3 1. Overview The provides you 20 times higher resolution pictures (compared to analog systems) with its 9 megapixel Logipix cameras. The recorded images are stored on a high capacity Logipix Network Video Recorder. The Control Center software efficiently handles network traffic - even in small bandwidth situations - with the adaptable JPEG2000 compression and LogiZoom feature. The cost of the installations can be minimized because of the built-in LPoE power supply and the LPoE Network repeater which extends simple CAT5 wire range up to 300 meters. 2. System components The illustration below shows the system components and their connections to each other: 3/11

4 2.1. Hardware components Logipix camera The Logipix camera is a security camera with a 9 megapixel resolution CMOS sensor. The Logipix camera has two types: a simple indoor and an outdoor design with hardware day/night switching. Both designs can drive DC iris optics. Two I/O channels and optional audio input/output (with built-in or external microphone) are also available. The camera can be powered by LPoE or an external 12VDC power supply. The Logipix camera can switch between three resolutions: 9 megapixels (maximum 4fps), 2.2 megapixels (maximum 12fps) and 0.5 megapixels (maximum 25fps). The camera has got JPEG2000 compression hardware Logipix Network Video Recorder (LNVR) The Logipix Network Video Recorder is a triplex device which receives the pictures from the Logipix cameras, stores them and transfers the live and recorded pictures to the monitoring software. The LNVR is available in two designs: box and racked. The box design of the LNVR can handle 4 SATA hard disks and it has 8 or 16 LPoE ports to connect Logipix cameras and a 2 Gigabit port to connect to the local network or connect additional cameras (up to 16). The racked design can handle 4, 8 or 20 SATA hard disks with hot-swap option. It has 16 LPoE ports to connect Logipix cameras and a 2 Gigabit port to connect to the local network or connect additional cameras (up to 32). Extension to hybrid recorder (records pictures from 8-16 analog cameras, too) is also available for this design. Both designs have built in backup electronics, only batteries are required to connect to the LNVR LPoE Ethernet Repeater The LPoE repeater is device developed by us for extending the normal CAT5 wire range to 300m (this is the effective range of analog systems with coaxial cable). The repeater gets power supply directly from the LPoE. It must be used every 100m and can be used 2 on a line (this way the total cable length can be 300m) Lenses The Logipix camera has a CS socket and 1/2" size, 9 megapixel sensor, so the lenses must fulfill these requirements to operate in a Logipix system. Furthermore, IR compensated lenses are required for outdoor use. The camera also can drive DC iris lenses. 4/11

5 2.2. Software components Control Center The Control Center software developed to handle complex surveillance systems. It can show the camera pictures from the whole system (including other StP devices). The pictures from different cameras can be arranged into monitor profiles. All pictures from cameras have only the necessary size to view in the selected dimension. This means that the transferred data on the network can be minimized. The Control Center can also search among the pictures recorded from the devices. It can show the archive pictures from different recorders at the same time. This way the situations can be investigated more efficiently. The selected archive sections will be downloaded to download containers on the server. The client side of the Download Manager can order and filter the downloaded videos to make better perspicuity. This software is can display the events from other StP subsystems (access control, alarm) too. It also can show the state of the video surveillance system (motion detection, storage capacity, error messages, etc.) SCPlayer The SCPlayer is free software which can handle one LNVR with a maximum of 8 Logipix cameras. It can show the live pictures from the cameras, search the recorded pictures on the LNVR, show them and save them to the PC which runs the SCPlayer. The SCPlayer can setup the LNVR and the Logipix cameras too. It also has the Camera focus setup function. This software is very useful during installation and remote checking certain devices Special features Motion detection The camera has a built-in, hardware supported motion detection function. This function works with the uncompressed pictures, so the accuracy of the function does not depend on the picture compression ratio. The algorithm has many setup options: Sensitivity: the minimum change between two pictures to make effect (sound an alarm, change record settings) Holding: after an alarm, the changes in the picture won't make another alarm during this time. The new change restarts this timer, so continuous movement won't make regular alarm. Mask: a selected area on the picture. It also has sensitivity level. With high sensitivity selection and low sensitivity background, the changes on the selection have an effect, but the changes in the background don't have an effect. 5/11

