Allscripts MyWay 8.6 System Environment Specifications Network, PC, Peripheral & Server Requirements NETWORK REQUIREMENTS An Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network is required between Allscripts MyWay clients and on-premise servers or the Allscripts Data Centers. Bandwidth Requirements Client to Server Technology For users connecting to the Allscripts Data Centers, a business-class broadband service is a minimum requirement. The requirement is for sustained bandwidth, not peak capacity. Needed bandwidth is dependent on the peak number of concurrent users of the solution. This includes all users, not just Providers. Minimum bandwidth requirements presented in this publication take into account the shared nature of network access. Not all users are active on the network at exactly the same time, which permits individual users to briefly consume more bandwidth as needed. The efficiency of shared bandwidth diminishes as the total offered load approaches capacity of the network. Bandwidth numbers are representative of actual testing of Allscripts MyWay. They do not take into account other non-allscripts applications. These numbers do not represent bandwidth for the Allscripts MyWay deployment updates. Table 1 Total Users Minimum Bandwidth (Kbps) Maximum Latency (ms) Line Description 1-4 512 60 Business Cable/DSL 1 5-10 640 60 Business Cable/DSL 1 11-20 768 60 Business Cable/DSL 1 21-40 1544 (T1) 60 For more than 40 users, you will need a leased line 2 with an available bandwidth of 40 Kbps per user. 1 Business class cable, asymmetrical, maximum latency 60ms, Allscripts MyWay and normal Internet usage share a line (75% to Allscripts MyWay) 2 Leased line (e.g. frame relay), asymmetrical, maximum latency 60ms, leased line is dedicated to Allscripts MyWay traffic 1
Bandwidth Requirements Thin Client Technology Thin client computing (Citrix or RDP) generally provides smoother network performance and a more consistent user experience with shared bandwidth. Allscripts recommends thin client technology for implementations serving many users, especially over relatively slow remote connections. Internet Explorer Modifications Turn OFF pop-up blockers in Internet Explorer. Remove all extra Button Bars and/or search engines. Each of these will potentially have its own pop-up blocker. Do not just inactivate, uninstall them through control panel. Clear all temporary internet files, and reduce the hard disk space for these files to the minimum, 8MB. Note: Some files do not clear through this method, if possible navigate to the temp directories and manually delete files. Cookies Clear cookies and reduce time stored, clear on exit if available. Set the Check for updates to web pages option to either Never or When visit page. History, change to 1 day or 0 if allowed. Virus Protection Virus protection software can negatively affect performance, and may shut down Allscripts MyWay. We do not support any particular virus protection but Allscripts does not recommend using Avast!. Note: The list of virus protection not recommended may grow with time. Check Windows services and verify the virus protection does not use any form of Real Time Scan. This can and will cause time out errors if Allscripts MyWay does not receive or write the information within the set time limits. Windows Vista & Windows 7 Operating System Verify if there are multiple Allscripts MyWay applications in Programs and Features (Example: Allscripts MyWay - 1). Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Programs & Features. Note: If more than one Allscripts MyWay appears or the icon on the desktop is not the Allscripts MyWay logo, uninstall and reinstall Allscripts MyWay. Click Apply, then click OK. Internet Explorer 8 The following information is from Knowledge Base article 7909 and intended for situations where Internet Explorer 8 cannot be downgraded to Internet Explorer 7. This mainly involves Windows 7 systems as Internet Explorer 8 is the native web browser and cannot be downgraded. Resolving Reports and Printing Performance Issues Allscripts MyWay and Internet Explorer 8 Printing Issues 11
Internet Explorer 8 was a major upgrade providing stronger security controls for ActiveX and other vulnerable features of Internet Explorer. Allscripts MyWay uses an ActiveX control to open the Microsoft Report Viewer. The default security settings in Internet Explorer 8 appear to block these controls. When this happens, you may experience issues printing when using Allscripts MyWay and Internet Explorer 8. Symptoms include application freeze or a delay generating a report. Uninstalling IE8 and reverting back to IE7 resolves almost all of the IE8 issues, but in many cases, uninstalling is not an option. This includes PCs with Windows 7, Windows XP SP3 after upgrading to IE8, or using a PC without administrative rights. Note that an issue case was created by Allscripts Development (MWDEF-363 or ARTF320318) regarding this issue. The following procedure can assist with the printing issues. 1. Find the DNS address or IP to the database application server. 2. Open Internet Explorer 8 and access Tools > Internet Options. 3. On the Security tab, click Trusted Sites, then click Sites. 4. Clear the Require server verification check box (no check mark). 5. Add the database application server to the trusted site list. E.G. mmw1700001.misysmyway.com or W1700001-1 6. Set Security to Low for Trusted Sites If the level is set to Custom, click on the Default Level button, then change the security to Low. 7. Close Internet Explorer and Allscripts MyWay, then reopen the applications. 8. Verify performance improvement by viewing and printing a report. Other System Configurations Ping Test for Hosted Clients 1. Open a CMD prompt on your PC (Start > Run > CMD), 2. Type ping 69.166.142.4 and press Enter. The time entry should be in the 40-60 range to have the best performance if it s over 90 it can be causing serious issues. Windows Run Command To add the Run command back to the Start menu (Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems): Right Click Start > Properties > Classic Start Menu option > Apply > Ok Or 1. Click Start > Control Panel. 2. Click Appearance and Personalization, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu. 3. On the Start Menu tab click Customize. 4. In the list of Start menu options, select the Run command check box, and then click OK. The Run command appears on the right side of the Start menu. Remote Settings 12
