Production of PVD-coatings: Examples for application Direct marking : Thin layer stacks are applied directly on product surfaces or parts by using the PVD technology. These coatings are not removable without destroying them and they are wear-, scratch- and chemically resistant. Laser Transfer ARA-LT and ARA Authentic-LT PVD films are applied directly from the carrier foil to the product surface by using a laser beam. ARA-LT : Laser-induced transfer of PVD-films: Examples - Transfer of metals or alloys (gold, silver, steel, ) for decorative and functional puposes. - Transfer of functional color coatings on a lot of different materials and product surfaces. metal, textiles, ceramic, plastic... ARA Authentic-LT : - Transfer of forgery-proof, smartphone-readable PVD films on product surfaces. 17

Laser-induced transfer of PVD films: Characteristics and USP s The product surface itself is not or not significantly affected by the laser coating. ARA-LT and ARA Authentic-LT are additive methods, i.e. no surface material is removed or changed in contrast to standard laser-markings. Neither the product geometry nor its dimensions are affected. Both technologies can be customized, i.e. customer- oder product-specific requirements can be integrated. The ARA-LT as well as the ARA Authentic-LT technology can be implemented into the production lines at the customers site. The laser coating technology is very cost efficient The materials used in these laser transfer technologies are completely environmentally friendly and save resources because only a very low quantity of material is used for the laser transferable coatings. 18

Laser-induced transfer of PVD films: Characteristics and USP s The aim of the technology is to use the available functional and / or decorative sputter coatings - without placing the products in a PVD coating machine. Only pure PVD films are used for the laser transfer that means, no laquers or pigments are involved. The contrast is much larger compared to any conventional printing process. The materials of the laser transfer coatings are selected with regard to the requested functional and optical features for the product. There is a big variety of usable materials for the laser transferrable coatings e,g, metals, alloys, semiconductors as well as insulators (ceramic hard coatings) and combinations of them. The ARA LT color layers are generated during the PVD process and just transferred then or they are finally determined by the appropriate laser parameter settings. It is also possible to transfer metal layers, e.g. gold, silver, copper, titanium, aluminum, zirconium, etc. without changing their material properties. 19

Forgery-proof laser coatings: Ara-Authentic Characteristics and USP S Specific and significant color effects - easy visible with the bare eye. Fast, simple and reliable verification of originality is possible and can be proceed by using our App s, available for standard smartphone. Forensic proof is done with a VIS/NIR spectrometer. The proof of originality can be combined with identification features (Data-Matrices, Barcodes, ). The forgery-proof laser coatings can be integrated into an existing corporate identity The Ara Authentic-LT technology can be applied for low costs on products and are suitable for the implementation in large series production - directly at the locations of manufacturers.
