Before you Begin The System Requirements are: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Intel Core 2 Duo / 2.93 GHz Processor (or equivalent) 4GB of RAM Before beginning the installation of Pocket Inventory on your handheld it is required to download the required installation files from: Pocket Inventory Install Files: http://download2.pcamerica.com/pi/latestrelease/pi-mobile-5andup.zip Note: You must be logged onto your computer as an Administrator with full access rights in order to properly install Pocket Inventory. 2 P a g e
Installation of the Required Server Features and Roles 1. Select Start then select Control Panel and finally select Add or Remove Programs. 2. Select Add/Remove Windows Components. 3 P a g e

Installation of SQL 2008 Express If you will be installing Pocket Inventory on the computer running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard then it is REQUIRED to manually install SQL 2008 Express prior to the install of CRE using the correct files below: 32bit Operating System SQL 2008 (32bit) o http://download2.pcamerica.com/components/sqlexpr_x86_enu.exe 64bit Operating System SQL 2008 (64bit) o http://download2.pcamerica.com/components/x64/sqlexpr_x64_enu.exe Note: If SQL was already installed some programs will need to be uninstalled. Please see: Pocket Inventory Troubleshooting SQL Server Requirement Failure If you are presented with this screen (pictured left), click the link, download and install the file. 1. Open the SQL 2008 Installation file. 2. Select New installation or add features to an existing installation under the Installation section. 6 P a g e

