1 Voyager-L Mailing List The Voyager L list serv provides a forum for sharing tips, comments and questions about the Voyager system. The list is provided for the use of Ex Libris customers. Although it is not moderated and Ex Libris does not control the content of the list, it is monitored by Ex Libris staff members who will contribute to the list on occasion. The list has proven to be a very valuable resource for many users. Ex Libris requires subscribers to subscribe from institutional e mail accounts to help validate that all subscribers are from current licensee institutions. The list is co managed by members of the ELUNA (http://el una.org/product groups/voyager/) and IGeLU (http://igelu.org/product working groups/voyager) Voyager Product Working Groups. The mailing list for Voyager users, ʺVoyager L,ʺ is hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Subscribing to Voyager-L or Voyager-L Digest The ʺtraditionalʺ mailing list for Voyager users is called ʺVoyager L.ʺ Subscribers to this list send messages to the list s address, and the list management software quickly distributes that message to all other subscribers on the list. This is done message by message. If twenty (20) messages are sent to Voyager L, then subscribers on Voyager L will each receive twenty (20) messages in their mail boxes. Use the instructions below to subscribe to Voyager L. ʺVoyager L Digestʺ is a ʺnon traditionalʺ list called a ʺdigestʺ. As mail is sent to the Voyager L list, it is also sent to the ʺdigester.ʺ The digester s job is to accumulate messages until it has enough to package together, and release as a single digest message. That is, if twenty (20) messages are sent to Voyager L, then the digester will accumulate them until there are enough to create a digest message, and one (1) large e mail message will be sent out to the subscribers of Voyager L Digest. 4

Some people prefer the digest approach, as it reduces the daily traffic on their e mail boxes. Others prefer the real time aspect of Voyager L. It is truly a personal preference which list to belong to. Subscribing to Voyager-L Use the instructions given below to subscribe to, use and unsubscribe from Voyager L. Note that there is a common error some new users make when trying to subscribe or unsubscribe. This happens when users send subscription requests to the entire list instead of listserv@listserv.nd.edu as explained below. Please check carefully to ensure that you are sending subscription instructions to listserv@listserv.nd.edu and not the general ʺPostingʺ list address. On the ʺMail To:ʺ line, type the following address: listserv@listserv.nd.edu Leave the ʺCC:ʺ and ʺSubject:ʺ lines blank. Tab to the body of your e mail client where you usually type an e mail message. The message must read: sub VOYAGER-L (note the hyphen and letter el ʺLʺ). Managing Your Subscription You can manage your subscriptions options via the Subscriberʹs Corner through the web interface or via email. You can get to Subscriber s Corner at the following address: https://listserv.nd.edu/cgibin/wa?logon. If this is your first visit, you ll need to establish a new listserv password at https://listserv.nd.edu/cgi bin/wa?getpw1. Use the email address you subscribe to VOYAGER L with, and set the password to whatever you would like. You can visit the same URL to manage your subscription options or to search the list archives. To set your subscription to digest mode via email, on the Mail To: line, type the following address: listserv@listserv.nd.edu Leave the ʺCC:ʺ and ʺSubject:ʺ lines blank. Tab to the body of your e mail client where you usually type an e mail message. The message must read: SET VOYAGER-L DIGEST (note the hyphen and letter el ʺLʺ). 5

You can also use this command to: SET VOYAGER-L NOMAIL (suspend messages) SET VOYAGER-L MAIL (receive messages) SET VOYAGER-L REP (get copies of your own messages) SET VOYAGER-L ACK (sends acknowledgements for postings) SET VOYAGER-L HTML or SET VOYAGER-L NOHTML (preferences for receiving HTML or plain ASCII messages/digests) A reference card for all of the LISTSERV email commands can be found at: http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/15.5/htmlhelp/list%20subscribers/commandreferencecard.8.1.h tml Posting Messages to the Mailing List If you wish to make a posting to the list, send an e mail to: voyager l@listserv.nd.edu You should fill the ʺSubject:ʺ line with a short description of your message. Tab to the body section of your e mail client and type your message as you would any other e mail. Remember that everyone on the list will see messages sent to this address! When you finish composing your message, send the message just as you would any other e mail. Remember, also, that if you wish to reply directly to the sender of the message and not to the whole list, you should reply to the sender only, not all recipients. Unsubscribing (Removing Yourself from Voyager-L) On the ʺMail To:ʺ line, type the following address: listserv@listserv.nd.edu Leave the ʺCC:ʺ and ʺSubject:ʺ lines blank. 6

Tab to the body section of your e mail client (where you usually type your e mail messages). The message must read: UNSUB VOYAGER-L (note the hyphen and letter el ʺLʺ). Alternately, you can send the message SIGNOFF VOYAGER-L. Either one will work. You may also use Subscriber s Corner to remove yourself from the list serv. See the login information above under Managing Your Subscription. Searching the Voyager-L Archives The historical Voyager L Archives can be found at http://voyager.ship.edu/voyagerl/. If this is your first visit, you will be asked to enter your e mail address and the current password, poplar. In the future, the historical archives will be merged with the current list archives. When that happens, the current list archives (see below) will contain the contents of both archives. The current Voyager L Archives can be found at https://listserv.nd.edu/cgibin/wa?a0=voyager L. The list archives are restricted to current list subscribers. To access the archives, first establish a new listserv password at https://listserv.nd.edu/cgibin/wa?getpw1. Use the email address you subscribe to VOYAGER L with, and set the password to whatever you would like. Messages are automatically archived into monthly archives, weekly if it is particularly active. Subscribers can search the entire archive with keyword, date range and author searching. Questions If you have any questions, please feel free to e mail the list administrators at VOYAGER REQUEST L@listserv.nd.edu. 7
