Upgrading Your PhoneTree Software For PhoneTree 2100/2500/3500, VoiceWave Series, Patient/Dental/Veterinary Messaging, and HealthWave models upgrading from 6.12.80 or older to 6.13 or newer Question: How do I install the software upgrade I ve just purchased? Answer: To properly upgrade your PhoneTree software to the latest version, you will need to first uninstall your current version, backup your files, and then reinstall using the new Installation CD. Please note: If you are upgrading from a PhoneTree Plus system, please contact Customer Support for assistance. 1. Uninstall the PhoneTree System a. Windows XP users: Open your computer s Control Panel (usually accessible from your Start menu). Choose Add/Remove Programs. From the list, select PhoneTree, and then click the Remove button. Windows Vista / Windows 7 users: Open your computer s Control Panel (usually accessible from your Start menu). Choose Programs > Uninstall a Program. From the list, select PhoneTree, and then click Uninstall from the top of the screen. b. You will now be asked if you are sure you wish to remove PhoneTree from your computer. Click Yes. Note: All calling lists, recordings and other settings will be retained and will be accessible from the new software after it is has been installed. Windows will now begin uninstalling the PhoneTree software. Once removed, PhoneTree will no longer appear in the list of programs. Click the red Cancel box in the upper right corner to exit from the Control Panel. c. (Hardware-based systems only) Disconnect the power adapter from the back of the PhoneTree hardware, making sure the green power light turns off. page 1 of 5 Revised 03/2011
2. Backup PhoneTree Files a. Create a folder on your desktop (right-click anywhere on the desktop and select New > Folder) and name it Backup. You will place your back up files here in the following steps. b. Browse to and open the MVP1 folder ( C:\Program Files\PhoneTreeMVPu\User\MVP1 or C:\Program Files (x86)\phone- TreeMVPu\User\MVP1 ). Using your keyboard, hold down the Ctrl key and left-click with your mouse to select the following folders and fi les until all are selected: all numeric folders (e.g., 000, 001, 002) DIALDIR.BIN DIALDIR.MDB After the folders and fi les have been selected, right-click with your mouse on the selected items and select Copy from the sub-menu that appears. c. Open the Backup folder you created in step 2a and anywhere in the blank area of the folder screen, right-click with your mouse and select Paste from the sub-menu (if Paste isn t selectable, repeat step 2b). The files and folders you copied from the MVP1 folder should now appear in the Backup folder. d. Browse to C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the entire PhoneTreeMVPu folder (right-click on the folder and select Delete). A screen will appear: Are you sure you want to remove the folder PhoneTreeMVPu and move all its contents to the Recycle Bin? Click Yes. page 2 of 5
3. Installing the New Software Note: If your computer is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, refer to the Installing on Windows Vista or Windows 7 PDF for this step. a. Insert the Installation CD into your CD/DVD drive. The installer should start automatically (if it does not, double-click on the CD/DVD drive PhoneTreeMVPu Setup). Follow the on screen instructions to complete installation. b. When prompted, enter the Serial Key and click Next to continue the installation. Once the installation completes, click Finish. c. (Hardware-based systems only. Hosted users proceed to step 5) Reconnect the power adapter to the PhoneTree hardware. page 3 of 5
4. Installing the PhoneTree Drivers (Windows XP) Note: If your computer is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, please proceed to step 5. a. Microsoft Windows will now want to reinstall the PhoneTree hardware drivers. When the Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears, choose No, not this time and click Next. On the following screen, choose Install the software automatically (Recommended), and then click Next. b. When prompted, click Continue Anyway to continue installation. You will be prompted to do this several times until the installation is complete. c. Once a driver has been installed, a confirmation screen like the one at right will appear. Click Finish. Repeat the previous steps until the Your new hardware is installed and ready to use message is displayed. page 4 of 5
5. Restoring Backed Up PhoneTree Files a. Open the Backup folder from step 2a and copy the folders and files you stored here earlier. Next, browse to and open the MVP1 folder ( C:\Program Files\PhoneTreeMVPu\User\MVP1 or C:\Program Files (x86)\phonetreemvpu\user\mvp1 ). Now paste your copied files from the Backup folder here. A message will appear informing you these folders and files already exist. Click Yes to All. If you re running Windows Vista or Windows 7, click Copy and Replace for each occurrence. This action will restore the settings from your previous PhoneTree installation. Your PhoneTree system is now ready to use.
