About RZGW Gdańsk Area of RZGW Gdańsk is the water region of Lower Vistula, which includes: Lower Vistula river basin from the village Korabniki to the estuary of the Baltic Sea Pomeranian river basins to the west of the Vistula river to Slupia river including Pomeranian river basins to the east of the Vistula river to Pasleka river including The main axis of the hydrographic and morphological is Vistula Valley. This area is 70.3% of the total area of the Lower Vistula region (ie, 24.9 tys.km ²). The remaining 29.7% constitute the catchment area of Coastal rivers.

About RZGW Gdańsk The administrative region of the Lower Vistula River covers almost all of Pomerania, the northern part of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie and western part of the Warmia and Mazury voivodeships.

Activities of RZGW RZGW realise generally two groups of tasks concerning: duties as an owner of inland surface waters maintenance of waters and waters structures like waterways, storage reservoirs, locks and dams, sluices, flood gates and security gates, ports and winter camps for icebreakers; tasks of water management on the whole territory of RZGW - to ensure adequate public drinking water (quantity and quality), protection against pollution, protection against floods and drought, providing water for industry, navigation and hydro powers and other use of water.

Rivers in maintenance of RZGW Gdańsk

Main duties as an owner of inland surface waters programming of the development and preservation of inland surface waters, elaborating of multi-year projects and yearly investment and budgetary plans for the preservation and use of inland surface waters, assurance of proper technical conditions and servicing of hydro engineering buildings and facilities, assurance of correct condition of beds of rivers and streams for navigation and for providing outflow of flood waters, water management in the retention reservoirs, participation in flood emergency operations, holding the investor s function in the field of water investments, collection of charges and fees for the navigation and sluice operation, materials extracted from the surface waters, lease of the shore/bank areas

Main tasks concerning water management making balances of surface and underground waters, determining the conditions of use of water for the river basins, acting as a party in legal proceedings in the cases regarding the specific use of inland waters (special permits) and other administrative proceedings pertinent to water management and protection, keeping the water cadastres, initiating studies and research on protection of surface and underground waters, working out programmes and plans of water resources management, waters protection, flood and draught prevention, giving options on designs.

The Polish-Swedish seminar in December of 2007 The idea to create cooperation between Baltic countries in the field of modern water management was given during the Polish-Swedish seminar in December of 2007. The main objectives: effective river basin cooperation, water users partnership, effective measures aiming at decreasing of outflows of nutrients from diffuse sources, transfer of knowledge and technology between the regions.

Activities in Bauda pilot project Using internet and GIS for public participation: creating a GIS based water information exchange system for Bauda catchment and setting it on website, meetings presenting the information exchange syste working out a compromise stating the common objectives and the ways to achieve them the water use condition.
