1 PERSONAL AUTO PP RATING INFORMATION NEW JERSEY Your auto has been classified under a six digit numerical code (for example, 8110) as indicated on the policy Declarations Page. The information on the following pages explains the components of the classification code and can help you determine how we classified your auto. We established the classification based on statements made by or on behalf of the named insured. This classification is one of the components we use in developing your premiums for the following coverages: Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability (or Single Limit Liability), Other Than Collision, and Collision. We will use code 8110 as an example in explaining how your auto is classified The 1st digit (the 8 in the example 8110) is always 8 and identifies the auto as a private passenger auto The 2nd and digits (the 11 in the example 8110) indicate the OPERATOR CLASSIFICATION. It is based on the age, gender, marital status and driver training status of the operators. "Driving record" refers to factors including but not limited to chargeable accidents, traffic convictions, and years of driving experience of you and any occasional drivers of your autos in the previous three years. Each auto on your policy has been assigned to one of the rating tiers described below. In general, a lower number tier corresponds with lower premium charges; a higher number tier corresponds with higher premium charges. Refer to the policy Declarations Page to find the rating tiers that have been assigned to your autos. The rating tier affects your premiums for the following coverages: B.I. Liability and P.D. Liability (or Single Limit Liability Coverage), Personal Injury Protection, Comprehensive and Collision. RATING TIER DEFINITIONS All driving record criteria specified in these tier definitions apply to an operator's driving record for the three-year experience period immediately preceding the application for a policy or preparation of a renewal. Tier 1 The eligibility criteria for Tier 1 are: a. The driver has been licensed to drive for at least three years; and b. The driver has had no chargeable accidents and has not been convicted of a motor vehicle violation; and c. The driver has had no major convictions as defined in this form; and d. If one or more drivers are assigned to the vehicle years and meet the eligibility criteria for Tier 1. Tier 2 (Standard Tier) The eligibility criteria for Tier 2 are: a. The driver has been licensed to drive for at least three years; and b. The driver has had no chargeable accidents and has accumulated no more than six motor vehicle points; and c.the driver has had no major convictions as defined in this form; and d. Tier 3-A The eligibility criteria for Tier 3-A is: The driver would otherwise qualify for Tier 2, but there is a driver in addition to the named insured and that driver is an inexperienced non-principal operator. An inexperienced operator is a driver who would otherwise qualify for Tier 2, but he or she has been licensed to drive less than three years. Tier 3-B The eligibility criteria for Tier 3-B is: The driver would otherwise qualify for Tier 2, but he or she is an inexperienced principal operator. An inexperienced operator is a driver who would otherwise qualify for Tier 2, but he or she has been licensed to drive less than three years. Tier 4 The eligibility criteria for Tier 4 are: a. Tier 5 The eligibility criteria for Tier 5 is: The driver does not otherwise qualify for Tiers 1-4. TIER RATING PLAN NOTES 1. If there are more autos covered on the policy than drivers covered on the policy, we will assign Standard Tier 2 to autos in excess of the number of drivers. However, if all drivers insured on the policy qualify for Tier 1, Tier 1 will apply to all autos. 2. The term "chargeable accident", as used in this form, shall mean any accident that occurred during the experience period, involving the applicant or any current resident operator, while operating an auto, which results in: a. Bodily injury or death; b. Total damage to all property including his or her own in excess of $1,000; or c. Total damage to all property including his or her own amounting to $1,000 or less, but only if there are two or more such accidents during the experience period, each of which resulted in damage to property, but has not been defined as an accident under b. above. EXCEPTIONS A chargeable accident shall not include the following: a. Accidents incurred by an operator demonstrated to be a named insured or a principal operator of an auto insured under a separate policy; and b. Accidents occurring under the following circumstances: (1) Auto lawfully parked (if the parked vehicle rolls from the parked position then any such accident is charged to the person who parked the auto); or (2) The applicant, owner or other resident operator reimbursed by, or on behalf of, a person who is responsible for the accident or has judgment against such person; or (3) Auto is struck in the rear by another vehicle and the applicant or other resident operator has not been convicted of a moving traffic violation in connection with this accident, or (4) Operator of the other auto involved in the accident was convicted of a moving traffic violation and the applicant or resident operator was not convicted of a moving traffic violation in connection with the accident; or (5) Auto operated by the applicant or any resident operator is struck by a "hit-and-run" vehicle, if the accident is reported to the proper authority within hours by the applicant or resident operator; or (6) Accidents involving damage by contact with animals or fowl; or (7) Accidents involving Physical Damage, limited to and caused by flying gravel, missiles, or falling objects; or (8) Accidents occurring when using auto in response to an emergency if the operator of the auto at the time of accident was a paid or volunteer member of any Police or Fire Department, First Aid Squad, or any law enforcement agency. This exception does not include an accident occurring after the auto ceases to be used in response to such emergency. 3. Certain minor speeding convictions and chargeable accidents are not used for the purpose of assigning your auto(s) to a higher rated tier. 4. The term "major conviction", as used in this form, means a conviction of one of the following offenses, which are NOT assigned motor vehicle points pursuant to N.J.A.C. 13:-10.1: a. Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs; b. Refusal to submit to a chemical test; c. Vehicular homicide; or d. Operating a motor vehicle while driving privilege is suspended. 5.
