The Power built a 3-0 lead in the first on two singles, a Mel Rojas Jr. triple, and a ground out. The RiverDogs, however, plated two in the second and three in the third to take the lead for good. Gary Sanchez had two home runs and four runs batted in to key the Charleston offense. Zac Fuesser took the loss after allowing five run, only two of which were earned, on five hits over three innings. RETURN OF A ZACK: Zack Dodson was promoted to the Power roster Friday from State College and made his first South Atlantic League start since May. Dodson began the season in the Power rotation, making seven starts before being transferred off the roster on May 13. Dodson went 2-3 over his seven starts with a 3.12 ERA. The southpaw suffered a broken left hand in mid-may and was placed on the Power s Disabled List. He began a rehab assignment in the GCL on June 29, made three appearances, and then made four more with the Spikes in the NYPL. Dodson earned the win over Lakewood on Friday. WALK OF LIFE: West Virginia s pitching staff continues to lead all of baseball with the fewest number of batters walked this year. Power pitchers have combined to walk 267 batters through 113 games. The lowest team total in club history is 346 during the 2010 season, while the league s record low over a 140 game season is 314 by Augusta in 2001. BRING ON THE BABY BOMBERS: West Virginia continues it final series this year against the Charleston RiverDogs with a 7:05 first pitch tonight. The clubs have already played 12 games this season after having only played a total of four times in 2010. West Virginia leads the all-time set 18-14, and the Power have a 8-4 lead at Appalachian Power Park. The New York Yankees SAL affiliate is in Charleston, WV for the second time this season after having not played in West Virginia since 2009. STILL GOING: Mel Rojas Jr. extended his hitting streak to eight games heading with one hit in five at bats last night, while Drew Maggi is currently on a seven game run. Rojas is batting.286 during this stretch, while Maggi has 14 hits over his last 32 at bats during his streak for a.438 clip. Andy Vasquez is also riding a six-game hitting streak into his next game. SEE-SAW SCHEDULE: The final few weeks of the 2011 season will see the Power bounce between home and road series. After this four-game set against Charleston, the Power open a four game series in Kannapolis on August 14. Four days later, they ll host Delmarva for four. After a four day trip to Greensboro starting August 22, the Power open their final homestand of the season; a five game run against Lexington beginning on August 26. The last excursion of the year sends West Virginia to Delmarva over Labor Day weekend. VERGE OF HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 24 career home runs for West Virginia over nearly two seasons in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Stephen Chapman for the most home runs in any player s Power career. Chapman hit a single-season record 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007. Noris, however, has not hit a home run since July 15, a span of 15 games and 60 at bats.
