FOUNDRY TECHNOLOGY

The Zollern factories The ZOLLERN GmbH & Co. KG is a company with worldwide operations, employing over 3000 employees in the business fields of transmission technology (automation, gears and winches), plain bearing technology, engineering elements, foundry technology and steel profiles. Copper-aluminium alloys 4 Copper-tin and copper-tin-zinc casting alloys 6 Copper-zinc casting alloys 8 Copper-lead-tin casting alloys 8 Copper-nickel casting alloys 10 Copper casting alloys 10

FOUNDRY TECHNOLOGY 2 3 Casting on highest level Since the company foundation in 1708 components of metallic materials are cast. Besides an iron and steel a bronze foundry was erected around 1890. Nowadays mainly sand castings of copper and copper alloys are produced but also castings of high and low alloyed steels and nickel alloys. For the hand- or automatically formed parts resinoid-bonded sands are used. This ensures an excellent surface as well as very close tolerances. Components with special requirements can be cast as per the shell moulding process using ceramic moulds and ceramic cores. Castings of copper alloys can be realized up to unit weights of abt. 7,000 kgs and up to abt. 1,200 kgs of steel. A well equipped machine shop with latest CNC lathes allows pre- or finish-machining of castings as per customers drawings. In the laboratory and testing department all destructive and non-destruc - tive tests and examinations are possible. Our production is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 : 2000. Quality and service are our basis for successful work on the national and international market.

Friction bearings in which edge pressure can occur, e.g. calender bearings, vehicle bearings, bearings for hot rolling mills with surface pressure and good lubrication up to p = 6 kn/cm 2, bearings at risk of dust, in milling and grinding machinery. 18 0.59 6 7 < 1.01 Soft lead-tin-bronze with very good sliding properties, good running quality in case of emergency and good embedding capability, insensitive to edge pressure. Bearings with surface pressures up to 5 kn/cm 2 and good lubri - cation, bearings in which marked edge pressure occurs such as calender and rolling mill bearings, bearings at risk of dust such as milling and grinding machinery, camshaft bushes, also with cast-in cooling pipes. 1 For ISO, F and GB the abbreviations, and for the USA the alloy number introduced in all standards (ASTM, SAE, MIL etc.) has been specified. largely in agreement; () partially in agreement. 2 G = sand casting; GZ = centrifugal casting; M = shell mould casting. The values indicated are minimum values ascertained on separately cast test bars in the case of G and M. In the case of GZ, the test bar is taken from the casting; here the specified values apply only for wall thicknesses up to 50 mm.
