October 13 - Bottled Water Exports and Imports continue to grow! Annualised exports for the year to October 13 continue an upwards climb following their break through NZD1m last month. Leading markets remain the US (%) and Australia (%). Other emerging markets (and annualised FOB value) include: China (1M), UAE (73K) and Hong Kong (398K). Annualised exports to China have again topped NZD1M for the first time since August 1. Encouragingly, the average value per litre of around NZD1.15/L is also climbing. In association with an appreciation in the NZD against the Chinese Yuan, this suggests China is placing a premium on brand New Zealand. Bottled Water Imports Strongly Correlated to the Economy Bottled water imports are strongly correlated to performance of the domestic economy. Movements in the measure of GDP (gross domestic product), expressed as annual percentage change, tend to lead imports by around five quarters (15 months).
