System setup The FM-CI adaptor can be fitted to the speech processors through a combination of the correct adaptor cord, FM-CI gain setting, Amigo receiver gain setting and Amigo receiver three position switch. Additional adaptors and adaptor cords specific to the speech processor may be required to accommodate an FM system. These can be obtained directly from the CI manufacturer. Consult the FM-CI fitting guide for more detailed instructions. It may be necessary to make changes in the speech processor program options to accommodate an FM system and maximize user benefits. Speech processor programming options may vary from product to product and manufacturer to manufacturer. Oticon recommends the FM-CI cochlear implant adaptor be fitted by a Hearing Care Professional trained to fit and program the speech processor to which the adaptor will be attached. System setup IMPORTANT! The cochlear implant speech processors and FM systems contain sophisticated electronic components. It is important to verify speech processor functionality and FM system functionality independently, prior to connecting the systems together. (See page 18 for listening check details). Assuring independent system functionality will greatly assist in fine tuning and troubleshooting. 8 9
Inserting batteries Use a small screwdriver to open the tamperproof battery compartment on the FM-CI adaptor and insert a size 13 battery. Note the polarity markings on the battery door for proper battery orientation. Wearing instructions Depending on how the processor is worn, it may be necessary to experiment with different FM-CI adaptor cords and FM-CI adaptor placement to ensure an optimal balance between wearing comfort and FM reception quality. Warning: Never change the battery in front of infants, small children or people with learning difficulties. If a battery is swallowed, see a doctor immediately. 10 11
Wearing instructions The FM-CI adaptor can be attached to your clothing via the included clip. To ensure the best FM reception, place the FM-CI adaptor on the front of your chest. Wearing instructions With body-worn processors you have two wearing options: Option 1: Connect the adaptor to the processor using a short cord. Attach the FM-CI adaptor directly to the processor by removing the clothing clip and using the hook and loop tape. Option 2: Connect the adaptor to the processor using a long cord. Attach the FM-CI adaptor to the user s clothing using the attached clothing clip. 12 13
Wearing instructions The CI headpiece can be a source of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency (RF) interference for FM receivers, depending on the settings of the processor program. To optimise FM reception, quality and transmission range the FM- CI adaptor should be placed a minimum of 12 in/30 cm from the CI headpiece. 12In/ 30cm FM system listening check A listening check should be performed on the FM system prior to connecting it to the CI speech processor. Using a hearing instrument with an FM adaptor: Attach audio shoe to the hearing instrument. Attach the Amigo receiver to the audio shoe and switch to the o position. Turn on the hearing instrument and the Amigo FM transmitter and begin speaking into the microphone. Listen to the audio output using stetoclips to avoid feedback. 14 15
FM system listening check NOTE: For specific details on hearing instrument compatibility visit www.oticon.com.
