WELDING

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products High performance. Improved safety. Controlled costs. Welding. It s a regular and routine task during maintenance and repair. Whereever and whenever hot work takes place on board; safety must always have the highest priority - for the protection of crew, ship and cargo. This applies to the welding equipment itself, but equally to the procedures followed by the welder. As a minimum requirement, welding should be carried out competently to avoid the cost of failure further down the line. As an additional challenge, regulating bodies now demand compliance over welding equipment and consumables. All important considerations for shipowners and managers. Without a reliable welding solution, maintenance costs can quickly run out of control. With the Unitor range, WSS offers a complete solution for every welding application on board. Safe welding, we believe, is effective welding. For this reason, Unitor equipment across the range has advanced safety features built in - such as VRD (Voltage Reducing Device) function protecting the welder against electric shock. All Unitor equipment is designed in full compliance with current safety regulations at sea and we make technical information accessible to end users, helping to ensure that equipment is always used properly and safely. Further support is available through our welding safety inspections. We survey equipment on board and provide you with a confidential report highlighting any areas of non-compliance. PAGE 02 / 03

Safety first. Always. Unplanned downtime periods caused by breakdown of equipment can become expensive. Unitor welding equipment is designed and manufactured with simple and reliable operation in mind. As an example, our Total Protection (TP) system is a standard feature across all Unitor welding inverters. Effectively, the TP system acts as a failsafe, automatically shutting down the unit if the primary voltage supply on board exceeds safe levels. This prevents damage to the machine itself and improves the overall safety. Also, the machines operate with open circuit voltage below 10V which is a safety precaution for the crew, vessel and cargo. Documentation. A prerequisite for safe welding. Safety, of course, isn t simply about the equipment. The way the equipment is used and the level of competence among users are the key factors contributing to safe welding performance. At every opportunity we offer support to make certain that Unitor products are used properly and safely. While the equipment is standardised and easy to use, it is also backed up by detailed documentation - user manuals, welding handbooks, consumable selectors, product data sheets, safety data sheets, problem solver wall charts and specialist literature. Extra support is also available directly from our technical team via phone or e-mail. We go further. Most of our consumables are supplied with a safety data sheet, and for electrodes, the fume class and relevant safety precautions are clearly communicated. And where conditions on board demand extra protection, we can provide equipment such as fume extractors, welding curtains, spatter blankets, protective clothing and face shields with filter and fresh air supply to the welder. All of which adds confidence that welding tasks can be carried out with minimum risk to crew, vessel and cargo. Safety Inspections Safety comes through certainty. To help establish safe welding practice on board, WSS offers customers welding safety inspections. Working through our global support network, we can arrange these inspections so they take place at a port that suits your schedule. Inspections are carried out by trained port engineers who conduct a thorough survey of welding equipment on board. From what we learn, we provide a confidential report identifying any areas of non-compliance and offer suggestions for improving safety. It s better to know.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products The Unitor welding range. ENGINEERED QUALITY. Quality in marine welding equipment is not an optional extra. By investing in high quality equipment designed specifically for the demands of the onboard environment, you avoid the cost of downtime due to equipment failure and maintain the highest standards of safety. That s the thinking behind the entire Unitor range. Wilhelmsen Ships Service has a long track record of innovation in welding and the Unitor range today represents the most technically advanced equipment adapted to onboard applications. Lightweight and portable, allowing access to the most confined areas. Durable and robust; built to withstand the harsh marine environment on board. Versatile and adaptable, capable of tackling a wide range of maintenance tasks. From pipe repair to hand rails repair. Or from cold repair systems to cutting. Here s further reassurance: all Unitor equipment is manufactured in full compliance with current regulations for maritime use. And we constantly look ahead towards changes in regulation to make sure that our equipment remains compliant always. UWI-320TP Welding Inverter The ultimate welding inverter for on board use. The most portable and compact 320A inverter on the marine market. Weight 18 kg only DC current 10-320A MMA and TIG welding O.C.V. Consumables Commitment to quality applies to our range of welding consumables which cover all normally occurring needs on board. Electrodes are supplied in sealed containers to prevent moisture absorption and damage. They carry approvals from the major classification societies. the Unitor range today represents the most technically advanced equipment available.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products Availability The equipment you need, where you need it. It s impossible to predict when or where the need for maintenance or repair will arise. But one thing is certain: when it does you need the right equipment at hand in order to get the job done effectively, with minimum downtime. PAGE 08 / 09

The WSS network offers worldwide availability for Unitor welding equipment and consumables.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products Making sure crew work better, and safer. TRAINING. The competence of the operator is key to safe welding. To help maintain high levels of competence among crew, we share a range of e-learning modules with our customers. These cover the correct use of Unitor equipment and demonstrate techniques for better, and safer, practice in welding. Welding on board demands skilled operators. On-board welding takes place under varied and often very difficult or even unpredictable conditions, and the range of base materials that require cutting or welding is typically wide. WSS is helping operators to prepare for this range of challenges through our dedicated training programmes, focussing on the safe use of welding equipment and good welding practice. These take place at our own academies or at partner institutes around the world, bringing the best quality training to your crews. PAGE 10 / 11
