EDITORIAL Dear customers and business partners of Schrack Seconet AG, Paper is an everyday commodity. We use it to wrap goods. We use it for printing important documents. We use it to read the latest news. But above all, the paper industry is one thing for Austria: an important economic factor. We can count ourselves lucky to find the ideal conditions for producing paper here in Austria. Forests, water and, most of all, the required know-how, are the cornerstones of this branch of industry. Products, such as bogus paper, wrappings or sanitary articles are in demand worldwide. Austria exports 85% of its paper products. Therefore we are very proud that important paper-producing companies opt for systems and solutions made by Schrack Seconet. In our times, no company anywhere in the world may claim to be able to do altogether without paper, even though the World Wide Web has proven to be a valuable complement to paper. There is hardly another medium that has changed our lives as much as the Internet during the past 20 years. We are using the Internet for information and for communication. We order tickets online, we are able to transfer money fast and easily, and we use it to get information about the products and services of a company. A website, therefore, is an indispensable showroom of a company, for many visitors are judging its professionalism and trustworthiness simply from the homepage. This is why continuous development is an absolute must. Therefore I am glad that very soon I will be able to present to you our new website in a totally new design. A lot of service functions, convenient downloads and useful tools will be available to you. Yours, Wolfgang Kern IMPRINT: Editor, owner, publisher: SCHRACK SECONET AG, Security and Communication Systems, Eibesbrunnergasse 18, A-1120 Vienna responsible for the contents: Schrack Seconet AG, Rosa Maria Seilerbeck, Tel.: +43-1-81157-0*, Fax: +43-1-81157-222, office@schrack-seconet.com, www.schrackseconet.com layout: Atelier Mayer text: Schrack Seconet AG, Lang & Tomaschtik Communications production: Edelbacher Druck Ges.m.b.H. place of publication: Vienna. Reliable protection for your employees Due to the increasing use of technology in our working lives and the growing number of individual workstations the protection of employees is getting more necessary. The use of personal alarm systems, therefore, is becoming a central issue for responsible companies and more important than ever before. Schrack Seconet, therefore, has taken up personal alarm systems in its portfolio. The systems have been designed especially for employees working at individual workstations and/or in dangerous environments and are necessary to reliably protect these employees. Individuals who work out of the viewing and calling range of other people and who may even handle hazardous substances and/or perform dangerous work are equipped with convenient devices which can be used for triggering an alarm in case of danger. This alarm may be triggered either manually or automatically. While the manual alarm can be triggered by pressing a button or by selecting prestored telephone numbers, the automatic alarm can be a position alarm, a nomovement alarm or a time alarm, depending on the respective situation. The new personal alarm systems operate using GSM and/or GPS, which makes the precise localization of the individual concerned possible with an accuracy of 3 meters. On request, also a radio system can be provided for interior use. In the framework of an information event of the Austrian Workers Compensation Board, AUVA, in May this year, Schrack Seconet has presented the personal alarm systems together with Felsenmeer, the manufacturer of the systems, and was able to attract the attention of interested parties and win new contacts. In particular for branches like forestry and agriculture, but also for industrial enterprises, the chemical industry or security services, as well as small enterprises, the use of such systems makes sense and/or is necessary. For example Linde Gas in Hungary worried about the safety of their employees, for whom the handling of hazardous gases is an everyday routine. Therefore they have decided to use the reliable personal alarm systems from Schrack Seconet. But also in Austria many companies put their trust in these systems. We are certain that the number of companies for whom protection of employees becomes more important is on the rise and that in future many lives will be saved thanks to personal alarm systems. Integral over SecoNEWS INFO RemoteMessage flexible, convenient, efficient Thanks to IP technology we are able to provide our customers with another convenient feature, which enables them to better control the state of their fire alarm systems and, therefore, to become even more efficient: