Pre-event Recording This user-selectable feature can be set to automatically capture up to three minutes of video prior to record activation. ION pre-event recording is fixed at 60 seconds. Road Boss pre-event can be set to record up to 30 seconds. Metadata All Digital Eyewitness systems collect data (i.e. time/date/record triggers) to help identify the file in a subsequent search. All systems also offer the ability to collect Stop Classification data and allow officers in the car to place a hold status on their important files before transferring them to the back-office video database Common Features of the Digital Eyewitness Family of Products Industry Standard Compression All Digital Eyewitness systems offer industry standard MPEG compression: MPEG1, MPEG2 and/or MPEG4. The G3 and ION Eclipse offer user selectable compression that can easily be changed even after your systems are installed. Most Digital Eyewitness systems also offer multiple recording rates. Please refer to the Recording Capacity Tables for each system to see the recording times based on the media, recording rate and compression selected. ClearComm DSS (Digital Spread Spectrum) ClearComm DSS activates automatically whenever the system starts to record and returns to standby when you stop recording. With ClearComm you ll record excellent quality audio with little or no effort. Transmitter status is provided by an internal vibrator that buzzes to let you know when you start transmitting or return to standby. LEDs on the transmitter provide additional status, or select the LED Blackout mode to prevent illumination when you re working outside the car at night. ClearComm features diversity receivers and digital error forward correction to reduce data errors, improve the accuracy of the transmission and to achieve better range. A hard-wired in-car mic is available on all systems to covertly record suspects detained in the patrol vehicle. Compact Zoom Camera All Digital Eyewitness in-car systems incorporate a zoom camera (optional on Road Boss). This camera offers the sharpest images and exceptional color with the highest resistance to headlight blooming and smearing for superior nighttime recording. When activated, the backlight compensation provides better visibility in poor lighting conditions.
Digital Eyewitness Family Controller/Monitor Configuration To accommodate a variety of vehicle configurations and department needs, all Digital Eyewitness systems (except Road Boss) can be configured with a dedicated controller or allow you to use your mobile data computer (MDC) as the system s controller/monitor. Pictured above is the integrated overhead console available with ION and ION Eclipse. See pages 34 and 35 for additional controller/monitor options for ION and ION Eclipse. Back Office Media Manager Add a Digital Eyewitness Media Manager (DEMM) to your system for a Total Video Solution. See pages 39 and 40. Security and Evidence Admissibility Our in-car video software records a digital watermark simultaneously with the video. Our file verification program allows scrutinized files to be authenticated as valid, unaltered files. Options Automatic Crash Record Activation If the system detects a patrol car collision, the video recorder (including the pre-event recording) is automatically activated so that if the impact occurred in the view of the active camera, the collision and a segment of video leading up to the collision will be recorded. With this feature, forensic investigators can view the events leading up to a collision. Crash Activation is not available on Road Boss. GPS This feature allows you to display GPS coordinates full time or only when you press a marking button, to indicate the location of a particular incident (i.e. something tossed from a vehicle you re pursuing). The GPS option also controls the video system s clock to help ensure recordings from multiple cars at the same scene will display the same time. If ordered with the G3 or ION Eclipse, the GPS option also gives you the ability to display the speed of the patrol car, the direction the patrol car is traveling, and allows you to set a threshold patrol speed for record activation. The GPS option is not available on Road Boss. Rear-facing Interior Camera A stand-alone rear-facing camera is available on all systems (except Road Boss). This camera offers a wide view of the vehicle's interior and includes IR LEDs to allow nighttime suspect transports to be recorded. If used with the ION or ION Eclipse, this camera can also be integrated into the overhead console. Video evidence recorded by any Kustom Signals video system is admissible under the Federal Rules of Evidence and meets both Frye and Daubert requirements. A white paper addressing admissibility issues is available.
Digital Eyewitness ION / ION Eclipse PLAYABLE DVD OPTION The ION and ION Eclipse Playable DVD media option records on a disc that can be taken directly from the car to a regular DVD player. No computer is needed for playback, no database is needed to manage the discs, and no IT staff is needed to manage a database. Easy to Use Playable DVDs are burned right in the car by pressing a few buttons. Cost Effective DVD+R discs are inexpensive and play on very affordable consumer DVD players. Quality Video All files are recorded using MPEG2 compression and a 720 x 480 resolution/frame size to provide excellent video quality. Evidence Integrity DVD+R is a write-once format. After the files are burned to a disc, they cannot be erased or altered. Therefore, you can easily refute a false accusation of erasing or tampering with a file. In-Car Selective File Burning Files are also recorded on an internal hard drive to ensure the DVD burn process is successful. Additional copies of files residing on the hard drive may be selectively burned. Slimline DVD Burner The compact, lightweight DVD drive was specifically chosen for its ability to operate in demanding conditions, including the ability to operate horizontally or vertically. Shock and vibration protection is included in the package to further ensure reliable burning. Fast, Reliable Burning The DVD+R drive offers superior burn speeds and the most reliable burning method available. Files may be burned on demand by accessing a menu option. If unburned files exist, the system will automatically notify the user each time the system is powered down. Burn While Moving The shock and vibration protection included in the slimline drive allows you to burn DVDs even while the car is moving. DVD Express Software Included with the system, this software provides easy and intuitive file playback and duplication using your PC.
