Surgical Services in the Divisions of General and Vascular Surgery Mount Auburn Hospital s Divisions of General and Vascular Surgery have had, as their primary purpose, the provision of consultative care and operative services to the hospital s referral base. Surgeons serving in these divisions are broadly trained to serve the emergent and undifferentiated needs of the community while offering the specialty care necessary to function as viable members of multispecialty management teams. We value the interaction with our colleagues in medicine, family practice, gynecology, medical specialties, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and radiology. Recent recruitments to the department have mirrored national trends in surgery. Vascular training in many institutions has split from general surgical training and is becoming increasingly catheter-based; reflecting this change, Drs. Chantel Hile and Michelle Martin have been recruited to the Division of Vascular Surgery and will function as full time vascular surgeons at Mount Auburn Hospital. Working with Drs. Frank Vittimberga and Rick Bartlett, they will bring our total number of vascular surgeons to four. Most recently, Drs. Karen Ahlert, Jaisa Olasky, and Jordan Gutweiler have been 2added to the Division of General Surgery and bring their expertise from Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Southern California, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Lahey Clinic to our institution. We hope you find this brochure useful as a guide to surgical services in the Divisions of General and Vascular Surgery. Russell J. Nauta, M.D. Chairman, Department of Surgery, Mount Auburn Hospital Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School 3
