Klever Mobility press release August 16 th, 2013 KYMCO subsidiary presents a full range of e-bikes KLEVER MOBILITY DEMONSTRATES A NEW SERIES OF MODELS AND ITS RED DOT AWARD WINNER IN S-PEDELEC FORM KYMCO subsidiary and industry newcomer Klever Mobility wins the internationally acclaimed red dot design award with its first e-bike The award-winning S25 model and the new full-suspension low-crossbar B25 model will be available in pedelec and S-Pedelec versions complete with the company s own in-house BIATRONIC drive New sales concept guarantees year-round availability, as well as securing the active involvement of dealerships The new models are due to be exhibited at the Eurobike international bicycle trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany (28-31 August 2013; A6-205 / FGO-299) With the internationally acclaimed red dot design award in its pocket, industry newcomer Klever Mobility already made a name for itself this spring with the launch of its first e-bike model. At the Eurobike international bicycle trade show, this subsidiary of KYMCO (the world famous motor scooter and moped specialist), whose own speciality is pedelecs, will now for the first time be exhibiting a full range of innovative electric bicycles under the very apt brand name of Klever. So, for instance, the sporty S25 model which was the recipient of the international product design award, and which is intended primarily for commuters, is now available as a speedy S-Pedelec in the form of the S45 model. New to the range is a full-suspension, lowcrossbar bike, which, like the S25, features a one size fits all frame and a pronounced modern appearance. It will be available as both a normal and S-Pedelec in the form of the B25 and B45 model, respectively. A new sales concept provides for year-round availability and direct contact between manufacturer and customer, at the same time as involving dealerships as active partners. It is the in-house drives, the unusual solutions with regard to details and above all the innovative design which make the Klever pedelecs stand out from the crowd of electric bicycles. Klever Mobility consciously sets itself apart from other manufacturers by its design. This is because we don t view these vehicles as bikes with pedal-assist, but as a quite separate category of their own, says General Manager of Klever Mobility Europe, Fritz G. Baumgartner, to emphasise this point.
So, for instance, the battery of the new Klever pedelecs is not hidden away, but exploited as a central design element acting as a feature in itself. It is not just here in Germany that modern green mobility is increasingly becoming a lifestyle choice. That s why we feel no compunction at all in showing off the energy storage unit as a new electronic device, says Baumgarten, seeking to explain the sea change which, in the view of his firm, is currently underway. Klever has accordingly also gone for highquality materials in the design of its battery, such as an all-round frame in brushed aluminium, featuring an integrated handle and, in the case of the S25 design award winner, enclosed by a frame structure of zigzag shape. Further striking design features of the Klever bikes are the one size fits all frame s square tubes, finished in highquality graphite, as well as the sports car-like red paint finish on the hydraulic disc brake callipers. Together with their attendant neon green brake lines, they add a sporty modern touch. The very latest technology and a new sales concept Along with the innovative design and what is for bicycles a rather unusual look, the Klever pedelecs do not fall short on technology either. Klever Mobility makes full use, for instance, of its parent company s know how, going for a drive developed in-house which is called the BIACTRON. This combines a high-performance rear motor with modern control electronics and other innovations, such as electronic anti-theft protection and bike coding, to form an innovative overall system. Though proven in other sectors, the sales concept too is new for the bicycle industry. Klever Mobility guarantees year-round availability and only sells directly to the end customer. In this system, dealers are paid a retainer for acting as intermediaries and providing certain services. This means that the customer can fully rely on the efficient track record of Klever Mobility as a part of the KYMCO Group via selected support point dealers and service partners. Developed in-house: the BIACTRON system The heart of any Klever pedelec is the drive system of in-house design, known as the BIATRONIC. It has rather more up its sleeve than simply ensuring gentle but powerful pedal-assist when riding. The high-performance rear wheel motor incorporating energy recovery generates an impressive 45 Nm of torque. At the same time, a controller continuously measures the torque delivered as well as the pedalling cadence, thereby providing a steady optimum pedal-assist. On the ordinary pedelec versions a 350 watt motor is used, though this is restricted to the 250 watts required by EU law. The speedy S-Pedelecs feature a 700 watt motor restricted to 500 watts. Whereas other e-bike motors working under full load reduce their output on uphill stretches (to prevent overheating), riders of Klever e-bikes, which are designed for a maximum payload of 120 kg, enjoy generous reserve capacity in terms of power.
