Page 1 of 5 Camtasia Powerpoint Recordings After creating your powerpoint, use Camtasia to enhance the presentation. With Camtasia installed, a special Record menu appears in the upper left hand corner of the Powerpoint Application. It looks like this: Powerpoint Setup The first time you use Camtasia with powerpoint you need to set up recording options. 1. Click on the this icon (Camtasia Studio Recordings icon) in the Camtasia menu. And the window above will appear. 2. In top section Program make sure everything is selected as shown. If you want your cursor highlighted or a watermark on your presentation, here is the place to indicate it. 3. In bottom section Record Hotkey you can modify these for recording and stopping. Recommend easiest keys for you to remember and use. (Suggested is just F9 and F10) 4. In the middle section Video and Audio make sure the Record audio box is checked. 5. Click the Advanced Box to set up Audio. a. Choose C-Media USB Headphone Set Make sure Output File Type is checked to save as CAMREC
Page 2 of 5 b. Click on Audio Setup Wizard here is where you test your headphones and audio level. Make sure your settings match what s in the picture below. 6. Plug in your headphones 7. Click on the Next button at the bottom of this page. 8. On this screen select Auto-Adjust Volume. This will test your microphone. It will give you a 3-2-1 countdown to begin talking talk for the allotted time and it will give you a status at the bottom of the page after the test is run. Watch the Input level on the right if your voice is recording in the yellow or red level, it should be working. If not, you ll need to adjust the headset. Once you re happy with the volume level, click Finish. 9. Hit the record button in the upper left hand corner of the powerpoint program to begin recording. 10. To Pause hit Ctrl+Shift+F9 or whatever key you selected in the setup menu above in Step 3. 11. To End hit Ctrl+Shit+F10 or the ESC key or the key you selected in the setup menu above in Step 3. 12. Once you re finished, you ll be asked to save your file. 13. Once you save it, it will ask you if you want to edit or produce the file. Always select Edit file in Camtasia so it will import it into the program. This will open the Camtasia program and load your presentation into Camtasia.
Page 3 of 5 Editing in Camtasia Left menu lets you edit your presentation 1. Import Media lets you add pictures, video, etc to the timeline. (Method: click into timeline where you want to add.) 2. Title Clips adds a screen that shows before the presentation begins, or anywhere within the presentation (chapter breaks, end slide, etc). (Method: Create it and drag into timeline. Note: It will be the same size as your other screens.) 3. Voice Narration use this if you only want to create an audio presentation, or to edit or add to current show. (Method: Click into timeline where you want to record) 4. Record Camera lets you add a webcam to the presentation. (Method: Setup camera before recording) 5. Audio Enhancement let s you even out audio levels and remove noise. (Method: Click into Audio Enhancement and highlight area you want to edit.) 6. Transitions let s you create interest between slides. (Method: Click on transitions and choose transition on timeline) 7. Callouts let s you add overlays, arrows, to highlight information. (Method: click into timeline and then add Callouts. Note: adds special line to timeline) 8. Zoom and Pan lets you move in on specific areas of the screen. (Method: click into timeline and then create. Note: adds special line to timeline). 9. Flash Quiz and Survey Add a quiz or survey to presentation. (Method: click into timeline and then create. Note: add special line to timeline.) 10. Captions can add captions to slides, sync your script, or set caption points.
Page 4 of 5 Producing Video 1. Click on Produce Video As in left navigation. 2. Choose Recommend my Production Settings and hit Next 3. How will you distribute your video: Choose Web 4. What type of content is included: Choose a. My Video includes screen recording (Note: make sure to uncheck My Video includes a Powerpoint Recording), and b. My Audio includes voice narration and hit Next. Optimize for file size or video quality: Choose closer to smaller file if no animation. 5. Optimize for file size or audio quality: Choose closer to smaller file if no animation. 6. Flash Templates Decide if you want a left Table of Contents to show. If yes, choose One video with TOC. If no, choose One video. Select the size as well - A good size for the video is 800 x 600. 7. If you choose Table of Contents, it will go to a page where you can edit your slide titles if you didn t choose Table of Contents, go to the next step.
Page 5 of 5 8. Save your file in your W: Drive something short and descriptive, but don t put spaces in the name. You can put underscores_to separate the words. Make sure you check the box Organize produced files into subfolders. This will create all the files for this camtasia presentation into a folder named the same as your Production Name. 9. Review your settings. 10. Hit Finish. It will take a few minutes to produce your video. Long periods of silence require the same amount of audio data to be stored as if there were narration. Don t waste time with flashy graphics moving around the screen, transition effects between clips or periods of music just for the sake of entertainment.
