Veritas Backup Exec Software The NAS server builds in backup software for data protection and also supports commercial tape software. That mean you can backup data which stored on NAStorage server by build_in software (Backup and Restore function) or use commercial tape software. Backup Exec is a data management solution for Windows server network. With its client/server design, Backup Exec provides fast, reliable backup and restore capabilities for servers and workstation across the network. Backup are crucial for data protection, and Backup Exec offers you many choices for create/ restore jobs to protect your data. This document will explain how to backup data with NAStorage and Veritas Backup Exec and create two simple examples as below. 1. Backup data which stored on NAStorage server onto Veritas Backup server Tape device. 2. Backup Server s data onto NAStorage server. Tape Drive VERITAS Backup Exec Server NAStorage Server
1. Backup data which stored on NAStorage server onto Veritas Backup server Tape drive. If the NAStorage server as file server on your network, backup are crucial for data protection. In this solution, you can backup the data which stored NAStorage onto Backup server s tape device via Veritas Backup Exec software. Request Backup Tape Drive NAStorage Server VERITAS Backup Exec Server To backup data, do the following: 1. Setting Logon Account Management Go to Network -> Logon Accounts In this example, we will use domain\administrator as default logon account. 2. Setting share permission for the NAStorage server share via
NAStorage server admin page. (Base on which one you want to backup data onto backup server s tape device) Go to-security->share->share permission Setting the permission for this share, let the domain\administrator user have enough permission to access this share via network. 3. Enable selection of user shares. Go to tools->options->job Defaults->Network You need enable this option for access NAStorage server share. 4. Creating the backup job
On the navigation bar->click Backup From the backup selection pane, select the data which stored in NAStorage server to backup. Please note: NAStorage server can t install Veritas Backup Exec Remote Agent, therefore it will prompt a message when you click the NAStorage server share. On the Properties pane->destination->click Device and Media Select the tape device to backup data. You can select additional configuration options for your backup job before
selecting to run or submit the job. Run the Job->Click Run Now or under Frequency-> Click Schedule If you want to run the job now, click Run Now. Otherwise, click Schedule to set the scheduling option you want to use, and the click Submit. 5. Viewing completed jobs On the navigation bar->click Job Monitor You can view the completed job from Job History pane. Please note: The job status is Completed with exceptions, this result only one
thing different with Successful, the different is Veritas Backup Exec can t initialize Remote Agent for NAStorage server therefore it will complete this job but the job status will report Completed with exceptions. (Because NAStorage server didn t support the Remote Agent install.) This result already backup data which stored in NAStorage server onto Backp server tape device successfully, and the data also be verify during the backup job.
2. Backup Server s data onto NAStorage server. In this kind application, you want backup the server s data (local PC) onto NAStorage server, Veritas Backup Exec offers a feature called Backup-to-Disk, which allow you to backup data to a folder on a hard disk instead of to a tape device, for this reason you can map share from NAStorage server as Backup-to-Disk Folders for data management solution. Request Backup VERITAS Backup Exec Server NAStorage Server To backup data, do the following: 1.
