Minnesota Agent Bulletin June 23, 2006 Enclosed are new manual pages reflecting the changes made to the North Star Personal Auto program. The changes involve some base rate reductions for male drivers age 21-27, changes to the Good Student Discount program and adding a limited amount of Customization coverage to the Personal Auto policy. The Accident Surcharge threshold has been increased from Semi trucks are now eligible to be rated in the same program as the private passenger autos in most situations and a territorial realignment has also been done to the Metro area territories. These changes should make North Star more attractive and more competitive in these areas. The new manual pages for the General Rules section and Supplemental Rate pages for the new territories are included in this mailing. Please review the rule changes below. PA-4 RULE 3 Classification Definitions An additional definition has been added to clarify the rating of an insured that owns more than one vehicle and carries the youthful driving class. They will be rated with the youthful class on the highest rated vehicle and the all other class on the secondary vehicle whether principally operated or not. PA-7 RULE 5 Discounts Added a statement requiring that $15,000 worth of coverage is required on the HO-4 in order to qualify for the Companion Policy Discount. PA-9 RULE 5 Discounts This change allows for the Good Student Discount to remain in effect after the person has graduated from Vocational School, Technical College or a University as long as they were eligible for the discount after their last semester. PA-9 RULE 6 Safe Driver Insurance Plan The threshold for the dollar amount to charge for an at-fault accident has changed from PA-25 RULE 21 Customizing Equipment Coverage $1,000 worth of customizing is now included in the policy, higher amounts of PA-30 RULE 24 Trailers A slight increase in rates as well as offering $1,000 deductible for OTC. PA-31 RULE 28 Policy Period and Continuation Forms will only be sent out when a new policy is issued or when forms are changed PA-35 RULE 39 Eligibility Vehicles driven over 40 miles to work or school are no longer ineligible. PA-41 & 42 Rating Factors Factors for Youthful unmarried single males age 25-27 have been reduced. Factors for Married males PA-43 Premium Determination Semi trucks do not have to be rated in the Select Program, they are eligible for the same class as Private Passenger vehicles as long as no hauling Beets or Potatoes or driven more than 2000 miles annually.
