Department of Dermatology (Seoul National University Hospital) 1. Introduction Seoul National University Hospital Department of Dermatology has been proved its excellence both in clinics as well as research. Every year, more than 56,000 outpatients visit our department for various chief complaints. Our department is one of the largest dermatologic referral centers in Korea, and the number of patients is still growing. We are very proud of our specialties and outstanding abilities of diagnosis and treatment in psoriasis, occupational dermatosis, skin cancer, dermatopathology, vitiligo, bullous diseases, acne, alopecia and dermatosurgery. There are specialized clinics for laser treatment, photodynamic therapy and hair restoration surgery. With the regard of specialty, there are distinct dermatologic clinics in the Children s Hospital and in the Cancer Hospital. The tight relationship with the emergency room facilitates the one-stop system. The quality as well as quantity of the clinical trials carried out in our department for the past decades is remarkable. We have been proved the efficacies and safeties of many novel medications, biological products, and laser equipments. One of the monumental successes is the clinical trial for the evaluation of efficacy and safety of dutasteride on androgenetic alopecia. The Research Institute, IHEIB (Institute of Human-Environment Interface Biology) is another pride of our department. The harmony of dermatologists and molecular biologists have generated plenty of valuable achievements in the field of skin aging, hair biology and pigmented disorders. Many foreign doctors and medical students have visited our department. We offer diverse experiences and learning opportunities for visiting scholars. The coursework includes observation of outpatient clinic, dermatosurgery, rounds for inpatients and participation for morning conferences. The SNUH department of dermatology would be the best option for any dermatologists and scientists who are interested in dermatoses in Asian population as well as basic skin research.
2. Short-term visiting fellowship program As the Dermatologic Fellow, you would be able to participate as a sub-investigator or researcher for clinical trials, assisting dermatologic procedures including surgery, and observing patients in our clinics. Through our outpatient and dermatologic surgery clinic, you can experience not only basic management of skin diseases but also surgical management of skin cancer. You also have the opportunity to work on research and animal experiments in our Biomedical Research Institute. Therefore, the trainee is expected to have fundamental principles and various experiences in all aspects of dermatology with this program. 1) Duration : There are 2 weeks and 4 weeks program courses, which are basically similar in contents; however more chances will be available in 4 weeks program including outpatient clinic, conferences, and in-depth discussion on issues of skin cancer. 2) Accommodations : Accommodations can be made in the dormitory located inside the hospital compounds. Nearby accommodation at 10 minutes of distant on walk are another option by trainees will or when the dormitory is not available.
3) Educational contents 1 Outpatient Clinics : 27 adult clinics, 10 pediatric clinics, 5 special clinics, 5 cancer center clinics, 1 international clinic, 1 telemedicine clinic A. Adults outpatient clinics (27 regular sessions, 5 cancer center clinics) Regular outpatient clinics: Psoriasis, eczematous diseases, cutaneous tumors, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, bullous diseases, autoimmune diseases, acne and periappendageal diseases, alopecia, hair diseases, infectious skin diseases etc. Various common dermatologic disease in adult. Cancer center clinic: skin cancer, dermatologic symptoms due to paraneoplastic syndrome, dermatologic side effect of oncologic treatment B.
