ASBESTOS STILL Chartered KILLS WHY CHOOSE BOHS ASBESTOS QUALIFICATIONS? Society BOHS is the only occupational hygiene organisation with a Royal Charter. The Royal Charter, granted in April 2013, recognises BOHS unique and pre-eminent role as the leading authority in occupational disease prevention. Royal Charters are rarely granted, and are only available to professional bodies or charities with a long standing record of achievement. In order to obtain chartered status, the professional body must represent a unique field of activity which is not covered by other professional bodies, and at least 75% of the corporate members should be qualified to first degree level. In addition to the recognition of achievement in its field, the Royal Charter also means that BOHS is the only occupational hygiene organisation to offer the opportunity to achieve Chartered Occupational Hygiene* status through its professional development route. WE RE SETTING THE STANDARDS * Chartered Occupational Hygiene status can be achieved via a number of routes and is dependent on specific Occupational Hygiene qualification criteria. WE RE SETTING THE STANDARDS Industry Standard The BOHS P400 series of qualifications in asbestos are industry-leading, and are recognised by the HSE and UKAS. Widely acknowledged as the gold standard, they give professionals the competitive edge: holders of BOHS asbestos qualifications have proven their ability to provide sound authoritative advice on the identification of health hazards and the adequacy of controls in the working environment. Additionally, the qualifications are protected by trademark to BOHS. International Leadership in Asbestos BOHS and its members have been providing national and international leadership on protection against asbestos since the 1960s. They have published methods of asbestos dust control, and produced an exposure standard for chrysotile. BOHS-published research papers have been fundamental in quantifying the risks of asbestos, and lie behind many of the measurement methods adopted worldwide. The Society also produced codes of practice on clearance testing and bulk sampling, whilst its competency standards form the basis of current requirements for surveyors, analysts, laboratory staff and managers. BOHS is the leading UK awarding body for qualifications in occupational hygiene. The BOHS Faculty of Occupational Hygiene sets, develops and maintains the professional standards of occupational hygienists. Internationally recognised, BOHS is the only UK-based examining board for qualifications in occupational hygiene. BOHS facilitates access to a global network of Approved Training Providers, and presents the opportunity to achieve valuable qualifications to enhance career progression. Over 45,000 BOHS asbestos qualifications have been undertaken to date.
