UNITWIN UNIVERSITY TWINNING & NETWORKING WHAT IS IT ABOUT? A closely knit system of cooperation in research, documentation, education and training to facilitate exchanges and knowledge-sharing among universities, decision makers, nongovernmental organizations, civil society and the private sector. A worldwide think-tank and pool of skills. 4
OBJECTIVES To contribute to the formulation of cultural tourism strategies for sustainable development, ensuring the long-term conservation of the sites, participation of local populations in the projects, facilitating the dialogue between cultures. To contribute to the sub-regional, regional and interregional co-operation between high level internationally recognized researchers and professors and the teaching and research staff of the University. 5
The visionary objectives of UNESCO (2002)-1 Building capacity of the site management: a sustainable tourism management plan Training locals in tourism-related activities, increase their participation and share in the benefits of tourism Promotion of relevant local products in a global market Raising public awareness and pride in the local communities 6
The visionary objectives of UNESCO (2002)-2 Use tourism-generated funds for conservation and protection costs, Sharing expertise with other sites and protected areas, Building knowledge about the needs to protect World Heritage, its values and its policies within the tourism industry. 7
HOW?-1 Promoting local cooperation through academic mobility, supporting training programs and exchanges, especially in the Southern countries. Constantly sharing education experiences, continuing education and applied research to improve them, also through the use of information technologies. Producing and providing education modules and tools data collecting, analyzing and processing through preparation, project management and assessment, online education 8
HOW?-2 Setting up projects with multiple partnerships. Having grades and masters created within the Network, internationally recognized and acknowledged by a brand of excellence. Frequent MEETINGS between network universities to assess its efficiency and improve it. 9
Module Tourism Management at WH Sites 10
Module Tourism Management at WH Sites The module makes part of a complete MASTER level curriculum (corresponding to 120 ECTS for two years). The module itself gives 10 ECTS, corresponding to 240 learning hours. The module is coherent in the broader frame of a MASTER degree, in which it belongs. The teaching of this module involves that the students have been previously taught the fundamental courses concerning heritage. The same number of ECTS (10) is proposed for all the universities proposing the module. The different universities are free to organize the number of teaching hours according to their own programmes. 11