It is also practical the Klever BIACTRON system can be switched on and off both manually and automatically. It is activated by pedalling or manually by the push of a button, once the system has performed its own system check, which is completed in just a matter of one or two seconds. Via the detachable LED control unit, which also acts as anti-theft protection, a total of four pedal-assist modes ranging from Ultralow to High can be set. The lowest level is designed to be extremely economic on energy, producing just enough pedal-assist to eliminate the rolling resistance otherwise typical of rear motors due to their design. The net result is that the pedelec runs as easily as your typical ordinary bike. Additional power can be provided by a Walk/Boost button. When held down, without pedal-assist it activates a start-up or push aid (walk function up to 4 km/h). When the pedals are in use, it provides additional power (boost function) irrespective of the pre-set pedalassist level, e.g. on sudden inclines. The LED display, which features automatic brightness adjustment in line with the immediate surroundings, contains all key information clearly laid out, such as charge state, speed, kilometres travelled that day and remaining range. Electronic anti-theft protection and bike coding With its electronic motor immobiliser complete with alarm function (patent pending), Klever makes life difficult for opportunist thieves. If the user presses the Lock button on the control unit and then removes the unit, the motor immobilises the rear wheel. Should someone still try to push the bike, it would need an immense effort for them to manage it. At the same time an alarm would sound. In addition, the wheels have a solid frame lock which takes the same key as the battery lock. Also effective against theft is Klever Mobility s bike coding. Every pedelec, every lock and every control unit has an electronic serial number which is registered under its owner. This means that, in the event of theft, the pedelec cannot simply be ridden with a different control unit; and the legal owner will be identified on the next dealer visit, if not earlier. The battery also sets new standards in design The compact batteries of the Klever models have a fantastic look and feel about them, making a welcome change from other e-bikes and setting new standards in design. The elegant black cubes with rounded corners and an all-round strip in brushed aluminium, with integrated handle and embossed logo, have the look and feel of a high-quality modern electronic device and are easy to carry and store. The design also inconspicuously incorporates cable entries, connections, LED indicator and the charging socket, which can be used to charge the battery even when it is fitted to the bike. The overall result is that the energy storage unit becomes the central design element of the electric bicycle, and even in the house or on your desk it will cut a pretty impressive figure.
The 44 V lithium ion battery is configured for 360 Wh for the ordinary pedelec version. The speedy S-Pedelecs come equipped as standard with a considerably more powerful battery delivering 480 Wh, which is 8 mm wider. This is also compatible with the ordinary pedelecs and will further increase their maximum range of up to 75 kilometres with medium pedal-assist (up to 100 kilometres at the lowest setting), if required. Presentation at the Eurobike bicycle trade show All the new models are due to be exhibited for the first time at the Eurobike international bicycle trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany (28-31 August 2013; A6-205 / FGO-299). Klever S25 / Klever S45 Aiming to offer a new design concept for electric bicycles, Klever Mobility has already set the standard with its first pedelec. In the spring of 2013, the Klever S25 won the internationally acclaimed red dot award for product design. This agile bike, which is also available as an S-Pedelec with pedal-assist up to 45 km/h, was designed primarily with commuters in mind, for whom health and eco-friendly mobility is just as important as high-quality materials and components, as well as its tasteful design which sets it off clearly from ordinary bikes. The high-performance in-house BIACTRON drive ensures rapid acceleration. On top of that, the bike with the zigzag unisize frame is equipped with everything which characterises a modern e-bike: 10-speed derailleur gears, disc brakes and 70 lux LED lights are fitted as standard, as are latest generation e-bike tyres. Frame: 6061 Aluminium with cables routed inside Motor: Rear wheel hub motor, generating 45 Nm, 250 W (S25) / 500 W (S45) Battery: Fork: Gears: Lights: Brakes: Tyres: Payload: 44 V Li-on battery with charge state indicator, providing 360 Wh (S25) / 480 Wh (S45) RST suspension fork with lockout 10-speed derailleur gears, SHIMANO Deore Rear: LED lamp by B&M integrated in carrier; front: LED AXA Luxx 70 Steady Auto; Shimano hub dynamo Hydraulic disc brakes Tektro HDC300 26'' Schwalbe Energizer Plus with excellent puncture protection and low rolling resistance 120 kg max.
Klever B25 / Klever B45 For connoisseurs of comfortable, compact bikes with a low crossbar, Klever has developed the full-suspension B25 model. Maximum comfort when cycling is provided by the full suspension a feature which up until now has tended to be the exception on pedelecs wide balloon tyres (Schwalbe Big Apple) and a relaxed seating position with handlebars set especially high. 24-inch wheels ensure exceptional manoeuvrability, making riding this bike a particular pleasure, which is further demonstrably enhanced by the high-performance BIACTRON drive of in-house design, in conjunction with 10-speed derailleur gears. For those who require still more performance, this modern electric runabout which goes by the name of a Klever B45 is also available in a speedy S-Pedelec version with pedal-assist up to 45 km/h. As with all Klever models, the series incorporates a one size fits all frame with an exceptionally generous range of adjustment.