The new and autonomous software RemoteMessage reliably and immediately transmits any requested information from all connected fire alarm panels to one or several PC workstations. In particular if several fire alarm systems, which sometimes are located far apart, are monitored from one workstation, RemoteMessage offers the decisive advantage: The messages are automatically and directly sent from the connected fire alarm systems to a server, which then forwards them to the respective PC workstations and, by means of pop-up messages, reliably and immediately provides those in charge with the required information. But our customers not only profit from this independent and fast information path: Immediately after arrival of the message they can directly connect and call-up the fire-alarm panel which transmitted the fault or alarm message via the virtual PC control field Integral VirtualMAP and retrieve more detailed information, according to their needs. In this way the problem can be analysed anywhere on the premises and the situation can be assessed in the best possible way, like, for example, whether and how many people are required on site to solve the problem, which materials or tools are necessary for solving it, etc. RemoteMessage not only makes fast and reliable notification possible at any time and any site, thus offering what is needed for fast and clear decision-making, but also helps to Fast information & convenient access reduce unnecessary trips to the panels and to speed-up processes, thus cutting down costs. Of course, RemoteMessage can be integrated into existing fire alarm systems any time later as well, so that our customers can always profit from the benefits of the new software. The software featuring all these benefits is scheduled to be launched in autumn this year. René Türk Product Manager for Fire Alarm Panels Karl Grabherr WORLDWIDE 3

SecoPROJECT INNOVATION Open Air Museum Petronell: Historical site optimum protection Southern flair, Mediterranean joie-de-vivre and exciting events on an area of more than six hectares, the Open Air Museum Petronell allows a fascinating glimpse of the everyday lives of ancient Romans. Step by step the former flourishing Danube metropolis Carnuntum has been brought to a new life. The houses were reconstructed using ancient craftsmanship to make the outcome as authentic as possible. Visitors may stroll through the lavish gardens, the town quarters, which were reconstructed true to the original, and they may even visit a grand, inhabitable town villa. The under-floor heating and the still functioning stoves in the buildings are impressive testimonials of the progressive thinking of the Romans. A particular highlight is a Roman public bath, complete with a changing room, a hot bath, a steam bath and a cold water basin. In 2011, more than half a million people visited the Open Air Museum in Petronell. Of course this testimonial of accessible history has to be well protected. Schrack Seconet has equipped the Open Air Museum with Roman thermal bath Apodyterium Home of Lucius an Integral C fire alarm panel and 140 smoke detectors. An alarm system and motion detectors, a great number of glass-break detectors, as well as a CCTV-system protect the premises from intrusion and theft. @Atelier OlschinskyArchàolog. Kulturpark NÖ Betriebs GmbH @Atelier OlschinskyArchäolog. Kulturpark NÖ Betriebs GmbH Highest protection for Budapest metro lines With its wonderful nouvelle art buildings, its charming coffee houses, the hip shopping malls and the grand public baths, Budapest, the elegant metropolis on the Danube, really lives up to its reputation of being the Paris of the East. Here, where tradition is alive but a modern, pulsating city still has developed, the world s second-oldest metro line was built. The millennium metro line, also called M1, was inaugurated in 1896, on the occasion of the 1000 years celebration, by Austrian Emperor and King of Hungary Francis Joseph I. Today, Budapest has three metro lines in operation. To provide the highest possible safety, the authorities in Budapest have chosen fire alarm systems from Schrack Seconet. In the eleven stations of metro line 2, Integral MX fire alarm panels as well as 3,500 loop subscribers are employed. Currently Schrack Seconet is equipping another metro line, the M4, which is scheduled to be opened for public transport in the spring of 2014, with high-tech fire alarm systems. Particularly elongated constructions, such as metro lines, profit from the operating mode of the 15 fullyredundant fire alarm panels Integral IP MX. The two graphical SecoLOG operation control systems, which are used for central indication and operation of the fire alarm system, offer the highest-possible reliability. BKV Zrt. 4 SECURITY

