1 EVENING MBA The following MBA Concentrations are only available for those students declaring a concentration BEFORE October 21, Students may select from the following MBA Concentrations. Students are limited to taking no more than a total of two of the following field-based learning courses: Global Business Experience (), Credit Internship or Field-Based Directed Study. All courses are 3 credits unless otherwise noted. Please check Course Descriptions for course pre-requisites. Not all electives are offered every semester. Please review the Projected Course Offering List to map out a plan to complete your degree requirements. For assistance with your concentration course selections contact the designated Concentration Adviser. Evening MBA Program Requirements A total of eight electives are required. At least one 4-course concentration must be chosen. Your total program may not include more than 4 electives from one Academic Discipline. If two concentrations are selected, courses that appear in more than one concentration may count toward both concentrations but will not reduce the total number of electives required for the degree. Students who do not select a second concentration need to complete the remaining 4 electives by selecting courses from the Graduate School curriculum which are open to EMBA students and for which they satisfy the pre-requisites. 1 P a g e

2 MBA: ACCOUNTANCY CONCENTRATION Adviser: Donna McConville, The Accountancy Concentration provides students with an exposure to the major areas of accounting, or for those with an accounting background, the concentration offers additional technical training and advanced analytical skills. 3 MBA: BUSINESS ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBIILITY Adviser: Tony Buono, Michael Hoffman The business ethics and social responsibility concentration focuses on enhancing ethical sensitivity and ethical thinking within business contexts, emphasizing the development of knowledge, skills and expertise that are relevant to working with an organizational ethics office or corporate social responsibility program. The concentration features two required courses and two electives. Students have the opportunity to take the Managing Ethics in Organizations course, which is designed for and largely populated by ethics practitioners, and taught by a cadre of faculty, including ethics officers from major corporations. There are also possibilities for internships and field research in business ethics and corporate social responsibility, with the possibility of creating one s own internship/field project. 4 MBA: ECONOMICS AND FINANCIAL MARKETS CONCENTRATION Adviser: David Gulley, The disciplines of economics and finance have a natural relationship to one another, which makes them an outstanding combination within a concentration. Economics provides the fundamental analytical tools to assess business issues and firm strategies. It analyzes forces that determine factors of vital importance to business, such as employment, inflation, interest rates, investment, business fluctuations, and international issues. Finance examines capital and money markets and provides analytical tools to deal with financial changes arising from macroeconomic fluctuations. Finance electives focus on the financial environment of business, the decision-making process of corporations, key principles underlying the investment process, and the expanding international context of financial analysis, portfolio construction, and trading. Economics electives address business decision making, monetary and fiscal policy, inter-firm competition, econometric modeling and forecasting, & international trade & finance. 5 MBA: ENTREPRENEURSHIP Adviser: Fred Tuffile, The concentration focuses on the way entrepreneurs think and develop their ability to find and exploit opportunities. Students learn how to determine and pursue their goals by applying entrepreneurial thinking and behaviors to any business situation. The concentration presents simple frameworks that help students organize their activities over time as they learn to follow the natural entrepreneurial process. The frameworks encompass an understanding of the process of starting and growing a business by linking customer needs to a business model, infrastructure, and resources required. A specific objective of the concentration is to help students develop the core entrepreneurial skills of 1) looking at one s business from the customer s perspective, 2) understanding how to rally people and resources around the entrepreneur s vision, and 3) iterative decision making the process of validating or iterating the critical assumptions made about the customer and business model. 6 MBA: FINANCE CONCENTRATION Adviser: Claude Cicchetti, The Finance concentration is designed to provide a broad understanding of investment and financing related issues in corporate finance, the purpose and functions of financial markets and institutions, appropriate ways to evaluate trade-offs between risk and return and complexities associated with operating in a global economy. Building on a required finance course, students may choose an additional three courses from a series of electives, to build a focus in corporate finance or quantitative financial analysis. There are 12 elective courses to choose from, ranging from Mergers and Acquisitions and International Finance to Equity Valuation, Fixed Income and Derivatives. The concentration provides an education in financial planning, investments, income tax and estate planning while encouraging students to develop their critical skills to enhance this educational experience. The concentration examines the impact of political, legal and cultural forces on global businesses. It studies choices of global strategies and organizational structures. It emphasizes human behavior related to the learning and use of systems, methodologies for collecting user requirements that inform the product design and strategies for evaluating system usability. Through careful examination of the usercentered design lifecycle, strong connections are made to business strategy, project management and the product development cycle. 10 MBA: INFORMATION AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT Adviser: Alina Chircu, The Information and Process Management Concentration consists of one required course in Information Management and one required elective selected from a choice of three and two elective courses from an approved list. The primary audience for this concentration consists of managers and knowledge professionals who want to learn how to create business innovation through the appropriate and effective use of information technology but do not intend to pursue specialist careers in IT. Examples of prospective students include, entrepreneurs, financial specialists with responsibility for financial systems operations, marketing specialists responsible for ecommerce strategy, general managers in global corporations, accountants with an interest in corporate risk management, etc. A secondary audience is IT specialists who are interested in careers in information management. 11 MBA: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Adviser: Wendy Lucas, Bentley is ranked among the top 20 in Management Information Systems in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The information technology concentration focuses on the analysis, design and implementation of IT solutions that provide the highest possible business value. The concentration prepares students for consulting and management positions in IT departments and hightech organizations. The concentration is appropriate for any interested student; no prior technology knowledge is assumed. Students are encouraged to tailor the concentration to fit their interests and goals. In addition to understanding how the product, price, promotion and distribution of a product impacts its image and success among the target market, students gain a thorough appreciation for the value of data in making marketing decisions. Through hands on experience students learn how to identify and collect relevant data, turn the data into useful information, and use that information to establish long term, profitable relationships with their customers. 15 MBA: QUANTITATIVE METHODS FOR BUSINESS DECISIONS Adviser: Dominique Haughton, The concentration in Quantitative Methods for Business Decisions is designed for professionals looking to gain a competitive advantage through the sound use of data resources. The concentration provides a solid grounding in applied statistical methods with emphasis on the use of appropriate software tools. The elective courses give students the opportunity to see how these methods are used in current practice in a particular business area. Exposure to real data takes places in courses in the concentration, in an optional internship, and in other courses in the curriculum where students with quantitative skills often fill vital roles in group consulting projects. 16 MBA: RISK MANAGEMENT Adviser: Donna Fletcher, The Risk Management Concentration exposes students to the risks of today s business environment. Business risks may arise from either internal or external influences and may be more or less under the control of the organization. While nothing we do is risk free, these problems are more likely to occur where there is a lack of management awareness and/or control of the potential risks associated with a particular type of business. A concentration in risk management focuses on safeguarding against these types of risks and on the associated ethical and governance issues that are key to successful risk management. 17 MBA: SERVICE MANAGEMENT AND SCIENCE Adviser: Professor Mark Davis Every organization, be it a manufacturer or a service, for profit or not for profit, has customers with whom it interacts with on a daily basis. In today s highly competitive environment, how a firm interacts with its customers is a major factor in developing loyal customers, who, in turn, determine its long term success. The Service Management and Science concentration focuses on providing students with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and manage the co-creation of value that involves both the firm and the customer in the service delivery process. Courses will introduce students to the theories and concepts of service management and science and demonstrate how they are applied in world class businesses.
