10 Thuraya MarineComms products are in use today by coastal merchant fleets, workboats, offshore support vessels, fishing vessels, yachts and leisure craft. Thuraya MarineComms and Singaporebased service partner Devor Technologies joined forces to assist an offshore vessel operator in urgent need of a reliable communications solution when the installed VSAT system began to be affected by heavy weather. Devor recommended the Thuraya Maritime Broadband solution and shipped the equipment to arrive with the vessel over a weekend for immediate installation. Devor s Managing Director, Kenny Koh, and his team assisted the installation remotely as the crew commissioned the terminal. The Thuraya Customer Care team arranged immediate activation of the SIM card and by Sunday third party internet speed tests onboard the ship showed very good downlink and uplink speeds. Confirmation on the purchase depended on the customer s acceptance of the speed and durability of the connection, which was received three days later. Koh s client, AHTS, who operates over 100 vessels engaged in platform supply, emergency response and rescue, endorsed the performance of Thuraya Maritime Broadband. The Thuraya solution has been very stable and feedback from the vessel is that signal strength is 85%-95% and we have not witnessed a single outage during three months of operation. The system is used to connect to the corporate VPN and the crew also shares the system and is happy with uplink and downlink speeds. The Thuraya IP satisfied our requirements for both business and personal use.
