Credential Program Overview Education Specialist Credentials offered: Preliminary Early Childhood Special Education teaching credential eligible to teach children with an IFSP/IEP birth to 5 years of age Preliminary Moderate/Severe teaching credential eligible to teach children with an IEP with moderate to severe disabilities ages 5 years to 22 years Clear Education Specialist Induction Program Clear any preliminary education specialist credential Preliminary credential offered as a two year cohort Internship program A cohort is a group of people sharing common interests and learn together Classes offered in unit modules (quarter system) Ten hours per unit Emphasis on Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)/Natural Environment Inclusive Practices 7
Program Overview Pre requisites for Preliminary Education Specialist Credential (ECSE & Mod/Severe) Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences from an accredited institution Child Development Course (minimum 3 units) Minimum cumulative grade point average 2.75 Principles of US Constitution or exam Pass California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) Meet Commission Approved subject matter requirements as appropriate (Mod/Severe only) 3 letters of recommendations exemplars of: good citizenship, high moral character and experiential background The submission of the application with a statement of purpose A candidate interview for selection 8
Foreign Transcript Evaluation Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees, and other relevant documents prior to applying to the SCCOE Preliminary Intern Credential Program. Documentation of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science must be completed prior to acceptance into SCCOE Program. Please see handout for agencies approved by the commission for foreign transcript evaluation. 9
Course Transfer Equivalency Evaluation of courses and transferability of any course will be evaluated upon receipt of application. Specific course equivalencies require review based upon the unique characteristics of each college and university and may differ from one institution to another. Must submit transcripts and class description for any course in question

Courses Clear Education Specialist Induction The Clear induction program will be offered every other year Participants will complete advanced coursework Professional Learning Community Courses: Reflection in Action* (3 units) Collaboration in Action* (3 units) Curriculum in Action* (3 units) Behavior Support in Action* (3 units) *Non SCCOE activities may be substituted for 1 unit of each course, pending approval 16

Application Process Application packet must be complete to be considered. (unofficial transcripts are allowed for application purposes, official transcripts will be required upon acceptance to program) Application Fee to be included in packet $50.00 non refundable Payment methods by Check or Credit Card (credit card service fee $1.80) Hard copy applications are to be submitted in person or mailed no later than June 30, 2014.