Installing CRE/RPE Insert the CRE/RPE CD into the CD-ROM drive. Note: The Installer for CRE can be downloaded from: For 32Bit installations http://download2.pcamerica.com/cre_setup.exe For 64Bit installations http://download2.pcamerica.com/cre_setup_x64.exe Open the CRE/RPE Installation file. 1. Before installing CRE/RPE the installer will scan for Microsoft.NET Framework 3.0 and Microsoft SQL Server Express which are prerequisites for the CRE/RPE install if they are not present you will get prompted. If you are prompted to install SQL 2008 then there may have been an issue with the installation, select Cancel and go to the Installation of SQL 2008 Express section of this guide. 2. 3. After all prerequisites have been installed the CRE installer should automatically launch and bring you to the next step. 4. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, then select Next. 5. Select Install to begin the installation. 6. After the install has completed select Finish to exit the wizard. 16 P a g e
Configuration of CRE/RPE 1. Open CRE/RPE (icon should be located on the desktop). 2. Select Next to begin the configuration process. You will be asked a series of questions that will determine how your system is installed. 17 P a g e
3. CRE/RPE will prompt you to select your industry type. Select A Corporate Office for a Chain of Stores or Restaurants ONLY IF this computer is an office computer in your corporate office (not an office computer in a restaurant). If this is a retail establishment, select A Retail Store. Otherwise, choose A Fine Dining Restaurant with Table Service or a Quick Service Restaurant with Counter Service depending on your type of restaurant. Select Configure This Computer to start a NEW database. To try using one of the sample databases select Try Out a Sample Database. Only select Use Advanced Configuration under the direction of technical support. Note: To setup a Store Server you will need to choose the appropriate Store ID by highlighting it. In addition, you need to select a Station ID. You will then need to specify the Station Role: Standard This is the most commonly used station role. This station role will act as a normal cash register so that transactions can be performed. DriveThru This role is used where a Drive Thru will be used. You must have an internet connection to register your software or call your customer service representative to guide you through the manual registration process. 9. Setting Up an Encryption Key 1. Select Yes when prompted to update your encryption password. 2. Provide the administrator password and select OK. 3. Installing and Configuring Windows Mobile Device Center To install Windows Mobile Device Center either on a 32 bit or 64 bit environment, Internet access is required. The operating system installed on your computer will determine which file to select to install SQL Server Compact: If your computer is in a 32 bit environment open SSCEServerTools_x86-ENU.msi. SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 Configuration 1. Select Start. 2. Select All Programs. 3. Select Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5. 4. Select Configure Web Synchronization Wizard. 5. Select Do not show this starting page again. 6. Select Next. 32 P a g e
7. Select SQL Server Compact. 8. Select Next. 9. Enter the name of the computer running IIS. 10. Select Create a new virtual directory. 11. In the PI_Install folder there are three pocket inventory install files. The operating system on your handheld will determine which of these three files you will need to use. If when trying to install the application you receive error 2689 the following operations can be performed to resolve the issue: 1. Right click the application and select Run as administrator (if that option is not available then please see the next option). 2. Right click the application and select Troubleshoot Compatibility (if this does not fix the issue then see the next option). 3. Temporarily disable User Account Control (UAC). Select Start, type user accounts, and select Enter. o o In Windows Vista - Select Turn User Account Control on or off and uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer, then select OK. In Windows 7 - Select Change User Account Control Settings and move the slider to Never Notify, then select OK. 4. For each component that will be installed including: pcamerica PocketInventory Microsoftr SQL Client 2.0 SQLServerCompact 3.5 Core SQLServerCompact 3.5 Repl Symbol Managed Class Libraries You may be prompted where to install the application, select Device then select Install. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager. 4. Open SQL Server Network Configuration 5. Select Protocols for PCAMERICA. 6. Right click TCP/IP and select Properties. 41 P a g e
7. Select the IP Addresses tab. 8. Under IPAll: Remove any information for TCP Dynamic Port. For TCP Port enter 32001. 9. Select Apply. 10. Select OK. 11. *NOTE* The Remote Server Name, Remote Database Name, User Name, and Password in the Main Computer Tab of Pocket Inventory MUST be identical to the fields in the database settings in Cash Register Express of the computer that Pocket Inventory is connecting to. 8. On the handheld enter the following information: Remote Server Name: - The name of the server computer (with the database). Remote Server Port: - Enter 32001. Remote Database Name: - The name of the database on the server computer. User Name: - Enter the default sa. Password: - Enter the default pcamer1ca. Note: These are the default settings and may not be correct in each environment. 9. Select the Handheld tab. 10. Make any of the following selections: Display UPC-A Check Digit Display CODE-39 Check Digit Drop First Barcode Digit Beep On Scan Speed Scan when Counting Prompt eaches or cases Auto-sync after ActiveSync finishes 51 P a g e
11. Select the Other tab. 12. Make Sure the Store ID matches the store ID of your store. In most cases the Store ID will be entered as 1001. 13. Enter your Company Name. 14. Select the Departments tab. 15. Highlight the departments you would like to edit inventory from on the handheld then select the > (single arrow) pointing to Selected Departments to bring the departments over. To filter all of the Departments over select the >> (double arrows) pointing to Selected Departments. 16. When done filtering your departments select Options then select Save. 52 P a g e

Select Menu then select Receive Changes from CRE. *NOTE* When you click on Receive changes from CRE Pocket Inventory will synchronize with the Cash Register Express Database for the first time. 18. When synchronization has completed you will be asked to login. Note: Employee permissions will need to be configured to access pocket inventory, for more information on configuring employee permissions please see the following document located at http://faq.pcamerica.com: Employee Permission Descriptions Now that CRE is synced with your handheld, be sure to select the appropriate handheld type (Windows Mobile / Pocket PC) on Page 2 of the Hardware tab of Setup Screen. This will ensure that Inventory Track Express works correctly. Refer to the document entitled Pocket Inventory Usage Guide on http://faq.pcamerica.com for usage instructions. 53 P a g e
Pocket Inventory Troubleshooting SQL Server Requirement Failure After determining that the required components of SQL Server are not installed we will need to do a backup of the CRE/RPE database then uninstall and reinstall SQL Server with the replication components. 1. Open CRE/RPE. 2. Select File then Database Maintenance and finally select Backup Database. 3. Enter your credentials and select OK. 4. Select the location to save the backup to. 5. Enter the file name (it is recommended to use the date), and select Save. 6. Select OK. 7. Exit CRE/RPE. 54 P a g e
