Gordon Ford College of Business Summer Research Grants Program Program Description Purpose The Gordon Ford Summer Research Grant Program is established to support the Mission of the College by providing funding to fulltime faculty members in the Gordon Ford College for the successful engagement and completion of high quality research activities. GFCB Summer Research Grants are competitively awarded based on a review of project proposals. Nature of the Grants There are two types of Summer Research Grants (SRG). Aim High and General. These grants are to support research activity and production by the fulltime faculty members in the Gordon Ford College. Both grants offer the faculty member the option of taking the grant amount as salary stipend, professional development (PD) funding, or a combination of both. Grant funding will be distributed to the awardees by June 15 of each year. TIER 1 General SRGs are for $5,000. $1,000 of this grant will be withheld until the awardee has submitted a complete publication ready version of the research paper to the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research in accordance with the time line of the policy. TIER 2 Aim High SRGs will be up to $10,000. Aim High SRGs require that the proposer explicitly make the goal of the research project publication in one of the peer-reviewed journals listed on one of the departmental lists of top applied journals. To support this, each department will submit a list of the top 2 or 3 applied journals in the each of the disciplines in the department to the GFCB Research Excellence Committee. Each department will also supply indicators why each journal qualifies as being among the top 2 or 3 journals and how each journal matches the applied mission of the college. Lists may be modified by the GFCB Research Excellence Committee based upon the recommendations of the department. Eligibility All fulltime faculty members are eligible including executives in residence, endowed professors, and department chairs. Faculty are eligible regardless of other current commitments and awards, participation in university or other grant programs, and/or the acceptance and timing of research grants in previous years. All SRG project proposals must be received by the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Research no later than 4:30 pm on March 15, or the first working day after March 15 if the due date falls on a weekend, to be eligible for either of the SRGs. Co-Proposers Only one grant will be awarded for each research project. Multi-proposer projects are acceptable with the grant award divided among the co-proposers based upon a specified share ratio (such as 50-50%, 100-0% or other %) indicated by the lead investigator on the proposal form. An individual may be a coproposer on more than one project, but any proposer may not receive more than a total of $5,000 for all proposals for the General SRGs or for $10,000 for Aim High SRGs during one annual grant cycle. Awards in Consecutive Years All fulltime faculty members are eligible to be considered for receiving these grants each year regardless of their participation and success in obtaining grants in previous or consecutive years. Grant Application A grant application must be completed according to the Proposal Guidelines and submitted to the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Research (GPR) on or before the deadline given above. Major considerations in evaluating these proposals for funding are proposal quality, expected impact of the project outcomes, and the documented outcomes and publication success resulting from previous grants. For Aim High SRGs, the explicit intended outcome of the project must be to publish in a journal on the list of top applied journals as created by the Research Excellence Committee. Grant Proposal Evaluation The submitted grant proposals will be evaluated and ranked in terms of quality and impact by the college s Research Excellence Committee. Project grant awards will then be made by the Gordon Ford Administrative Council (GFAC) in consideration of that ranking and evaluation. Summer Grant Program Timeline Project proposals due to Associate Dean of Graduate Programs & Research (GPR) March 15 Project rankings completed by the Research Committee and provided to GFAC: April 15 Project awards made and distributed by GFAC: June 15 1 st Project Progress Report Due to Associate Dean of GPR September 15 2 nd Project Progress Report Due to Associate Dean of GPR February 15 Presentation of project goals, hypotheses, methodology, outcomes or progress to date, lessons learned, etc., to College Faculty: By April 1 Failure to fulfill any of the reporting obligations in the Timeline of the summer grant program permanently makes the proposer(s) ineligible from participating and receiving SRGs from the GFCB in the future.
