2013-14 E License Course Pre-Course Requirements Required by US Soccer before a coach can attend an E course There are five assignments that must be completed and sent to the FYSA-Coaching Department before a coach is eligible to attend an E License Coaching Course. These are required by US Soccer. Completed assignments may be sent by any of three methods. They are: Email (Preferred) addressed to Ecourse@fysa.com or rchisolm@fysa.com FAX 863 268-8221 Mail FYSA-Coaching Department, 2828 Lake Myrtle Park Road, Auburndale, FL 33823 When sending your assignments to FYSA, please be certain to list your name as it is registered with FYSA and include your date of birth. All applications to attend an E course will be mailed to the same address above in advance of a course. There will no longer be any walk-on registrations for the E course. It is estimated that these assignments may take four to eight hours to complete. ASSIGNMENT #1: PERSONAL COACHING PHILOSOPHY Follow the instructions below to prepare a written document covering your coaching philosophy. Please email a copy to rchisolm@fysa.com. Read and Review the TEAM MANAGEMENT SECTION of the E License Guidebook (to download, click here). Read and Review any or all of the REFERENCES & RESOURCES that are listed in order to complete this assignment. Prepare a 1-2 Page PERSONAL COACHING PHILOSOPHY, intended to serve as a tool for your initial 9-12 year old Team Parent-Player Meeting. Please include: * Player Development Goals * Coaching core values * Player Expectations * Parent Expectations 1
ASSIGNMENT #2 (A) LAWS TEST Please click here for the U.S. Soccer E License Laws test: SIGN IN TO THE GUESTBOOK AS E CANDIDATE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING LAWS MODULES; #4 EQUIPMENT #13 FREE KICKS #8 START/RESTART #14 PENALTY KICKS #9 BALL IN/OUT #15 THROW IN #10 SCORING #16 GOAL KICKS #11 OFFSIDE #17 CORNER KICKS #12 FOULS When you have completed the laws test, save a copy of the certificate to file, and email it in to us. 2
ASSIGNMENT #2 (B)- MODIFIED SMALL-SIDED GAMES RULES Contact your local League or soccer organization to locate the modified rules of play for the Team that you coach. Read and Review the modifications for the following FIFA Rules #1 FIELD, #2 BALL, #3 # PLAYERS, #5 REFEREE, #6 ASST. REFEREE, and #7 DURATION OF GAME. Prepare a list of each of these rules. For each rule write a brief description of the rule as it applies to the team and age division that you coach. Assignment #3- CONCUSSION TRAINING Please follow this link to the CDC Website: http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/headsup/training/headsupconcussion.html COMPLETE THE ON-LINE MODULE, ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS THAT APPEAR THROUGHOUT THE MINI-COURSE After you complete the Heads Up program, print a completion certificate and send it to ecourse@fysa.com or rchisolm@fysa.com. Assignment #4- RISK MANAGEMENT Prepare written answers to the following questions: 1) What are the major factors for a coach to address regarding the safety of the training session and game day settings? 2) Given the expansive communications platform available to coaches, what should you avoid in the use of email, websites, text messaging, social media, etc.? 3) What are the key responsibilities of a coach regarding the administration of the team? You will be asked to make a presentation on at least one of these three topics during the first lecture session. 3
