Delivering exceptional performance and Ecovalue. Ecocent

The Ecocent Hot Water System As the cost of providing heating and hot water continues to increase, homes and businesses are seeking out more efficient and cost effective ways to provide for their needs. With hot water accounting for at least a third of heating costs, finding a renewables based system that will deliver significant savings is on everyone s minds. With this as its driver, ESP has developed the most efficient and cost effective means of providing hot water on the market. The Ecocent is able to provide for all your hot water needs, 365 days a year and at a fraction of the cost of other forms of hot water provision. The Ecocent The Ecocent is an innovative and versatile integrated heat pump and hot water cylinder that operates as a stand alone unit or in parallel with other renewable energy systems. It uses the ESP advances heat exchangers and hear recovery technology and is available in a range of sizes from 200 to 300 litres (500 litres available to order) the Ecocent comprises: An air to water heat pump A fully insulated hot water cylinder A second coil A back-up immersion heater An automated control system The Ecocent produces copious quantities of hot water and consumes only 800w/hr of electricity when running, which is much less than an electric kettle! This small amount of electricity drives the integrated air source heat pump and heat recovery cycle producing all the hot water you need. The unit does not run constantly it runs only when replenishing the cylinder after hot water has been drawn off and does this automatically. Our Ecocent is designed to take heat that would otherwise be wasted and to transfer it to the hot water system. Heat can be taken from bathrooms, kitchens, vaulted ceilings, areas of excessive solar gain, etc for example, using heat that would otherwise be expelled through extractor fans will save you money and reduce your carbon emissions.

The water temperature is fully controllable and can be set to the temperature you choose, up to 60 C. Once a week, the Ecocent will automatically go through a pasteurization cycle to ensure that your hot water system is safe from legionella bacteria this is something that most other renewable sources of hot water will not do. Because of ESP s commitment to safety, the Ecocent is always supplied with all essential safety valves and devices. When plumbed in to the mains water supply, the Ecocent will give you excellent hot water pressure at your taps and showers. The Ecocent, in most situations, is a better option than solar panels and can be supplied and installed for less than half the cost of most solar panel systems. Unlike solar panels, the Ecocent will provide 100% of your hot water requirements all year round. If you want to incorporate solar panels in to an Ecocent based system, you can do this using a second coil that is available in the cylinder the Ecocent will then provide all year round hot water, but also give you the benefit of any solar contribution via solar panels. In these circumstances, the Ecocent is your solar cylinder, so there is no need to buy an expensive twin coil solar cylinder for the solar part of the system. In suitable circumstances, the Ecocent unit can even provide central heating for smaller homes and apartment. The Ecocent will save you up to 70% on your hot water costs and reduce your carbon emissions by several tonnes per year. This means that payback of the cost of the Ecocent is only a few years and it will continue to give you savings across its life of 15 years. Our Ecocent unit is suitable for both new build and retrofitting and the cost is only slightly more than an ordinary good quality cylinder and installation is quick and simple. The Ecocent can also be at the heart of a whole house mechanical heat recovery and ventilation system (MHRV). Because new build homes must be sealed and leak proof, MHRV systems play a key role in maintaining living space comfort and freshness. ESP has available full MHRV systems that are designed for your home and specific requirements and, within these systems, the Ecocent ensures the maximum usage of available heat along with the MHRV heat exchanger. The Ecocent unit is equally at home in commercial environments. It will provide hot water using the waste heat recovered from commercial kitchens, public areas, etc.

As a by-product, the Ecocent exhausts cold air. This air can be expelled outside, or used to cool areas within the home or business premises. This is perfect for pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, schools, hospitals, care homes, sports complexes or any establishment with a need for hot water and where cooling is required or would create a more comfortable space thus reducing cooling costs. For example, in a bar or restaurant the Ecocent could recover the waste heat in the kitchen to heat the hot water, and also provide effective cooling for the cellars or back in to the kitchen to make the working environment more comfortable. In homes, the cool air can be used in conservatories in summer (when they are usually too hot to enjoy) and in the bedrooms, kitchen, home gym, etc. The Ecocent is clearly the most effective and versatile way to produce hot water and reduce your carbon emissions and at the same time it is simple to install and is a low cost option that will pay for itself in a very short period allowing you to benefit from the significant cost savings for many years thereafter. Some examples of what the Ecocent can do: Large residential home's - new system The above picture is of a residential home for the elderly with 18 residents. The new hot water system comprises 2 X 300 ltr Ecocent units and is saving the

