A blended approach to learning Al-Futtaim operates through more than 200 companies in 35 countries across the Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia. The group represents more than 225 international brands in the automotive, retail, real estate and financial services sectors. These businesses all share a common mission: to double Al-Futtaim s size, and attract and retain the brightest people. Employees regularly receive training on new products, services and regulations. But delivering training consistently across so many countries was a challenge, as was tracking and auditing training. One reason was that training has traditionally been delivered in a classroom, but the content and quality differed between countries. Classroom instruction also requires employees to be away from their jobs and customers, which affects productivity. Al-Futtaim therefore developed a new learning strategy based on the 70-20-10 principle: 70% of learning and development would happen on the job, 20% through coaching and mentoring, and 10% in the classroom. With more emphasis on virtual training, employees could learn at their own convenience. And Al-Futtaim would be able to update its learning content more quickly to reflect changing business demands. Next, Al-Futtaim set out to find a flexible, high-quality software solution that could support the new strategy. 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. Executive overview Logical choice, premium support Al-Futtaim sought a market leader in performance and learning solutions which would also have functional depth and breadth across the full talent management suite. Its research revealed that SuccessFactors has dominant mind share in the talent management suite market. (Gartner, 2013) Scalability and adaptability were also key consi derations. After looking at various options (on-premise, cloud), we have decided to go with SuccessFactors, since it gives us the flexibility of having anytime and anywhere access and also provides a great platform for moving into talent management explains Rajit Dixit, General Manager EIT Real Estate & Corporate IT. The other key benefit of using SuccessFactors compared to other cloud services is the ease with which it can integrate with our core ERP (SAP). Finally, Al-Futtaim wanted to count on strong backing from SAP long after implementation. With SuccessFactors Learning we knew we would get premium support, adds Dipesh Mistry. SuccessFactors Learning was introduced for 9,000 employees across the MENA region. It was renamed igrow to give it a more learner-driven focus. More than 350 offerings have been entered into igrow, covering the entire 70-20-10 spectrum. The new content on how to develop your career is among the most popular modules on igrow, currently accessed by over 55% of employees across MENA. SuccessFactors Learning has also been used to align the company s leadership development curriculum with its seven leadership competences. Sponsor Colin Gow says SuccessFactors Learning highlights how SuccessFactors offers a completely new experience to employees. "It allows them to access learning and development at their fingertips. They can view, browse, enroll, discuss and take part in learning for their professional development and all this online. This is a major step forward for our staff." 4 / 6
Empowering employees to drive their careers SuccessFactors Learning has created a vibrant culture at Al-Futtaim. By providing more ways to learn (following the 70-20-10 approach), take-up rates for learning have risen. The plethora of avail - able courses sends a strong signal to employees that Al-Futtaim wants to invest in their careers and that employees are encouraged to drive their professional development. Learning is more effective because employees can learn at their own pace. New hires are productive faster because the training they receive during the onboarding phase is consistent. Associates in any location can now learn about new products and acquire new skills without leaving the office. And SuccessFactors Learning enables Al-Futtaim to quickly adapt its learning offerings when business conditions change. The Learning & Development department also streamlined its administrative processes and reduced costs due to a lower demand for trainers, materials, supplies and facility space. 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company.
