Claims Procedure Specimen Claims Specimen fish forms must be completed in BLOCK CAPITALS, in full and sent to the National Fish Recorder, no later than 2 weeks after the capture of the fish. It is the responsibility of the captor to ensure that this form is completed fully and handed to the National Fish Recorder or posted in time to meet this deadline. All claims should be accompanied by clear photographic evidence; Photographs can be emailed to the Fish Recorder. When identification is difficult or questionable the National Fish Recorder will seek advice from a Marine Biologist. It is not necessary to kill any fish for it to be weighed on official scales. Most anglers now carry scales and it is the responsibility of the individual angler to ensure regular checking of their scales to ensure accuracy. Witnesses are therefore very important and their details must be completed in full on any claim form. Random checks will be undertaken with witnesses to verify claims. A stamped addressed envelope must accompany any claim if a receipt is required. The National Fish Recorder will not accept any claim queries without production of a receipt.

Record Claims Record fish forms must be completed in BLOCK CAPITALS, in full and sent to the Regional or National Fish Recorder, no later than 2 weeks after the capture of the fish. It is the responsibility of the captor to ensure that this form is completed fully and handed to the National Fish Recorder or posted in time to meet this deadline. All claims should be accompanied by clear photographic evidence, alongside a measure. Photographs can be emailed to the Fish Recorder.

Assessment of Tope and Smoothound These fish may be assessed using the girth/linear chart with measurements taken. All claims must be witnessed and full details of those witnesses be stated on the claim form. The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers does not condone the practice of killing fish in order for it to be weighed either on the boat or shore. Accurate measurements using the girth and linear calculation will be accepted for all claims. Girth & Length calculation Girth x Girth x Length divided by 800 = weight 1) Measure the fish's girth in inches, and then square it. 2) Multiply the arrived at figure by the fish's length, again in inches. 3) Divide the final figure by 800 to achieve the approximate weight of the fish. Here's an easy to follow example: Fish's girth=26-inches Fish's length=55-inches 26 x 26=676 676 x 55=37180 37180 divided by 800=46.475lbs The girth should be measured across the widest part and the length taken from the tip of the nose to the fork of the tail
