Training Session Notes and Template The Training Session Template is a tool designed to plan and record training sessions in order to standardize and share trainings with the rest of the organization to use! You are welcome and encouraged to use this tool at the early stages of planning or when the training is complete to record and share. Send the completed template to new.training.session@cisv.org. To use for planning, consider the following: - Review the relevant training curriculum which includes the training goals and indicators. - Select the element you will be covering in your training session. Keep in mind that an element can be completed in one or more sessions; - Identify the key expected outcomes of your session: what are you aiming to achieve? What will participants learn or gain from the session? First, provide General Information: - Create a name for the training session that represents what is covered in the session and is easily understood by others (including specific areas and topics within the element); - Provide the trainer s name and email (in case people want to contact the creator in the future); - State the duration of your training session to clearly identify the time required for it; - Provide a brief description of the training which summarizes the activities, elements, outcomes and experiential learning process being used to give another trainer an idea of how and when to use this session. Next, describe the Training Session: - Provide a complete description of the training session, using one row to explain each activity in detail. Consider each step of the session from the starting point, through the middle and to the end. - List and describe the activity or activities that you are running in this training session in order to get to the expected outcomes: o Identify which element(s), goal(s) and/or indicator(s) are covered by each activity; o Describe the activity in details, including the material required and the time needed to complete each one of them; o Explain what participants will be doing by identifying which phase(s) of the learning by doing or experiential learning cycle are being implemented:

Do: A concrete or hands-on experience (game, role-play, video) Reflect: Individual or groups thinking about or sharing experiences to more deeply understand an A, S, or K (discussion, writing, artistic expression) Generalize: Explore how an A, S, K can be developed or how it fits into the bigger picture (action planning, discussion) Apply: To practice a new A, S, or K to fully incorporate into your behavior (role playing, leading an activity) *Keep in mind that you can use as many activities as needed within one training session so as you complete the template add rows as needed for each activity in the session. Lastly, share Lessons Learned from your training experience. - Report what you believe was the greatest learning achievement for the participants as a result of the session and provide an explanation or evidence to support your statement; - Share any tip or suggestion you might have for future facilitators. We would all benefit from what you have experienced and your warnings and highlights could prevent and better prepare others. Thank you for sharing your best training sessions! The Training and Quality Assurance area is excited to have trainers share their best practices with one another. We are constantly trying to improve our material to better meet the organization s needs! Please send feedback you have on the template and your experience using it to new.training.session@cisv.org.
