Market needs (1/2) 1 In a world that keeps changing, innovation is a key factor for competitiveness, growth, and long-term sustainability. By innovation we mean the creation and successful launch of new businesses, new products or new services. The current scenario requires innovations driven both by design and technology. Design in particular is a major factor of differentiation, since markets are increasingly complex and sophisticated, and customers are looking for products that are emotionally engaging, have a proper interface, and are aesthetically and culturally advanced. Both established firms and start-ups nowadays therefore search for leaders who are capable of thinking innovatively, who have an entrepreneurial orientation, who understand design and the emotional side of products, who are capable of implementing innovation in a systemic and integrated way. New businesses especially need a breed of managers that are oriented to innovation and growth rather than to the management of existing resources. The creative industries (from design to fashion, from games to entertainment, from applications to communication) are rapidly growing, and are in dramatic need for managers and entrepreneurs who understand the dynamics of creative teams and who know how to transform creativity into business.

The educational project key goals and competences developed (1) The DemIE stream provides students with the attitude, skills, analytical tools, and real-word experiences to become leaders who think and act innovatively. Students will develop the entrepreneurial capabilities to: Search for new opportunities and find creative solutions to unmet challenges Engage others (internal teams and external partners) into innovation and entrepreneurial initiatives Operate in creative contexts, understand design and transform design and creativity into business Master the new product and service innovation processes from opportunity scanning, to vision and idea generation, to development and commercial exploitation, to the entire product life cycle. The stream takes students beyond the classroom, challenging them to test themselves in real-world settings through the lab and its courses. 2

The educational project key goals and competences developed (2) A stream that integrates different perspectives: Design Management, Innovation Management, Entrepreneurships, Product Development and Engineering. With the possibility to further deepen competences in three areas: Design and Innovation management: focus on the strategic and creative phases of innovation, and on creative industries Entrepreneurship: focus on new businesses and start-ups Product Development: focus on the implementation of innovation and on product life-cycle management 3