6 Privacy mask The Privacy mask is a selected area of the picture which will always be blank (both on live and recorded video). This area won't affect the color level and light compensation algorithms Exposition mask The Exposition mask is a selected area of the picture which area won't affect the color level and light compensation algorithms Day-Night This function is available only for day-night design Logipix Cameras. The camera has a built-in, mechanically moved IR filter which is essential in outdoor use (IR compensated lenses also required). The camera automatically measures the brightness of the pictures, and when it became too dark (and other automatically adjustable parameters are fulfilled) it switches to night mode. In night mode the IR filter will be removed between the lenses and the sensor and the picture turns to black and white. Without the IR filter the sensor gets more light and IR illuminators can work effectively LogiZoom The LogiZoom function is essential for low bandwidth multi-megapixel surveillance systems. It uses the flexibility of JPEG2000, which can provide different resolutions for different parts of the same picture. The recorded pictures on the LNVR can be always full resolution pictures but the bandwidth of the network is not always enough to transfer the full resolution pictures at the required speed. But a surveillance system doesn't require full resolution pictures from all cameras at the same time. The Control Center software makes a request for the pictures from the LNVRs only in the necessary resolution. With the LogiZoom function a selected part of the picture can be viewed in full resolution for better visibility while the remaining part of the picture remains in low resolution for the higher refresh speed. For example: the full resolution picture is 500KByte but the necessary resolution picture just 50KByte. There is something on the picture which needs to be enlarged. This high resolution part of the picture is 50KByte. It means that 50+50KByte data transfer needed on the network instead 500KByte. It can provide a five times higher refresh rate at the same quality as the full time high resolution picture transfer Network speed limit The LNVR and the monitoring software can be used with a limited network. The limits can be set on both sides (at the LNVR or/and at the Control Center) which is useful in complex network systems with different bandwidth limits Video Proxy The Video Proxy server module service can be used by the Control Center. The Control Center does 6/11

7 not make a request for the picture directly to the LNVR, but to the Video Proxy server module. This way more Control Centers can receive the same picture without placing an extra load on the LNVR and the network. The Video Proxy server module has a cache where the displayed pictures can be stored for a short interval in the displayed resolution Download Manager The Video Proxy server module's service can be used by the Control Center. The Control Center does not make a request for the picture directly to the LNVR but to the Video Proxy server module. This way more Control Center can receive the same picture without extra load of the LNVR and the Camera focus setup This is a function of the SCPlayer software. This function shows the actual picture, the size of the picture, a histogram with the change of the picture sizes and a diagram of the actual picture size in proportion to the maximum picture size. The picture size is in direct proportion to the sharpness of the picture. The sharper the picture, the greater the picture size. 7/11

8 2.4. Installation guide Installing the camera After unpacking the camera, remove the sensor's protective cap and equip the lenses as soon as possible to prevent defilement. Connect the iris drive connector to the camera (if the lenses have a DC iris). The connector can be found at the back of the camera. Mount the camera to a console or into a camera house. The camera can be fixed most of the standard box camera consoles and can be inserted most of the standard box camera houses. We strongly recommend using waterproof housing, with built-in heating and cooling for outdoor use. The Logipix camera needs an UTP connector with CAT5 (or higher) cable for communication. With the LNVR's built-in LPoE router this connector can provide the power to the camera. If this feature cannot be used, then the device requires an external 12VDC power supply. The connector to the external power supply can be found at the back of the camera. The connector to the external microphone and the two I/O channels can also be found there Setup the camera focus with SCPlayer After the camera has been mounted properly, the lenses focus is ready for fine-tuning with the SCPlayer software. A notebook or PC can directly connect to the camera with the SCPlayer software. Warning! If the camera uses the LPoE power supply it can harm non-lpoe devices! If the camera uses an external power supply, then a simple LAN cable is enough for the connection. Otherwise a special setup connector is needed with an external power supply to power the camera and make the connection. If the physical connection is ready, then the notebook's or PC's network range must be set to the 10.1.x.x range. The IP address of the camera is on a label on the camera. 8/11

