The exflash memry-channel strage is a high-perfrmance slid-state strage device in a standard DIMM frm factr that plugs int existing memry DIMM slts and is directly cnnected t the DDR3 system memry bus. This new technlgy allws supprted IBM System x servers t clse the perfrmance gap in strage I/O and deliver break-thrugh perfrmance fr targeted wrklads, such as analytical wrklads, transactinal databases, and virtualized envirnments. IBM exflash DIMMs ffer significantly lwer latency cmpared t traditinal slid-state devices, such as IBM exflash SSDs and even PCIe SSD adapters. With FlashGuard prtectin, IBM exflash DDR3 Strage DIMMs can be fully rewritten up t ten times per day thrughut their entire five-year life expectancy. Rigrus testing f exflash DDR3 Strage DIMMs by IBM thrugh the IBM ServerPrven prgram ensures a high degree f cnfidence in strage subsystem cmpatibility and reliability. IBM exflash DIMMs have the fllwing key characteristics: Industry standard LP DIMM frm factr supprts standard DDR3 memry DIMM slts n selected System x servers. Uses cst-effective 19 nm MLC NAND technlgy with FlashGuard technlgy fr high read and write perfrmance t fulfill client needs in the enterprise space. High endurance, with up t 10 drive writes per day (DWPD) during a 5-year lifecycle t withstand applicatins with intensive read/write wrklads. Up t 12.8 TB ttal flash memry-channel strage capacity per server. Supprt f up t 1600 MHz DDR memry speeds and the usage f available DDR3 memry channels. Supprt fr intermixing with standard registered memry DIMMs (RDIMMs) n the same memry channel. FlashGuard technlgy extends the native endurance f cmmercial-grade MLC flash memry by using the fllwing features: Aggregated Flash Management Advanced Signal Prcessing Enhanced Errr Crrectin DataGuard technlgy prtects against data crruptin and lss by using the fllwing features: Full data path prtectin Flexible Redundant Array f Memry Elements (F.R.A.M.E.) data recvery algrithm EverGuard technlgy prtects data in the event f unplanned pwer utages. Slid-state strage has a huge but finite number f prgram/erase (P/E) cycles, which affects hw lng it can perfrm write peratins and thus its life expectancy. Slid-state device write endurance is typically measured by the number f prgram/erase cycles that the device can incur ver its lifetime, which is listed as Ttal Bytes Written (TBW) r Drive Writes Per Day (DWPD) in the device specificatin. The TBW value that is assigned t a slid-state device is the ttal bytes f written data that a drive can be guaranteed t cmplete. Reaching this limit des nt cause the drive t immediately fail; the TBW simply dentes the maximum number f writes that can be guaranteed. A slid-state device des nt fail upn reaching the specified TBW, but at sme pint after surpassing the TBW value (and based n manufacturing variance margins), the drive reaches the end-f-life pint, at which time the drive will g int read-nly mde. Because f such behavir, careful planning must be dne when yu use SSDs in applicatin envirnments t ensure that the TBW f the drive is nt exceeded befre the required life expectancy is reached.
