Translating Europe Workshops COUNTRY ACTIVITY DATES & PARTNERS PARTNERS DESCRIPTION Italy Professions Fair, Milan Before March 2015 EUNIC Milan Cluster Teachers Associations (LEND, Linguistica e Nuova Didattica; TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other s; etc.) Translators associations (A.I.T.I., etc.) Federlingue (network of translation Conference on translator employability professionals) Working title: Translating Europe Forum Conference on Translating and labelling for Europe's future in the run-up to Expo 2015 Milan: Expo Milano 2015 is a World or Universal exposition. It will take place in Milan from 1 May to 31 October 2015 under the theme "Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life". Food represents a building block of the EU economy. Italy is the 3th largest food and drinks manufacturer in the EU and Italy s food and drinks industry is the country s second-largest manufacturing sector. One obstacle to conquering new markets is the translation of the food labels. Some companies had difficulties in finding high quality translators on the translation market, with competencies in the food sector. In the Framework of EXPO2015 Rome FO is planning to organise a Conference-Workshop with the participation of buyers of translation services (Milan Chamber of Commerce, UnionAlimentari, an Association of SMEs of the Food Sector) and Providers of translation services (Translators associations (A.I.T.I., etc.), Federlingue (network of translation Conference on translator employability professionals). Latvia Seminar on the future of language professions October or 2014 Translation (and interpreting?) professionals, their employers, education establishments teaching translation Target audience: Translation professionals, their employers (translation agencies, EU institutions), academia (EMT universities and other education establishments in Latvia teaching translation). It is often heard in Latvia that the education system does not prepare the specialists the industry needs. Could translation industry be an exception? Should the standards be raised to facilitate employability of the graduates, or are they "ready" when they leave education

establishments? Agenda of the day: First part of the day, presentations: EU translation services (DGT), translation agencies, universities, tools developers, someone from "translator side". Second part of the day, workshops: We could split into groups and try to discuss a "profile of the future translator": skills that will be needed and possibly a recommendation for updated curriculum for the universities Greece The future of language professions 8 2014 in Piraeus The Department of International and European Studies, School of Economics, Business and International Studies, University of Piraeus Objective: To discuss and analyse some of the most important issues facing this field (e.g. translation studies and professional perspectives, certification and remuneration of translators, translation to and from less widespread languages, terminological tools and networks, the Greek language in the context of the international multilingual system, teaching and learning foreign languages) and to propose, after discussion, some practical solutions. The conference aims at gathering representatives from all the language professions: 1. Translators from the wider public sector, EU Institutions, translation and interpretation companies, freelance translators of technical and literary texts, interpreters as well as people dealing with subtitling and dubbing. 2. Terminologists and people dealing with the relevant tools. 3. Computational linguists, constructors or representatives of translation tools (software, internet services) available in the Greek market and aggregators of translation data. 4. Professors and teachers (of foreign languages, translation, interpretation) and their students. 5. Scientists from all the disciplines dealing with translation and terminology issues. Conference themes: 1. European Union and the future of translation and terminology. 2. Literary translation and book edition.

3. tools and the future of the Greek language. 4. skills and the job market. 5. Greek in the audio-visual, interconnected ecosystem of the 21st century. 6. Translation and interpretation for migrants. 7. Translator/Interpreter certification, recognition of professional qualifications, remuneration.
