Overview This PowerPoint presentation presents the general overview of the new SoftLab system and its impacts on Lancaster General.

Enhancing patient care with Laboratory Technology Laboratory Information System

Why a New Lab System? The current Laboratory Information System (LIS), Cerner Classic, is 20 years old and is approaching end-of-life support in 2010. Lancaster General Laboratory looked for a system with improved efficiencies utilizing the latest technology and with the ability to integrate with other systems and found this in SCC SoftLab.

New Laboratory Information System Vendor

Who is SCC Soft? SCC Soft Computer has been a leading laboratory information systems (LIS) vendor since 1979. Company Mission SCC Soft Computer is a supplier of comprehensive laboratory and clinical information systems for the healthcare industry. We are committed to combining the most effective technologies, innovative designs, and production methodologies to create cost effective solutions that enhance the productivity and competitiveness of our clients

Why SCC SoftLab Softlab has an integrated Blood Donor System, which Cerner Classic did not. The Integrated Anatomic Pathology System includes digital images voice to data Small privately held company exhibiting excellent customer service SCC specializes in Laboratory Systems

Advantages of SoftLab SoftLab is Windows based application expanding user capabilities for searches/reviews of orders and results SCC Soft provides an on-line issue tracking system (TMS) with a quick response time for operational issues SoftLab is known for ease in interfacing and integrating many disparate systems SoftLab security is role based access which is required for HIPAA compliance

Advantages of SoftLab (cont) SoftLab provides quantifiable improvements in workflow efficiency and cost-per-test reductions in a wide variety of clinical laboratory environments. SoftLab provides a powerful rules-based system (RBS) for immediate patient results to the physician in exactly the manner requested by the physician. This has been extremely beneficial in improving clinical outcomes and patient care

Building and Testing The LG Lab Team has built and tested 4000+ orderable and resultable lab procedures over the past year. Each lab test has been tested and retested to insure that information is correct for patient care. The system functionality as well as integration with lab testing equipment has been rigorously tested to insure correct results.

The system was built in collaboration with the following: Physician Advisory group Nursing Task Force Practice Manager s Focus Group LIS steering committee Laboratory build team & SuperUsers Information Services I&O EMR

There are approximately 15 interfaces for go-live and more planned for the future.

Changes with SoftLab The Lab system is now called SOFT The format of patient reports (Cumulative/Trended) will change. No more Greens or Brown, however there will be cumulative and trended reports printed to replace them. The results will show as individual results instead of documents for Micro, ABG and other tests The result screen in SMS (Siemens) for Micro, ABG, and others will change The orders screen in SMS (Siemens) for Microbiology will require a source field to be completed.

Impacts for Nursing New report formats greens and browns go away to be replaced by Trended and Cumulative Faster turnaround time Lab phlebotomists will use hand-held devices to ID patients Orders received on devices real-time

Impacts for Physicians Quicker turnaround times New report formats cumulative and trended will replace green and brown Communication options e-mail Results faxed to physician offices as they post

When is SoftLab coming? Design and Build are Complete Testing is in final stages The conversion to SoftLab is planned for February 2009 final date to be determined

What happens at Go-Live On-site support LIS Team, Build Teams, IS Team, SCC Soft Team A Hot-Line number will be available Documentation for the changes to reports will be available on the floors for physicians

Next Steps Training PowerPoint presentations of the changes for Orders and Results will be posted to the Intranet in January. Preparation for Go-Live is on going Estimated date for Go-Live February
