It works like this: Gather together with three (or more) Alverno students. Show up at the performance site (Pitman Theatre or Wehr Hall) half an hour prior to the show. Show your current student ID at the Box Office. Receive a free ticket to that show. Please note that this offer is available only to currently enrolled Alverno students. MSN Students A reminder that Preceptor Preference forms are due to Leah Sorenson by December 1. A reminder of some curricular changes: Students in MSN 601 or MSN 620: if you have not taken the other course, you must take it in spring 2014, as that is the last time it will be offered. If you have not taken either MSN 601 or MSN 620, you will instead register for MSN 615 and/or MSN 616. Please see your advisor if you have questions. Upcoming Events, cont d Cans Across the Conference The Alverno Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is once again initiating the annual Cans Across the Conference Food Drive Competition. As three-time defending champs, we thank you for your past support and generosity and we hope to continue our success. Last year we collected 25,284 items Can we do it again? So many ways to contribute: -Drop off nonperishable food items or toiletries in Alverno Athletics or in bins around campus -Give cans to the Mandarin Orange Drive -Buy a Thanksgiving dinner in the Commons for a needy Milwaukee family -Make a cash donation to Alverno Athletics with a notation that it is for Cans Across the Conference ($1 = 2 items) If anyone is interested in starting a drive off campus, please let us know how we can help. Alverno College is not responsible for lost or stolen items. AUGUST GRADUATES August graduates march in the December Commencement following their graduation date. Diplomas are available the week following the August graduation date pending satisfaction of all financial obligations and completion of coursework. The name of the graduate appears on the commencement program with a footnote indicating the official graduation date. Graduates not participating in the commencement ceremony should contact the Registrar s Office. PHOTOGRAPHS Empire Photography will photograph you as you receive your diploma and hood. There is no cost to have the photos taken. Alverno College will supply Empire Photography with home mailing addresses and Alverno email addresses of all graduates. Empire will send notification to Alverno email addresses once the photos are available for viewing. You may order pictures by mail, fax, or online. Orders are processed and shipped directly to the graduates. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS All financial obligations and/or holds must be taken care of before graduation. Your transcript and diploma are withheld if bills are not paid. GRADUATION FEE The Graduation Fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee that is added to your account when you apply for graduation. The fee is to be paid to the Business Office regardless of whether or not you plan to participate in the ceremony. TRANSCRIPTS & NARRATIVES The transcript form is online at at alverno.edu/registrar/forms/ Standard Service: 24-48 hours. $5 per transcipt. Rush: Same day. $10 per transcript. As part of your transcript you also receive a narrative, which is an evaluation of your overall academic achievement. The narratives can take up to six months or longer to receive. You will receive an unofficial copy of your transcript and narrative once the narrative statement is completed. Specify one of the following when requesting narratives: Transcripts should be mailed immediately upon request with the narrative to follow Transcripts should be held until the narrative is received The narrative is not needed and transcripts should be sent If the transcripts are sent with the narrative to follow or are held for the narrative, a priority rush will be put on the narrative. It may take a week to a month or more to receive. *The graduation date does not appear on transcripts until the Monday following graduation. The Hong Kong Institute of Education Graduate School Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2014/15 Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2009, the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme has brought over three hundred top students from around forty countries/regions to Hong Kong to undertake PhD studies in our world-class research institutions in various fields. For the September 2014/15 intake, we are now looking for talented people who wish to pursue their PhD studies in the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2014/15. About the award The Fellowship will provide an annual stipend of HK$240,000 (approx. US$30,000) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approx. US$1,300) per year up to three years. Who can apply Candidates seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the eight institutions in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong Institute of Education, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience, and ethnic background. Candidates from across the board (for example, in the arts and social sciences, humanities, education studies, languages) are welcome to apply. Selection Criteria While academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates: i. Academic excellence; ii. Research ability and potential; iii. Communication, and interpersonal skills; and iv. Leadership abilities.
