailed technical information see separate product brochures. The hydraulic ETP principle ETP-EXPRESS and ETP-TECHNO are all mounted very quickly and simply by tightening of only one screw. ETP-TECHNO is used when frequent mounting is important and for extremely good concentricity. All products consist of a double-walled hardened steel sleeve, filled with a pressure medium. In the flange there are one screw and a piston with seals for the pressure setting. All work according to the hydraulic principle: when tightening the screw an even and moderately high surface pressure is created against shaft and hub. Mounting and dismantling are done in less than 1 ETP-EXPRESS seconds. The hydraulic principle gives advantages important for today s modern machines. With increased requirements for compact designs, better concentricity/balance at increased machine speeds, shorter downtime for service and increased precision, the ETP products are chosen for more and more designs. Easy and accurate to position Saves space along the shaft Quick mounting Compact built-in dimensions Good runout Quick dismantling The hydromechanical ETP principle ETP-HYLOC, ETP-IMPRESS and ETP-HYCON are all mounted quickly and easily, even using big shafts, using a hydraulic pump. The hydraulics makes the mounting simple and give a good runout. Once the connection is mounted it is mechanically locked. The hydromechanical ETP principle is specially suitable for high torque, high radial forces and for big shafts. ETP-HYLOC Connection axial or radial Quick mounting and dismantling Good runout High torque, radialand axial forces
Mechanical vs hydraulic clamping PSV 21 is one of the most common mechanical types. This is a comparison between that and ETP most common types, ETP-CLASSIC and ETP-EXPRESS: PSV 21 ETP-CLASSIC ETP-EXPRESS 1 14 M6 18 Nm 65 6 M5 8 Nm 53 75 1 M16 21 Nm 68 48 Ø 4 mm. 94 Nm 94 Nm 1 1 Nm PSV 21 has more and bigger screws with high tightening torque. The most part of the tightening torque is used to overcome the internal friction between the conical sleeves and does not create any transmittable torque. The tightening torque for the ETP-Products is automatically transformed into an increase in internal pressure and surface pressure against hub and shaft surface for transmitting of torque. The design with mechanical sleeves causes uneven surface pressure to shaft/hub with high stress concentrations. ETP-Products are self-centering because of the hydraulic pressure which is uniform along/around the contact surfaces. This gives good centering, low unbalance and less vibration. The high surface pressure which is necessary, in combination with the short contact length, in order to transmit the torque, means that the hub has to be big to withstand the pressure for mechanical types. For ETP-Products a thin hub can be used because of the even and moderate surface pressure. The tightening of the screws for mechanical types often damages the screws and also the sleeves. This means that it is not suitable for repeated mounting/dismantling. ETP-CLASSIC/ETP-EXPRESS can be repeatedly mounted/dismantled with the same good result every time. The company ETP Transmission AB have developed and manufactured hydraulic hub-shaft connections for more then 3 years, which are sold under the trademark ETP. The company has built up a unique world-wide knowledge within the hydraulic fastening and centering field. Continuous development with customers has resulted in a steady flow of new products. The company has built up a leading position within three different business areas: general machine building (described in this brochure), industrial woodworking and metal machining. Since 1995 the company has been certified according to ISO 91 2. Authorized representatives with stock and high levels of technical service are present in each country in Western Europe, North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South-Africa, India and Southeast Asia. The differences are even more obvious when comparing the designs in stainless versions: PSV 21-R ETP-CLASSIC R ETP-EXPRESS R 15 M6 8 Nm 9 M5 4,5 Nm 1 M16 21 Nm Ø 4 mm. 41 Nm 75 Nm 1 1 Nm The high friction coefficient for stainless to stainless surfaces, means even higher internal friction losses for a mechanical type. Also a lower tightening torque for stainless screws leads to a more than 5% decrease in torque transmission capacity. ETP-CLASSIC R compensates lower tightening torque for the screws with the addition of 1-3 screws in the flange. Due to space reasons mechanical types do not have the same possibilities. ETP-EXPRESS R with its internal pressure system, one screw which activates a piston, the same pressure is built up in the sleeve, thus the same level of transmittable torque is achieved. Conclusion: Why tighten up to 15 screws when fewer, or even just one screw, gives higher torque transmission!
