Introduction Cengage Learning offers SAM course integration within an institution s Desire to Learn (D2L). Instructors can create a course on D2L and integrate a SAM course as well as add direct links to homework assignments and chapters. Cengage LMS Integration offers: Seamless User Experience Both instructors and students access SAM using LMS login credentials Instructors link a D2L Account with a Cengage Instructor Account on the first cross over (this is a one-time event) Students are never prompted to create a CengageBrain account Content Customization with Deep Linking Customize a course to include direct links to specific activities Automatic Grade Return Audience Selected activities are automatically synched with the LMS gradebook This document is designed for ITS, DSC, and instructors. Creating a Course in D2L This section explains how to create a SAM course in a D2L course. Instructors can add the link to SAM into an existing course module if there is one. If the D2L course contains modules, instructors can skip to Create an Integrated SAM Course. Create a Module This section shows instructors how to create modules: NOTE: Instructors need a D2L course and template before doing this procedure. Step 1 In the home section of D2L, click the course to create a module in. Result: The Introduction to Biology course page displays. Page 3
Step 2 Navigate to the Course Builder. NOTE: The Course Builder can also be accessed from the Edit Course Menu. 3 Select Create a module. Result: The Select a location page displays. Page 4
Step 4 Select the location to add the module. Result: The Create Module page displays. 5 Enter the data in the required fields. Click Create. Page 5
Step 5 (cont.) Result: The module displays in the course. Create an Integrated SAM Course These instructions are for creating a course using the Create a new SAM/Cengage course option. NOTE: Instructors create a SAM course before integrating it with their D2L course. This section explains how to create a course level link to SAM into a D2L course module. Step 1 Click and drag New Cengage Learning MindLinks to the module. Result: A login page displays. Page 6
Step 2 Log in to the Cengage Faculty Account or click Create an Account. Instructors only login once. NOTE: Instructors only do this on the first login. Result: A confirmation page displays. Instructors redirect to the Select Content Source page. Page 7
Step 3 Select Content Source. NOTE: Cengage recommends instructors search by author. Result: The Create Course in Cengage/SAM page displays. Page 8
Step 4 There are three options: Create a new Cengage/SAM course: Instructors use this option if the instructor has never used SAM before Copy one of my existing Cengage/SAM courses: This option provides a list of courses that is based on the same product and linked to the instructor s Cengage Instructor Account. Copy a colleague s existing Cengage/SAM course: Instructors need the course key to copy. Select Create a new Cengage/SAM course. Result: Additional fields display. Page 9
Step 5 Enter Course information. Click Continue. Result: The Link to Cengage/SAM course page displays. 6 Click Continue. Page 10

Content Customization and Deep Linking in D2L Instructors can add content to a D2L course through customization and Deep Linking. Access the Content Selector Follow the instructions in the table below to add deep links to a D2L course using the content selector: NOTES: Instructors don t need to add deep links to modules although it helps with organization. Instructors can add modules from the Build Content tab. Instructors need to set up assignments in SAM before Deep Linking. Step 1 Click and drag New Cengage Learning MindLinks to the module. Result: The Content Selector displays. Page 14
Step 2 Select Content Source. NOTE: Courses previously linked display at the top of the list. Result: The Select Content page displays. Page 15
Add Links to Specific Learning Activities Instructors may add MindLinks to Learning Activities directly to a D2L course and/or to folders within the D2L course. NOTE: The advantage of adding MindLinks directly to a D2L course is that it enables a student to click a chapter or assignment link to navigate to that chapter or assignment within SAM, instead of needing to navigate to it within the SAM course. Step 1 Select the Mindlinks to add to the course. IMPORTANT: To sync assignments to the LMS Gradebook instructors should select ADD TO GRADEBOOK. 2 Click Confirm Selections. Result: The Confirm Your Selections overlay displays. 3 Click Save. Page 16

Adding a Technical Support Link into an Integrated Course This section explains how instructors add the Cengage Technical Support Link to D2L: Step 1 Click and drag New Cengage Learning MindLinks to the module. Result: A login page displays. 2 Select Content Source. NOTE: Courses previously linked display at the top of the list. Result: The Select Content page displays. Page 18