@Kremslehner Viennese charm meets high tech The family-owned Kremslehner hotel group was founded in 1896 with the establishment of Hotel Regina, situated opposite Votive Church. In 1927, Graben Hotel was acquired and, finally, in 1931, Hotel Royal. Since October 2011 also Johann Strauss Hotel is part of the renowned hotel group. Today the company is run by the 4th generation of the family. All hotels are located just a few minutes from the most famous sights of Vienna and the shopping boulevard Kärntner Strasse. The four hotels combine high-class, elegant Viennese flair with all modern conveniences. Therefore it was very important to integrate fire alarm systems that blend smoothly with the elegant interior design of the building. For some decades now Kremslehner Hotels have opted for security systems from Schrack Seconet. The central trademark of all the developments of the high tech company is the backward compatibility of the systems. In the course of extensions and/or renovations of buildings, existing fire detectors of the first generation together with stateof-the-art detector technology were connected to the new, more powerful fire alarm panel fire protection now again complies with the current regulations. @Kremslehner VISOCALL IP for Italian hospital In Paderno Dugnano, Province Milano, the San Carlo Hospital is currently being refurbished. On an area of 17,000 square meters a hospital concept is developed that boasts medical treatment on the highest level, functional architecture as well as all kinds of conveniences. In order to guarantee smooth hospital workflows, the new construction will be equipped with the latest technology. The communication system VISOCALL IP from Schrack Seconet offers both a high level of reliability and convenience and fast and efficient information sharing. With its specific and individual solutions it provides a seamless communication network between all individuals on the premises, no matter where they are. Another aspect that tipped the balance in favor of this multimedia communication platform for the operators of the hospital was the system s modularity. This is an essential feature, as the integration of different services, like TV, internet access, telephone or the retrieval of medical records from the data network is planned for the near future. The opening of the San Carlo Hospital is scheduled for autumn 2012. WORLDWIDE 5

Fire alarm systems for the paper industry 6 SECURITY

SecoCOVER SPECIAL From newspapers to posters, handkerchiefs or books life without paper is inconceivable for us. Each Austrian citizen uses 255 kg a year, with an upward tendency. In Europe alone 22 billion rolls of toilet paper are used up annually. With this amount of paper you could wrap the Earth 12,000 times. Particularly for companies in the paper industry it is of great importance not to neglect professional fire protection. Not only raw materials, such as pulp and recovered paper, run a high risk of catching fire but also production machines as well are extremely susceptible to fires. WORLDWIDE 7

Factory premises of W. Hamburger GmbH W. Hamburger GmbH Smooth workflows by stateof-the-art technology Paper was invented some 2,000 years ago in China. The Chinese paper makers were searching for an alternative to the common expensive writing materials made from silk and heavy bamboo wood. They succeeded in producing relatively homogenous sheets from old rags, fishnets and the bast fibres of the mulberry tree. Paper a high-tech product What was once a troublesome and timeconsuming procedure today is done by high-efficiency machines, which produce up to 200 meters of paper a minute. The original materials as well were replaced Paper an important economic factor by fibres, such as cellulose and recovered paper. Paper has become a high-tech product and a crucial economic factor. We have 23 production sites in Austria, with an output of some five million tons annually. About 8 000 people are employed in this branch of business. Education, research and training, therefore, are very important. In particular in the environmental sector this industry is setting new standards. The high extent of autonomous production of power and heat together with a high share of biogenic fuels among them wood residuals, brines, slurries, as well as bark make these Austrian companies trailblazers in a CO 2 -friendly industry. State-of-the-art fire protection for Austria s paper industry To meet the increasing demands not only high-level research is indispensable but also the continuous improvement of technical equipment. SCA Hygiene Products GmbH, Austria s leading supplier and producer of sanitary papers, based in Pernitz, Lower Austria, therefore is counting on the know-how of Schrack Seconet. The company premises are monitored with Integral panels, which are redundantly