9 If the network setup is ready then run the SCPlayer software. Give the IP address of the camera and authentication to it (default username: stp, default password: stp). When the picture from the camera is visible, press the F12 button. It starts the camera focus setup function. First of all open the iris to full (if it is manual) and set the focus to receive a visible picture, then turn the camera to the correct direction. Then set the zoom of the lenses and set back the focus to make the picture recognizable. If you have a pointing device (mouse) with a scroll wheel, then point the most important part of the picture and with the scroll wheel enlarge it as much as possible. If you don't have pointer device then use the Page Up and Page Down buttons to zoom and the cursors to navigate on the picture. All indicators will show that the image size is smaller than the full picture. When the main target of the surveillance is in the center and it's been enlarged as much as possible, then click on the picture or hit the space bar. It will set the actual image size as the maximum image size. The indicator on the left size will be on maximum. Carefully start to turn the focus in either direction. If the indicator falls on the left side and the image size is decreasing on the bottom-right side then stop and start to turn the focus in the other direction. If the focus is improving then the indicator will stay on maximum on the left side and the image size will increase on the bottom-right. After the best position the indicator starts to fall and the image size decreases. At this point, start to turn the focus to the other direction and try to reach the maximum image size again. This will be the best focus setting for the selected area Camera configuration with Control Center When all cameras installed and connected to the LNVR and the recorder is online then the devices must be registered in the Control Center's database and setup the parameters. The LNVR and the connected cameras can be registered with the AccKonf Software: Open the Topology menu Controllers menu item and press the New button on the right side of the window Fill the name and short name of the LNVR Choose the correct LNVR type under the controller type Give the IP address of the LNVR (it can be changed with the green button next to the IP address text box) Give the LNVR's HDD number (how many hard disks have been installed in the LNVR) On the Peripheries tab pull as many Logipix cameras to the LNVR's camera inputs as are connected to the device Fill the name and the IP address for each of the cameras Download the base configuration in the Connections menu Download configuration menu item The parameter setup is in the Control Center software. Open the Camera Configuration window and setup the parameters: Name: it can be changed here, too Recording speed: the pictures recorded per second (it can be lower than 1) Playing speed: the pictures transferred online per second Quality: the compression ratio of the pictures (the lower the better) recommended: 4 Resolution: the resolution of the pictures 9/11

10 Inactive settings: these settings will be active when the motion detection does not detect changes between two pictures according to the settings Decrement FPS: in inactive state the camera can take fewer pictures than in the active state Color reduction: in inactive state the picture turns into black and white (for lower image size) Inactive Quality: in inactive state, the quality of the pictures can be different from the active state Wait before inactive state: when the motion detection gives no motion signal the inactive settings will not apply immediately Color/BW camera: the default setting Microphone: this setting need hardware components too Vertical/Horizontal flip: if the mounting of the camera required Software flip: the recorded pictures will be recorded in the original direction Saturation: this parameter sets the intensity of the color. Color detection level: if the level of the color of the picture is below this value the day/night camera switches to night mode Gamma: this parameter sets the brightness of the picture. Histogram equalization: this function compensates for the high contrast on the pictures. Flicker filter: this setting can compensate for the vibration of lights in indoor operations. Warning! This setting gives minimal value to the shutter time. In outdoor operations it can make the whole picture white in strong light. Manual shutter: sets a maximum limit for the shutter. It can prevent objects from appearing hazy on the pictures when the object moving in low light. But too small shutter time makes noisier pictures and earlier night mode switching. Max Gain: the software gain starts to operate when the light level of the image gets low. This operation increases the brightness of the picture, but it makes the picture noisier. With this parameter the maximum value of the gain can be set. Low shutter operation: this mode allows the camera to gain the shutter time up to 1 second. This can make pictures taken in extreme low light conditions recognizable. With this mode the moving objects will be woolly. Manual base shutter time: when the camera reaches this value of shutter time (because of the light conditions) the algorithm starts to increase the gain to make a recognizable picture. Shutter priority: the camera automatically changes the gain and the shutter time depending on the light conditions. These parameters give directions about the strategy to this automated function. In a Balanced case the automated function increases the gain and the shutter equally when lights getting lower. In Lower blur case the function increases the gain at first and then the shutter if necessary. In Lower noise case the function increases the shutter at first and then the gain if necessary. Day-night filter: this parameter is effective only with day-night design Logipix. It determines how long the night mode switching conditions must exist before the camera switches to night mode. Day-night tilt: this parameter effective only with day-night design Logipix. It determines how long the night mode will not switch back to day mode. 10/11

11 Motion detection: it provides the possibility to switch the recording parameters between active and inactive states. It also able to sound an alarm for motion detection. The motion detection's active area can be the whole picture or part(s) of the picture. Three different areas can be defined with different sensitivity (the default area's sensitivity can be set as well). Exposition mask: a selected area of the picture which area won't affect the color level and light compensation algorithms.
