CO M M O N A P P L I C AT I O N G U I D E L I N E S Emory College and Oxford College At Emory University you ll find two distinct choices for your first two years of undergraduate education. You can choose to apply to Emory College, the four-year undergraduate division in Atlanta, or you can apply to Oxford College, and spend your first two years at Emory s original campus in Oxford, Georgia. All Oxford students automatically continue as juniors to Emory s main campus in Atlanta. We strongly encourage you to consider applying to both campuses, and have made it easy to do so as you will need to complete just one application. Students who apply to both Oxford College and Emory College will have their application reviewed independently and will receive an independent decision from each school. INSTRUCTIONS Emory University exclusively accepts the Common Application. The application for admission can be found on the Common Application website: www.commonapp.org. To complete your admission file, the Emory University Office of Undergraduate Admission will need the following: Common Application Questions and Writing Supplement Section of the Emory University My College tab of the Common Application A $75 application fee or Common Application fee waiver Official high school transcripts Official college transcripts, if applicable Official scores from the SAT and/or the ACT; if English is your second language, it is highly recommended that you submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS Secondary school report/counselor s recommendation Two teacher letters of recommendation C O N T A C T I N F O R M AT I O N Emory College of Arts and Sciences 404.727.6036 admission@emory.edu www.emory.edu/admission 1 e m o r y u n i v e r s i t y Oxford College 770.784.8328 oxadmission@emory.edu www.emory.edu/oxford If you are mailing any application materials please send to the address below. Completing the Common Application First Year Applicants Visit www.commonapp.org to create your account and begin working on your Common Application. Emory University exclusively uses the Common Application, whether applying to Emory College, Oxford College, or both. After selecting and adding Emory University from the College Search tab, you will be able to begin work on the Emory University-specific Questions and Writing Supplements under your My Colleges tab. STUDENT STATUS AND ADMISSION PLANS Under the Questions section for Emory University on your My Colleges tab, you will be asked a series of questions to determine which colleges and admission plans you are applying for. If you want your application to be considered for both Emory College and Oxford College then select Both Colleges First Year for Student Status. If you want your application to be considered just for Emory College then select Emory College First Year for Student Status. If you want your application to be considered just for Oxford College then select Oxford College First Year for Student Status. Next you will need to select the Preferred Admission Plan (Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision) associated with the Student Status you selected. Do note that if your selected Student Status is Both Colleges, then the admission plan you choose will be associated with both your Emory College and Oxford College application review. considered for Regular Decision for the other college that you did not select under Student Status. APPLYING FOR THE EMORY UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS PROGRAM If you would like to apply for the Emory University Scholars Program, with a November 15 deadline, you will need to select that option when answering the following question: Separate from need-based financial aid, which of the following programs are you interested in pursuing to help fund your education at Emory University? Selecting the Emory University Scholars Program option, requires you to submit all application materials by the November 15 deadline and complete the additional Scholars essay under the Writing Supplement section. Please note there is a different process for applicants who would like to be considered for separate admission plans when applying to both Emory College and Oxford College. This option is for students who want to be considered as an Early Decision applicant for one of the colleges and a Regular Decision applicant for the other. Do not select the Both Colleges option under Student Status; instead select the college you plan on applying to as an Early Decision applicant. For Preferred Admission Plan, select either Early Decision I or Early Decision II. You will then need to answer Yes to the following question: If you are applying under an Early Decision plan to a single College, would you also like your application to be considered under Regular Decision for the other College? By answering yes to this question and completing the other questions as explained above, your application will be 2 emory university

Additional Steps and Writing Supplement Once you have completed the Questions section for Emory University, you will need to Assign Recommenders. Remember, Emory requires a letter of recommendation from your high school guidance counselor and two high school teachers. You will also need to complete both of the short-answer essay prompts as part of the Emory Writing Supplement. The responses to these questions are intended to be short 250 words or less so make sure you get right to the point in your work. Question #1: Undergraduates at Emory and Oxford Colleges are offered countless opportunities to engage with the student body, the faculty, and your academic program of choice from hands-on research to student organizations to volunteering. What are some of the programs and/or activities you would plan to get involved with on either campus, and what unique qualities will you bring to them? Question #2: Imagine you are a professor, charged with teaching a new course. Emory University offers over 1,000 courses in a wide range of academics subjects. You are free to choose whatever academic subject you want. What class would you create? What would you hope students would leave your class having learned? (Don t forget to include your class title!) Whether applying to Emory College, Oxford College, or both colleges, there is only one $75 application fee required. The application fee must be paid online through the Common Application. Students who feel they qualify for a fee waiver can certify so in the Common Application Profile fee waiver section. Please submit your transcripts and recommendations online if possible, or have these items mailed by your school in one package to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. You need only submit supporting documents once, no matter if you are applying to both Emory College and Oxford College. IMPORTANT NOTES Students who apply to both Oxford College and Emory College will have their application reviewed independently and will receive an independent decision from each school. If you have already submitted the Common Application to only Emory College or Oxford College, you may later decide you would like to be considered for admission to the other college. In order to be considered for admission to that other school, you must send an email to admission@emory.edu requesting your application be added. A student s application will not be complete and will not be processed until the Common Application, Questions and Writing Supplement sections of the Emory University My College tab, and application fee (or fee waiver) have been submitted. Applicants may check the status of their application materials at www.opus.emory.edu once these items have been submitted and processed. 3 emory university
