Digital Barcode Components Congratulations in selecting Digital Gateway Barcode for use with your e-automate system. The purpose of this document is to assist you in getting Digital Barcode installed on your server and your PDA scanning device. This version of Digital Barcode works with version 8.0.0. If you are on a previous version of Digital Barcode, be sure to uninstall all components of Digital Barcode. You should also remove the previous Remote Application Portal (RAP) website versions, running on your IIS server. Before beginning this process, make sure you have met the minimum system requirements for hardware and software associated with Digital Barcode. To view a copy of the system requirements and the suggested hardware types for use with Digital Barcode see the section Digital Barcode hardware and software requirements. Successful use of Digital Barcode is dependent on your robust hardware and meeting the minimum system requirements. The Digital Barcode system works in conjunction with multiple components of your already installed e-automate system. Below is a diagram illustrating the Digital Barcode basic components and their relationship to one another. In order for this configuration to work, specific software programs must be installed on the e- automate server, the client workstation and on the PDA scanning devices. Downloading Digital Barcode Software Digital Gateway distributes all software through website download. Customers on current maintenance agreements can access the Digital Gateway website and the Product Releases section to download software as needed. Digital Gateway does not create or distribute CD/DVD for their software. Remote Application Portal (RAP) Digital Barcode uses special connection software that allows Digital Barcode to connect to your e- automate database. The software is called the Remote Application Portal (RAP). Digital Gateway recommends installing this software on your webserver that may already be running e-info or the Public API (PIP). IMPORTANT If you are running either Red Cheetah or MWAi, please notify Digital Gateway Customer Care. Customercare@digitalgateway.com or 866-347-8776 The installation process for the Remote Application Portal asks you to identify an e-automate database. Once you identify an e-automate database, the installer runs a script on the database to allow e-automate to interact with Digital Barcode. If you intend to allow Digital Barcode to interact with other e-automate databases, you will need to run that same script on those databases. This is important if you want to use Digital Barcode in conjunction with a sample or training database. Because the installer ran the script on your identified e-automate database, you do not have to run the script again, just on any additional databases to which you want Digital Barcode to interact. For instructions on how to run this script, see Running the Digital Barcode Script. Once the script has successfully run on your other e-automate databases you may need to request a new license to allow access to Digital Barcode features. You can get your license key from Digital Gateway s Customer care team. For instructions on how to acquire and install a new license key, see Getting a Digital Barcode License Key. You do not need a new license key to print barcode labels so you can begin your preparation prior to obtaining a new license key. Digital Barcode works in conjunction with e-automate to help you accurately record and track inventory. Digital Barcode has the following capabilities: Digital Barcode allows you to download physical inventory count sheets to your PDA scanner for scanning of physical inventory quantities. Digital Barcode allows the upload of scanned quantities from the PDA back to the e-automate database for reconciliation and posting to the general ledger. Digital Barcode allows you to scan purchase order items for purchase order receipts. Digital Barcode allows you scan sales orders to prepare items for shipping. Digital Barcode allows you to collect items for inventory transfer and place them in the destination warehouses and bins. PDA Your PDA with scanning capability is an integral part of your barcode system. Your PDA allows you to be disconnected while scanning/counting your inventory. To begin the process of counting with your PDA scanners you first login to e-automate and create count sheets for each PDA. Once you Last Updated: 11/12/2012 Digital Gateway, Inc. All rights reserved Page 4

have a count sheet for each PDA you connect the PDA to e-automate and download the count sheets to your PDA. With the count sheets on the PDA you can begin scanning/counting your inventory. Once you have completed scanning your inventory you then upload your scanned counts back to your e-automate system so they can be reconciled and posted to the general ledger making corrections to your inventory quantities and your inventory value. You can also use your PDA to scan items on purchase order receipts as soon as they are received and then go in to e-automate and determine for which new items you would like to print barcode labels. To print the barcode labels you must create a print list in e-automate from your purchase order receipts. The print list is not limited to only print items from purchase order receipts. You can also add additional items to the print list that are outside of your purchase order receipts by using an advanced add function. From your PDA you can also scan items on Sales Orders to get them ready to ship from the warehouse. From Digital Barcode you can view information about the sales to verify it is the sales order for which you would like to scan items. You can see details such as the Customer, Item number, Quantity of item, the item s current Warehouse and Bin and the item s serial number. Digital Barcode also lets you view recent scans you have performed on the sales and zero out or clear those scans if they were made in error. You must have a live WI-FI connection in order to scan Purchase Order receipts with your PDA device. You can scan inventory transfer orders and perform the inventory transfer from Digital Barcode. You can pick up and put away the inventory items from Digital Barcode as well as post the transfer you have completed using your PDA. From the Pick Up screen you can perform the entire transfer. You can both pick up the items on the transfer order from their source location and put away those items to their destination location. From the Put Away screen you can only put away items from the selected transfer order to their destination location if the items have already been picked. Once you have scanned all items on the transfer order, you must post the transfer to e-automate. You must have a live WI-FI connection in order to perform inventory transfers. Installing Internet Information Services (IIS) If this is a new installation, you must first install IIS with IIS 6 management compatibility. If you are upgrading, you must first uninstall RAP, then install the downloaded RAP. If the server you have selected is not running Internet Information services (IIS) you must install it for your Digital Barcode product to function and communicate with e-automate through the Remote Application Portal. Below are basic instructions on how to install Internet Information Services, if you need more specific direction, contact a qualified network professional. How to Install IIS 1 From the Start menu, select the Control Panel. 2 From within the Control Panel, double-click on [Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features (Windows 7)]. 3 In the Add or Remove Programs window, click [Add/Remove Windows Components or Windows features on or off in Programs and Features (Windows 7)].