owners 70% on historical hot water costs - delivering a 100% payback in less than a year. Golf Club This case study is for a Golf Club. The brief was to find ways to lower the clubs carbon footprint at the same time as saving money. We started the program of energy saving projects in one of the Kitchens where large amounts of hot water are used throughout the day, 364 days a year:- PROJECT TO INSTALL AN ECOCENT UNIT INTO KITCHEN We decided to approach the improvement of the Client s hot water arrangements with an initial quick win small project that would deliver immediate cost savings and demonstrate the significant savings to be made in other areas. We agreed with the Client that we should install an Ecocent to feed hot water to the large dishwasher in the main kitchen to deliver the following results. All base numbers were supplied by the Golf Club Management and Staff: Dishwasher water usage: All numbers used below are very conservative and represent MINIMUM savings that are available. 3 X 60ltr fills per day (say 2.5 fills) = 150ltrs per day/day PLUS: 150 dishwasher cycles per day @ 2.4ltrs per cycle = 360ltrs/day PLUS: Sink next to dish washer = 100ltrs/day Total water usage = 610ltrs/day for the dishwasher only. CURRENT RUNNING COSTS: To raise 610ltrs to 50 C from, say, an average of 10 C takes the following power: 4.187 J X 610kgs X (50 C 10 C = 40 C)/3.6 = 28.378Kw/hrs. With a traditional heating source maximum thermal efficiency is 95%, meaning that approximately 105% power is required to achieve the desired water temperature increase.

Thus, 28.378Kw/hrs X 105% = 29.797Kw/hrs to achieve the increase in water temperature required for the defined volume of water. CURRENT COST - Based upon electricity the cost of this power usage was 29.797Kw/hrs X 0.115p (electricity tariff paid by the Client) = 3.43 per day cost of heated water to fill the dish washer. CURRENT COST per Yr = 3.43 X 363 days/yr - 1245.09 PER YEAR. CO2 output from the process = 2.5 Tons. COST USING THE ECOCENT UNIT: The Ecocent unit uses about 1Kw (810 Watts) power to produce 3+ KW of heat. This can go as high as 3.7Kw heat from one Kw/hr of electricity. Using very conservative numbers: To create the same heat energy, the Ecocent unit will use, say, only 33% of the cost that is incurred currently. So the Ecocent cost is 1245.09 X 33% = 410.88 SAVING using the Ecocent unit, for only one commercial dish washer in the kitchen is: 1245.09-410.88 = 834.21/year. CO² savings of 1.7 tons/year = 25.5 tons over 15 years. The above takes no financial credit/account of the use that cold processed air could be put to for cellars, excessively warm rooms, etc; great in summer for busy public spaces that do not have air con. The unit would also be taking hot air out of the kitchen making for a more pleasant working environment. This heat would otherwise just be totally wasted. The Client was the first golf club to fit such energy saving and CO² production reducing equipment. NEEDLESS TO SAY THESE SAVINGS ARE CONSIDERABLE BOTH IN FINANCIAL AND CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION TERMS!

SPECIFICATIONS and PERFORMANCE The Ecocent unit is available in sizes up to 300ltr and is designed to fit in most airing cupboards. It is a perfect cost effective replacement for a traditional pressurized hot water cylinder, whether retrofitting or new build. A full product specification can be found below. 8 How the Ecocent works: Air is drawn in to the top of the unit, heat energy is extracted (even cold air has energy) and transferred to the water. Optional flexible ducts can lead to any area where heat is being wasted or used inefficiently to maximize the use of latent heat sources. Cooler, dehumidified air is expelled and can be used to cool areas such as kitchens, bedrooms, conservatories, public areas etc. or pushed outside. The process guarantees very low running costs. The unit can run during the daytime to take advantage of warmer air or at night to take advantage of cheap rate electricity and has programmable functions and timers to cater for this. NOTE: The Unit is for indoor installation only (e.g. airing cupboard). It is installed in the same way, and just as easily, as a conventional mains pressure hot water cylinder, with ducting to the chosen source(s) of waste heat. There is a 5 year warranty on the cylinder and compressor, 2 years on the remaining parts. It has up to a 15 year life expectancy with virtually no annual maintenance required. The Unit will produce substantial savings for the average family, or business, making our Ecocent heat pump a worthwhile investment with short payback time.
