We are pleased to present to you our bid to host the 2015 Melges 24 World Championship. Helsingfors Segelklubb r.y. was founded in 1899 by keen sailors from the Helsinki area. The first club harbours were located in the western part of Helsinki. But the club had to move as the city waterfront was filled in to allow construction of housing blocks. The present harbour is just less than 10 minutes away from downtown Helsinki on the east side of the island of Lauttasaari. Our harbour has been in use for more than 40 years and constantly well maintained. During the past decades we have hosted almost every year an international level sailing competition. Just to mention some of the biggest during the past 5 years in 2009 Laser 4.7 Europeans (240 of the Lasers), and in 2011 Open European Championship for Olympic classes (140 of the 470s). Finland is well known of it s Melges 24 fleet but there still is a potential for growth. Helsinki has an strong tradition of onedesign class boat (J80, H-Boat, Express, Star, Dragon, Folkboat, Soling) and dinghy class competitions. The 2015 Melges 24 World Championship will be based upon the spirit of Finnish sailing traditions. You will enjoy the effectiveness of our skilled race management and great waters, our Scandinavian friendliness and great atmosphere in a relaxed setting. We are looking forward to see you all in Helsinki! Timo Nurmilaukas Commodore Henrik Andersson 1st Vice-commodore
We are pleased to support the bid to host the 2015 Melges 24 World Championship. The Finnish Melges 24 Association has a long and strong reputation in the world of Melges 24 sailing. Started officially back in 1997 but the first two boats sailed already in 1995. Our leading boat / team was for almost a decade the Thelen brother s & co with ex Fazer and Suunto. Our superb co-operation with the Estonians started in September 2006 when we had our first official Finnish Estonian ranking event in Talllinn. This journey has been a superb success story not only having the active ranking series on both sides of Gulf of Finland. But most of all looking at the latest championship scoreboard Our two big achievements have been the 2003 Jacob Creek European Championship held in Helsinki and the 2010 Marinepool World Championship held in Tallinn Estonia. But to get even more enthusiatic Melges24 sailors we need again a big boost. It would be a dream come true to see you all in Helsinki during early August 2015!
