This guide is intended for the administrators who are responsible for the preliminary setup and for running Setup Commander. Those administrators need to have a thorough understanding of either Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Microsoft Configuration Manager 2012, RES Automation Manager or Dell KACE or any other deployment system being used, Windows, and Windows application management. Overview Setup Commander provides a new way of creating Applications for deployment in a simple and intuitive way. Creating Applications, finding and deploying installation parameters for software which needs to be deployed is one of the most time consuming and troublesome tasks that administrators must undertake to deploy Windows applications. Setup Commander lowers the cost associated with application management by automating the manual steps that have to be repeated for every new application. Setup Commander supports Configuration Manager 2012, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2012 or you can use it as a standalone version if you use RES Automation Manager, Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance or Group Policies for deployment. Chief Architect and Product Developer for Setup Commander is Roel van Bueren of ROVABU Software BV. Roel has worked with Windows Installer technology since it was released with Office 2000 in 1999 and Windows applications and application installers since Windows 3.1. Standard Edition Setup Commander Standard Edition is licensed per AD domain for an unlimited number of machines and administrators. Professional Edition Setup Commander Professional Edition is licensed per AD domain, per registered/managed Windows device. A license is subscription based and granted for a duration of one (1) year. System Requirements Before you run Setup Commander, you need to meet some configuration requirements for your Microsoft Windows devices. Configuration Manager 2012 Microsoft Configuration Management 2012 SP1 is supported. Deployment Toolkit 2012 Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2012 Update 1 is supported. Operating System Setup Commander is supported on the following Windows x64 operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 Microsoft Windows 7 x86 or x64 Microsoft Windows 8 x86 or x64 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 You need Administrative privileges to run Setup Commander. Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Extended Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Extended should be installed. Installation Download Download SetupCommander-setup-1.0.xyz.exe using the download link in the email message you ve received after registration on the registration page of the Setup Commander website. Xyz is the latest build as reported on the support forums of the Setup Commander web site (http://www.setupcommander). Copy the setup to any folder on your Administrator device. Run the setup from there. You can install Setup Commander on multiple Windows Administrator machines in your network if needed. Install Run the setup first. Copyright 2013, ROVABU Software B.V. After the installation, you can select the Launch Setup Commander check box to launch Setup Commander. Upgrade When you want to upgrade to a new build of Setup Commander, just run the new setup. Uninstall To remove Setup Commander, run the setup again and select Remove. You can also use the Windows Control Panel to remove Setup Commander. Copyright 2013, ROVABU Software B.V. Version 1.0.0. Page 14

Launching Use the shortcut on the Start Menu or the desktop to launch Setup Commander and view the Administration Guide. After the initial launch, the Connection screen is displayed automatically. Connection Details Setup Commander has three options in the connection screen. You can either directly connect to either Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2012 or System Center 2012 Configuration Manager or work in Stand alone mode when you use another deployment system to deploy Windows applications. When System Center 2012 Configuration Manager is being used, provide the DNS name or IP address of your Configuration Manager site server: These options will be stored in an XML file in the following location: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ROVABU Software BV\Setup Commander\settings.xml Copyright 2013, ROVABU Software B.V. File System The left panel shows the directories and files of the default directory. You can switch to a different directory by double-clicking a directory. When you right-click a file, Setup Commander gives you these options: - New Application allows you to create an Application in either MDT 2012 or Configuration Manager 2012 out of the selected file. Setup Commander assists and advises you based on the selected file or installer. - If you want to request support for a specific legacy setup that we are not supporting yet, please send us the details by selecting the setup in Setup Commander and then selecting Submit for Analysis. - Change Attributes allows you to change the Read, System, Archive and Hidden file attribute types. - Create Directory creates a subdirectory in the current directory. - Search ITNinja is available for MSI setups only. With this option, you can use the Productname and Productversion of the selected MSI setup to query http://www.itninja.com for more setup and deployment information. As a leading destination for end point administrators to discuss topics related to setup and deployment, ITNinja expands the scope of AppDeploy, adding numerous topics while leveraging its rich application and deployment data. - View is an MSI viewer which you can use to browse through an MSI s tables and rows. - Columns lets you change the visibility of the columns. - Clear Filters lets you remove filters that have been set for one or more columns. - Delete deletes a selected file or selected files. - Refresh updates the current directory and file list. Home Most features in the Main screen are available through the ribbon in the upper part of the screen. Connection Connect connects Setup Commander to a specified MDT share or Configuration Management Site Server Drives The Drives ribbon group lists all available drive letters of your file system. Configuration The Configuration ribbon group lets you configure Setup Commander. Options Use this option to configure the default startup directory and the filter row layout of the grids in the main screen. You can add, remove, and review licenses for Setup Commander. Logfiles When support requests log files for analysis, you can find the Setup Commander log files in the following locations: Reports The Reports ribbon group covers exporting the selected directory or the contents of the selected Applications folder in MDT or Application Folder in Configuration Management 2012 to Excel, PDF, XPS, or TXT format, or to print it to a selected printer. Export Exports a selected directory or a selected Application folder to Excel, Excel 2007/2010/2013, Adobe PDF, Microsoft XPS, or text format. General The General ribbon group lets you check the About settings for updates or to visit the Setup Commander Web site. About The About section includes general remarks about Setup Commander, release notes, and a link to the support forums. Check for updates On startup, Setup Commander automatically checks whether a new build is available. You can also do this manually by using Check for updates. Import Wizards Import MSIs The Generic MSI Import Wizard The generic MSI import Wizard lets you a select a directory in which multiple MSI packages have been stored. The best practice is to have a separate subdirectory per software product. Click the Browse button in the upper left corner of the MSI Import Wizard in order to select the directory with MSI packages you want to import. Use the Property grid to configure how you want the Applications to be created. The Packaging Robot Import Wizard The Packaging Robot Import Wizard is similar to the generic MSI Import Wizard.
