You are heading towards the A7 motorway (sometimes called the AP7 and AP70). The motorway is a couple of kilometers along a a feeder road that links the airport and the motorway. Just head straight on away from the airport for a kilometer or so. Look for the sign showing the E15 - A70 signed towards Alicante, Benidorm, Valencia and take this slip-road off to your right(pictured). DO NOT TAKE THE STRAIGHT ON OPTION TOWARDS MURCIA!!!! Once on the A7o / AP70 / A7 (it is all the same road) You are now going to stay on this motorway for 77 kilometers and exit at Junction 63. Ignore roadsigns as you approach and pass Alicante saying Valencia (to your right) and Madrid. Do not be tempted to turn-off to the right anywhere here. Stay focussed on going straight ahead.! 1
some commentary during the 77 Kilometer drive to keep you on the right track: Keep heading straight on in the direction of Valencia. Ignore anything else, do not come off or stray off the AP7/ AP70/ A70, do not be tempted into Alicante, ignore signs for Madrid. If in doubt, stay in the left hand fast lane if you seem confused, particularly when passing through Alicante on the motorway as there are many cut-offs and confusing signs etc. If you concentrate on going straight ahead, you will be fine. at 17.5 kilometers after leaving the airport: You are still on the motorway heading in the direction of Valencia. At approx. 17.5 km, you will enter a long tunnel that is 2 km long. This is an 80km per hour speed limit and there is allegedly speed cameras in the tunnel. After the tunnel the sign says AP7 Valencia. You are now past the confusing Alicante area. At 23km after leaving the airport: You approach a toll booth. Just take a ticket from the machine - you pay on exit at Junction 63. The price varies summer to winter. Summer it is around 9 Euros and winter 6 Euros. Keep going now and relax. You will pass signs for Villajoysa after you have travelled 40km. You will also pass Benidorm (it is on your right after you have travelled 46km). You will pass the sign for Altea / Calpe after 60 kilometers (this is Junction 64 - so keep going - you come off at the next junction). Junction 63 is next but it is 17 kilometers past junction 64. Exit at Junction 63: (you should have now travelled 77 km since leaving the airport): Signed Benissa, Teulada, Gata: Beware when you exit the motorway. Traffic merges from your left on the slip road. You now approach the toll booth. If paying by cash choose the Manual booth and give the guy your ticket and pay the toll. You can pay by card if you drive into a booth that is not manned.once you clear the toll, go straight ahead (see picture on the left), signed towards Teulada / Gata.! 2
Beware: After the toll, the road is a seriously sweeping right hand bend. You merge onto the main road, the N332. It is also signed Valencia (if you have taken the wrong turn off from the toll booth and end up towards Benissa or end up in Benissa after coming off the toll from the motorway, turn around on the first roundabout. For info, the N332 is the old Alicante to Valencia road before the motorway was built. After 4 km (from the motorway toll) now 81.5km from leaving the airport: You approach a roundabout on the N332. Turn RIGHT off this roundabout signed towards Teulada, Moraira, Benitachell. There is a petrol station and large warehouse type shops on your right and you will almost immediately approach another roundabout. Go straight on under the railway bridge. At the next roundabout bear left immediately onto another roundabout and head right into the town of Teulada. You are now heading up-hill with buildings and shops on both sides of a wide avenue that is a dual-carriageway. Continue straight-on for 1 kilometer to the top of the hill. at 83KM from the airport: at the top of the dual carriageway having gone the 1km through Teulada, bear right, signed towards Moraira. This is a 2 way road with lost of bends and if it is dark, take it easy as it is a fairly rural road. You will pass a boat dealer (he has a yard on both sides of the road). You will pass the Kart track on your left and you will come to a new mini-roundabout with a shopping centre under construction on your left. Go straight across this roundabout (2nd exit).! 3
at 87 km after the airport: 4 km from Teulada, you approach another roundabout. Enter the roundabout and head LEFT, away from Moraira and signed towards Benitachell. You may see Benitachell spelled with the odd letter x in the word. This is Valenciana dialect and it is not a separate town. after 88 km from the airport After 1 km you will approach another (new) roundabout. Turn right at this roundabout at the supermarkets (Aldi on the right and Mercadona on the left). Immediately after turning right at this roundabout, turn left at the next roundabout (this takes you behind Mercadona) and then turn right (if you look left you will see Rusty s bar). Head right, up the steep hill. The only signs are for Urbanisations. Beware of speed humps going up the hill. Small cars struggle up here as it is very steep. at 89 km from the airport and 1km up the hill, take the left turn signed Cumbre del Sol at 90km from airport keep going up the hill for another 1km. The views off to your right in daylight are spectacular. You are now entering the residential area of Cumbre del Sol. 90.5km from airport once you pass the sign for Cumbre del Sol (see photo), you pass an information centre on your left and you approach a roundabout. Turn RIGHT at this roundabout (signed towards Lirios shopping centre)! 4
91.5km from airport after heading right off the roundabout (it has ornamental boats sails on it), go downhill for 1 kilometer. You will see a small sign for Lirios shopping centre on your left. Ignore this but immediately after you see this sign and before you reach the shopping centre, turn right into a small road (see picture on left). On the wall, it says Zona Olivos. As soon as you turn right, bear right and go straight on (do not turn sharp right at this junction). You are going ahead at the one-o clock position here. You will pass a sign for Pueblo Montecala (almost there!). 91.7km from the airport You will approach an unmarked cross-roads. Go straight ahead, but look left and right for traffic who may ignore this is an unmarked junction. Continue straight on, past villas on your left and right. The road goes downhill and bends left (you will see an outbuilding with a couple of large satellite dishes. Once past this, bear left. Pass the bins on your left. You will approach some yellow apartments on your left. Immediately in front of you is a wall and the swimming pools of Pueblo Montecala are in front of you. You have arrived at the bar and pool zone. For Calle Goya, turn left past the bar and then first right. For Palmeras, turn left past the bar and then left. For Calle Valezquez, Murillo and Zurbaran, turn right and you will find these off to your left.! 5
