Principal Features of Exercises Novice: HEEL ON LEASH AND FIGURE EIGHT: The ability of the dog and handler to work as a team. STAND FOR EAMINATION: The dog stands in position before and during the examination without displaying resentment. HEEL FREE: Refer to Heel On Leash And Figure Eight. RECALL: The dog stay where left until called by the handler, and that the dog responds promptly to the handler s command or signal to come. GROUP EERCISES: The dog remain in the sitting or down position, whichever is required by the particular exercise. Open: HEEL AND FREE AND FIGURE EIGHT: Refer to Novice Heel On Leash And Figure Eight. DROP ON RECALL: The principal features of this exercise, in addition to those listed under the Novice Recall, are the dog s prompt response to command or signal to drop, and the dog remaining in the down position until again called or signaled to come. RETRIEVE ON FLAT: The dog retrieve promptly. RETRIEVE OVER HIGH JUMP: The dog go out over the jump, picks up the dumbbell and promptly returns with it over the jump. BROAD JUMP: The dog stay where left until directed to jump and that the dog clear the jump on a single command or signal and that the dog return to its handler after it has jumped. GROUP EERCISES: Refer to Novice Group Exercises. Utility: SIGNAL EERCISES: The ability of dog and handler to work as a team while heeling, and the dog s correct responses to the signals to Stand, Stay, Drop, Sit and Come. SCENT DISCRIMINATION: The selection of the handler s article from among the other articles by scent alone, and the prompt delivery of the right article to the handler. DIRECTED RETRIEVE: The dog stay until directed to retrieve, that it go directly to the designated glove, and retrieves it promptly. MOVING STAND AND EAMINATION: The dog heel, stand and stay as the handler moves away, accept the examination without shyness or resentment, and return to the handler on command.
