FYHA Fishers Falcons Manual 2014/15 Season
Objective The objective of the FYHA Fishers Falcons All-Star and Select program is to provide FYHA house recreational players the opportunity to develop their skills to compete at a higher level of play. To participate in the FYHA all-star program, a player must be registered with the FYHA house hockey organization. Name of the FYHA All-Star and Select Teams Fishers Falcons Age Divisions SQUIRT, PEEWEE, & BANTAM Coaches Prior to tryouts a minimum of one head coach per team will be selected by the Coach-in-Chief with the approval of the FYHA Executive Board. No parent/assistant coaches will be selected prior to tryouts, however a non-parent assistant may be selected by the head coach with the approval of the Coach-in-Chief. The head coach will receive a stipend of up to the equivalent of a players annual assessment. Tryout Structure FYHA will determine dates, times and cost of all tryouts. Falcons tryouts will be conducted after May 1 for the following season. All information pertaining to the Falcons tryouts will be posted on the FYHA web site and distributed via email A three person evaluating committee will be used at each level. Evaluators will attend all 3 tryouts and will not be familiar with the players, but will have experience with coaching and evaluating players. As a group, the evaluators will rank the players. The top 10 players will automatically be placed on the Falcons All Star team. The list of the next 10 players will then be presented to the head coach for them to approve. Any player selection outside the designated total number of players determined for the team will have to be approved by the Coach in Chief. For example, if the team is to consist of 15 skaters and a coach prefers player #17 on the list over someone in the top 15 selected by the evaluators, they would have to justify this pick to the Coach in Chief.
Season Structure The following are the maximum number of players for each level of play. Coaches may select up to the maximum number. Squirt All-Star: 14 skaters and 2 goalies Pee Wee All-Star: 15 skaters and 2 goalies Bantam All-Star: 16 skaters and 2 goalies Squirt Select: 13 skaters and 2 goalies Pee Wee Select: 15 skaters and 2 goalie Bantam Select: TBD All-Star teams for each level will be registered with the Buckeye Travel League. All-Star practice will commence no earlier than the 3rd week of August. All practices prior to this will be considered voluntary. Games, other than those required for the Buckeye League seeding tournament, will begin after October 1. All Falcons games must be played prior to March 31. All-Star and Select teams may participate in tournament play during the season provided it does not interfere with any house team commitment. The All-Star team budget is based on 24 league games, 8 non league games and 2 tournaments in addition to the Buckeye League Seeding and end of year tournament. The Select team budget is based on 12-16 games and 1-2 tournaments. All Select games will be played within a reasonable drive of the Forum at Fishers. Apparel All players will be required to purchase or rent game jerseys for home and away games. Cost of jersey rentals will be determined by the FYHA Board. All players will be required to purchase game socks and a practice jersey. Players attire worn to the games will be determined by the Coach in Chief and Falcons Commissioner. FYHA Responsibilities Schedule tryout ice Roster teams with Mid-Am & USA Hockey Keep accounting of team assessments and expenses Assist in scheduling games Find and approve vendors for uniforms and spirit wear Order spirit apparel Player and Parent House Obligations The FYHA house program is the players and parents primary hockey obligation. Once a position on a Falcons team is accepted, players are obligated to pay the full assessment.
Players must participate in all House practices and games in order to be eligible for Falcons games. No double rostering will be permitted without the approval of the FYHA Executive Board. Team Structure Head Coach Assistant Coaches Team Manager responsible for team operations including supervisor of game and referee scheduler, finance person and hotel scheduler. Responsible for obtaining scorers and timer keepers for games. Responsible for communications to the team where assigned by the Head Coach. Game & Referee Scheduler to schedule games and tournaments, and referees for home games. Hotel Scheduler to schedule rooms when needed. Most hotels will comp one hotel room when scheduling a hockey team. If a room is comp, that room generally goes to the head coach. Disciplinary Actions The coach is responsible for discipline on the team. All USA Hockey rules and guidelines will be followed. All players and coaches are subject to the rules and disciplinary actions for the leagues and tournaments in which they play. All disciplinary issues that fall outside the USA Hockey rules and guidelines or the leagues in which the teams participate will be the responsibility of the disciplinary chair and the FYHA Board. Financial Obligations The FYHA will determine a budget for each team and will determine the player assessments. Estimated budgets for each team is as follows: Squirt All-Star: $1250 Pee Wee All-Star: $1400 Bantam All-Star: $1400 Squirt Select: $600-$800 Pee Wee Select: $600-$900 Bantam Select: $600-$900 All tryout fees are non-refundable A credit card or debit card is required at the time of acceptance to play on a Falcons team. The first assessment of $250 is collected when the Falcons team is selected. All following assessment fees will be billed to the credit card or debit card on file on the following dates: Oct. 1 st, Nov 1 st, Dec 1 st, Jan 1 st. A final assessment if required will be due on Mar 1 st.