interconnected by serial data interfaces, thus providing the highest level of protection. State-of-the-art sprinkler systems, more than 2,000 fire detectors as W. Hamburger GmbH well as radio detectors, linear smoke detectors and smoke aspiration systems, and specific EX-fire detectors for monitoring areas with high explosion hazard provide optimum fire protection. DS Smith Packaging Austria in Margarethen am Moos, a leading supplier of customized wrapping solutions, is yet another company that puts its trust in the safety and security experts of Schrack Seconet. Production halls, storeroom and offices have been equipped with about 500 fire detectors, as well as Maxima and Integral panels, which are connected by data-serial interfaces. Another important paper industry location is W. Hamburger GmbH in Pitten, a leading Euorpean manufacturer of high-value bogus paper. In particular the automatic paper roll storage, with its capacity of 14,000 tons of bogus paper, poses a very high risk of fire. All in all, the production site is protected by 16 fully redundant interconnected Integral fire alarm panels. It was a particularly great challenge to actuate the more than 40 extinguishing sectors by the innovative Integral extinguishing control panels. In addition also 1100 fire detectors as well as 50 partly highly-sensitive smoke aspiration systems were installed. W. Hamburger GmbH also has its own data center, which is located in a separate building. Highly advanced early-detection systems as well as another Integral fire alarm panel provide for seamless 8 SECURITY

SecoCOVER Sappi Gratkorn Sappi SPECIAL Smurfit Kappa Smurfit Kappa Czech GmbH in Brno Moraviapress AG in Břeclav Intelligently interconnected fire-alarm systems monitoring. A central control station, which is integrated in the Schrack system of fire alarm panels, takes care of a perfect all-over view in case of an incident and makes a fast intervention of the fire brigade possible. Sappi Gratkorn GmbH as well goes for the top systems from Schrack Seconet. In the manufacturing sectors, i.e. paper mill, pulp mill and wood yard, next to transformers and turbines, in all electronic and cable compartments as well as in the offices a total of 4,300 fire detectors, divided into 15 subpanels, have been installed. Due to the high temperatures and the high humidity, conditions at the sorting-out conveyor bands of the paper machines are quite difficult. Therefore some of the detectors had to be equipped with additional housings and air-cooling. Apart from the usual ancillary services, such as the closing of fire doors and the deactivation of ventilation systems, also the systems and the transport and conveyor systems will be deactivated, in case of an alarm, as required. Czech producers put their trust in Schrack Seconet Also in the Czech Republic three paperproducing companies count on the high-tech systems of the Austrian company. With about 310 employees, Moraviapress AG in Břeclav produces magazines, catalogues, brochures and advertising supplements. The workshop and the warehouses for paper and dyes are protected from fires with 190 fire detectors and one BMZ Compact 32 fire alarm panel. For the packing company Smurfit Kappa Czech GmbH in Brno reliability and functionality is essential. Therefore their premises as well have been equipped with Integral fire alarm panels and 600 fire detectors. Our overall aim is to provide fast and convenient information channels, says Rosa Maria Seilerbeck. In September the new website will be launched and we are looking forward to the feedback of our users. SCHRACK SECONET Smoke aspiration system the specialist for special operations Asmoke aspiration system is a special fire detector which permanently takes air samples from the ambient air and checks it for smoke particles by means of a smoke sensor. In this process even the tiniest smoldering fires are detected fast and reliably. The measuring sensitivity range as well as the accurateness can be set individually. The detector even detects smoke particles that are imperceptible to human beings. The smoke aspiration system is especially suited for detection in extreme ambient conditions, as for example in high rooms and warehouses, shafts and precast hollow floor units, laboratories and clean rooms, as well as on premises with great temperature differences, high humidity, strong air currents and increased amounts of dust and vapors. It is also the detector of choice for the surveillance of switching cabinets, IT installations and server rooms. Since inconspicuous installation is possible, it also meets aesthetical demands. Therefore it perfectly fits the requirements of preventive fire protection in museums and exhibition halls and can be used for any kind of valuable cultural artifacts. GLOSSARY WORLDWIDE 11
